  1. While I liked Burt and Jerry Reed, Jacky Gleason made that movie.
  2. Welding on races in AL hubs won't hurt a thing. While AL does melt a much lower temp than steel, the AL hub just works as a very big heat sink and you could get the race red hot and it wouldn't hurt the hub.
  3. I've got a RD822 with a 12 speed and I'm getting ready to install a Spicer 1241, 4 speed auxiliary. I don't recall the rear end ratio but it's low and the truck tops out around 60 mph right now. What I'm wondering is if I can run the truck safely in 12th gear on the main box and OD on the auxiliary? I'm worried it would spin the rears too fast. I'm mainly installing the auxiliary for the lower gears but the double OD would be nice out on the highway,
  4. I've got my class A but still tag all my "play" trucks farm use. In TN, that's about the only way you can haul anything without getting commercial tags. You can tag them with antique plates but you can't haul anything with them and only drive on weekends and special events.
  5. In TN, you can put farm tags on it and drive it without CDL. Only restriction is you have to stay within 150 miles of home.
  6. The GOP has two options, get behind Trump or die. It's insane to think that they can nominate anybody else and the Trump supporters will just say "oh well, I guess we are stupid and the GOP knows much better than we do". Why a party would rather commit sucide than let the republican front runner win is beyond me.
  7. Send your VIN to the Mack Museum. They wil send you all the info on the truck they have, including any literature free of charge. They do ask for donations though and I'd suggest a sizable one.
  8. I think the "eagle claw" is just a heavier setup. My RD822 with 65K beam suspension has the "eagle claw".
  9. I had a '85 R that had a Mack 10 speed in it. It started giving trouble so I put a 12 speed out of a Superliner in it. I ended up having to raise the back of the cab 1" to get the 12 speed to fit. I don't know why this was unless it had something to do with the trans coming out of a Superliner.
  10. Been there, done that. Usually the treadle is a real pain to change and then you find out that wasn't the problem. I don't recall what the solution was but you have another valve sticking somewhere causing it to back feed through the treadle valve.
  11. I have read that the synthetic blends are no better than straight oil. The article said either go full synthetic or stick with regular oil, don't waste your money on blends. I have no idea how true this is but it was in a article I read.
  12. I don't know if this is your problem but my electric gauges in my RD822 would work sometimes and sometimes wouldn't. Come to find out it was the main solenoid behind the dash that was sometimes loosing connection. I found a make and model number on a tag on the solenoid. Come to find out the solenoid's main application is in HVAC systems. Ended up ordering one off Amazon for a fraction of the cost of one from Mack.
  13. I'll be the first one to say that Obama's dealing with the military has been disastrous. Active military personnel shouldn't be badmouthing the president though. I have no disagreement with Obama canning military officers that are publicly badmouthing him. It has to do with the chain of command and like it or not he is the commander in chief. I don't think we've won a war since WWII. We never have really fought to win since then.
  14. Well that could turn into a real mess if that happened, possibly all out civil war. They would have no legal basis to not follow orders though if Trump is elected in a legal fashion.
  15. I guess those full fenders work out ok on a play truck but I can't figure out how to mount a set on a camelback that sees off-road and keep them from getting torn off. I'd like to put a set on my RD but if you mount them low enough to stay out of the trailer, the tires will get into them during articulation. Unless y'all know something I don't.
  16. When the housing bubble busted, I never understood all the people just walking away from their houses. Most had jobs and could afford the payment but they owed more than their house was worth so they just walked away. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I wish somebody would give me a rational explanation on why this would be a good idea. I don't know what my place is worth right now or back then. If you aren't trying to sell, does it really matter?
  17. I don't know why the government is in the business of loaning money anyway. I know they don't actually loan the money but they back the loan. This is just the symptom of the big problem and the reason Bernie is doing so well in the polls. I think we may have passed a point we can't recover from. It's partly our fault for ever letting it get this far and raising kids that think everything should be "free". Notice I put "free" in quotes because my teachers taught me that there is no such thing as a free lunch.
  18. From the way you calculate HP, the max HP will always be at max RPM. Max torque will usually be at the lower RPM range. I doubt anybody is going to notice 2 HP either way.
  19. If you ask me, this stinks to high heaven. While people should be forced to repay their debt, kicking in doors does seem a little extreme. I can't go kick the door in of people that owe me money (as much as I'd like to). I wouldn't doubt if this is a underhanded way for Obama to make the public cry about student loans so they can make college "free". If so, these protest are going just the way he wants. He's been doing the same thing for illegals for some time now. Deportations are up just to make them cry for legal status.
  20. Does anybody know how to time everything when putting it back together? I took it apart Friday and noticed some marks on the gears but didn't think anything of it. Talked to a guy yesterday and he said the gears have to be timed during assembly. He said he put one together one time without timing it and it roared like crazy, he ended up taking it to a trans shop to fix it. I don't really see what there is time unless it has something to do with balance or something.
  21. I've got a RD822 and the hood on it isn't like the rest of the RD trucks and isn't like a DM either, it's kind of like it's a mix regular RD and DM hood. Did they ever make a RD800 with fiberglass hood?
  22. Well I need a mainshaft. Bearing went down where the main shaft and input shaft go together and it ate the bearing surface on the mainshaft. With a little searching I was able to find a mainshaft for $500. I don't think that is too bad.
  23. The trans is a air shift. The model tag doesn't have a P though. Could be somebody swapped the top cover to air shift at one point. From my research, only difference in the air and manual is the top cover.
  24. Probably on a slow boat to China.
  25. I wonder if it's retroactive or if vehicles before the ruling would be grandfathered?
