  1. Paul, when the ground freezes it expands. Clay can expand more than sandy ground. Your footings need to be on ground you know won't freeze. If the ground under your footing freezes, it will raise the footing, screwing up foundation walls and the structure that's on it. Our frost line is 121.9 cm or 4 ft. I put water services down 5 ft. Keith
  2. Someone is getting a very nice truck !!!
  3. Looks like its going to be as solid as the truck that will be parked in it. Very nice.
  4. Welcome. Saw your trucks in the gallery. NICE Keith
  5. I hope our Liberal premier of Ontario, Canada doesn't see this. She will think its a great idea and be implementing it right away.
  6. I think green dash summed it up properly. Before I plowed snow, I used to drive a furnace oil delivery truck. I remember well what its like getting into residential and farm driveways in the winter. Some of them were very tough. I always had a shovel and a 2 pails of sand on my truck. You got out without wrecking anything . Good job, in my book!!! Keith
  7. Those colours sure look sharp !!!! Great job!!
  8. I think you need otherdog to photoshop in some safety harnesses and lines.. lol Looks good. I find it interesting that your sheeting with plywood. Will you put steel on top of that? A pole barn built here would't have anything between the steel and the wood frame. Your shop will be as solid as a brick shit house. Keith
  9. Thanks 1965 for the offer of the manual. Very good of you !!!! For now, I don't think it will be needed. My buddy still isn't sure what he is doing. If it turns out it would come in handy, I will PM you for a price, and how to get you some $$$ Keith
  10. I wanted to thank everyone for their help. I was thinking to myself, these guys sure don't discriminate. Helping to get a General with a Detroit back on the road…….on a Mack forum, is pretty cool in my book. Goes to show a lot of us like old trucks period. Doesn't matter what kind . However , we like some more than others. lol Keith
  11. Thanks 1965, for the info. I was told that a silver 92 was electronic. I had no idea that they were around earlier. My buddy has what is remaining of the engine. It seems like a lot of parts are missing, and the rest of it has sat out in the weather for the last 16 years. So you can imagine what it looks like ( a pile of rusted crap) . I am going to look at the bolts on the main bearings though. It would be cool if it was a silver. Thanks Keith Thanks for the info on the auction Al. I sent the link to my buddy. Told him he needed to buy it. That would be very cool addition to the general. Thanks Keith Thanks for the link and the info JT. I have been trying to convince him to go with a 12V also. There was one in a snowblower up here that I told him to buy and put in it. Thanks Keith
  12. Its not my truck. Its my buddys. I just offered to help because I'm a little shy of $$$$$$ for my Crap projects. So this is the best way to get my truck fix. So I don't know a lot about it. But by the look of things though, It looks like its an '85. So I don't think it would be a silver 92. Its interesting Al, you called it a 8V-92TA……. That's what's on the line setting ticket.
  13. Thanks everyone for your help. I think for now, my buddy will be trying to stay local for parts.
  14. Thanks Alex, hopefully you will see it at Clifford……under its own power……? Maybe towed behind a Mack, Lol
  15. Thanks for the info Jim. Thanks Keg1, I hope everything is going ok with your orange R
  16. Canada or US…. our money isn't worth much these days. If something could be bought in Canada, it would be better.
  17. Thanks! I kinda think the same.
  18. Thanks Rob, I think the shipping might put things over budget. But you never know! Keith
  19. I wanted to share a little rescue I did in the fall. A good friend of mine found this General in a barn yard. The story is, in 1998 the 8V92 seized up and the owner didn't have the money to fix it. So it got towed to the barn yard, they took out the motor(with the intention to fix it) and there it sat for 16 years. Other than the motor and the fact that it has sat and become a home to a lot of animals. It is in pretty good shape. In my opinion, it was, and could be, a very sharp truck. My friend wants to do a restoration to it. It will be a show/play truck ,hopefully with a 8V92 in it again. His biggest problem will be looking for parts. There isn't many Generals in our part of the world, to scavenge parts off of. If any Ontario guys know of any, maybe you could let me know. Needs : grill, bumper , 8V92
  20. Just saw this. What a great story! I'm thankful there is folks around that try to keep these rigs and their stories alive. That way they don't end up as razor blades and pop cans. Have fun with it , and keep us posted !
  21. Very impressive !!! I think it would take me a year to accomplish what you have done in a little over a month. I think it would take me a month to decide where I was going to start. Great job. Thanks again for sharing Keith
  22. Hope everyone has a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2015 Keith
  23. Here is the thread that Superdog started on that truck. http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?/topic/37274-b61-single-axle/ Great job on your truck!! Love it !! Keith
  24. I was curious. Would this be a factory Mack radio? It doesn't say Mack on it anywhere. As far as I know It's the original radio to the truck. 1985 RD
  25. Good to hear things are working out.
