Al, when we painted my 85R in 2008, there was a few spots around the rockers that rusted through.Not bad though. The doors were not galvanized though. The doors had rust right through around the mirrors and the bottom. The galvanizing definitely helped in my opinion.

This is out of a Mack maintenance and lubrication handbook from 1986. I use 15w40 myself (with a bit of lucas ). But our winter temps are not consistently below 0 F . I think if you click on it, it will be clearer

My 85 R is galvanized. I was under the same impression, that 1985 was the first year. I don't know about the F models though.

I would take" stock Mack"," stock Brockway", and" stock Autocar" any day of the week. Especially over the Foose JD. Not my preference.

It just seems like a couple of years, its amazing how time flys. Its been 6 years now. Started Jan. 01/2009. I know guys that have the trucks reprogrammed, or a hidden switch that will allow them to run faster than the speed limiter. I've never had to worry about speed limiters on my old mechanical Macks. Exempt because Its manufactured before 1995, and doesn't have an ECM. 13. (1) A commercial motor vehicle is exempt from subsections 68.1 (1), (2), (3) and (6) of the Act if it is, (a..) a bus; ( b.) a mobile crane; (c.) a motor home; (d.) a vehicle manufactured before 1995; (e.) a vehicle with a manufacturer’s gross vehicle weight rating under 11,794 kilograms; or (f.) an ambulance, a cardiac arrest emergency vehicle, or a fire apparatus. O. Reg. 396/08, s. 1. (2) For the purposes of clauses (1) (d) and (e), the date that a commercial motor vehicle was manufactured and its manufacturer’s gross vehicle weight rating shall be deemed, in the absence of evidence to the contrary, to be, (a.) the date and weight on the commercial motor vehicle’s compliance label; or ( b.) where a commercial motor vehicle does not have a compliance label affixed or the label is illegible, a document from the vehicle’s manufacturer that is carried by the driver and that references the vehicle’s vehicle identification number and indicates its year of manufacture and gross vehicle weight rating. I wasn't sure if some might find this interesting. This is a pic of the dash valve for the under hood air intake. Normal, draws air from the top of the air cleaner. Rain or snow, draws air from under the hood.

Wobblin, I think thomastractorsvc has you pointed in the right direction. The paints may not be compatible. You also have to make sure there is no trace of oils or wax. The paint will react to that also. Before you paint ,wipe the surface with rubbing alcohol and a clean cloth. You've done such a good job so far it would be a shame to not have the green turn out good also.

Paul, when the ground freezes it expands. Clay can expand more than sandy ground. Your footings need to be on ground you know won't freeze. If the ground under your footing freezes, it will raise the footing, screwing up foundation walls and the structure that's on it. Our frost line is 121.9 cm or 4 ft. I put water services down 5 ft. I think green dash summed it up properly. Before I plowed snow, I used to drive a furnace oil delivery truck. I remember well what its like getting into residential and farm driveways in the winter. Some of them were very tough. I always had a shovel and a 2 pails of sand on my truck. You got out without wrecking anything . Good job, in my book!!! Keith

I think you need otherdog to photoshop in some safety harnesses and lines.. lol Looks good. I find it interesting that your sheeting with plywood. Will you put steel on top of that? A pole barn built here would't have anything between the steel and the wood frame. Your shop will be as solid as a brick shit house. Keith

Thanks 1965, for the info. I was told that a silver 92 was electronic. I had no idea that they were around earlier. My buddy has what is remaining of the engine. It seems like a lot of parts are missing, and the rest of it has sat out in the weather for the last 16 years. So you can imagine what it looks like ( a pile of rusted crap) . Its not my truck. Its my buddys. I just offered to help because I'm a little shy of $$$$$$ for my Crap projects. So this is the best way to get my truck fix. So I don't know a lot about it. But by the look of things though, It looks like its an '85. So I don't think it would be a silver 92. Its interesting Al, you called it a 8V-92TA……. That's what's on the line setting ticket.
