  1. Sounds about the same as I get with a 285 and 6 speed direct w/4.17 rears. My buddy had a 89 R model with a Mack 350 and a 9 speed Mack with rears that could get you to 85 mph in top gear...would cruise at 65 mph at 1500-1600 rpm and thats the speed we were most at. His truck was getting 6.3-6.5 on the hi way with a gross of about 65k and 5.75 with 75k.. This was a run we did from Chicago to L.I.N.Y and back...
  2. The only problem I had was that after a year some of the cracks showed back up. They are hairline cracks and any dirt will get into it. But for $30 worth of paint it sure looks better than before...its one of those things that made the truck stand out better than the rest.
  3. I had my brown wheel painted white... Came out good too. Just fill in any cracks as best you can with steering wheel repair epoxy And hope it don't spread.
  4. I think the problem is that a 237 has 900ftlbs of tq where the old 673 or 711 had under 700ftlbs tq. The quad was rated to mid 700 ftlbs if I recall? It will work for a hobby truck and many did it back in the day but it will be at its limits, the genral thought was if done drive it like you own it...
  5. I just want to know how the duck was able to hit the floor so quick when Lyle started shooting at him. I mean both doors were closed , air in the seat , big white western steering wheel, and the cameraman was sitting shotgun...wtf?
  6. Always wondered what kind of bracket is used to mount an air cleaner on the left hand cab of a r model. All the super liners I saw had a stainless bracket that looked like it bolted to a flat steel plate ... But super liners had a different cowl and this seamed easy. How about some pics from the guys down under of the inside and outside of the cab ??
  7. sorry to hear of the troubles Dan. I was kinda suprised to see you buy one of the early 2000 macks as even you had commented before that they had issues. The truck looks great I just hope you did not get one that is a basket case. I looked under the hood of some othe these new macks and I can only imagine what it takes to work on them. i thought the engines in the R models were tight...not!!! keep us posted!
  8. if you think the harness was the issue I can contact a person that may be able to make a custome harness for you. He is a friend that made all the diffrent coustome harnesses on Indy Race cars. many times the wires are ok but the style plugs that were the issue. a bad plug lets in water, dirt etc... just let me know...
  9. Yea the Mack jake brakes were a joke. Glad these hold back better. What's the specs?
  10. Trucks always seam to basket cases.. My RS was in known rough shape so I expected the worse. But that's why they are hobby trucks.
  11. Looking good how does it do in the woods?
  12. What is the standard off set for a budd rim... I want alum front budds and see there are different offsets. Currently I have steel budds and want to make sure I keep them all the same offsets
  13. For today's trucks I like the classic long hoods. Pete kw....they are the only ones left that make a product that looks truckly. For old school I would take a auto car.
  14. I don't think you will be happy with the road speed even after a double over quad box is installed. Your rear end is way slow. For example A 5.73 rear end with a double over quad will get you to about 63 mph at 2100 rpm. Thats kinda slow with a fast rpm. If your just trucking to shows or under 60k gross weight,Your maxidyne would love a 3.86 rear and a 5 speed. Not only will you get highway road speeds but better mpg and less shifting. Just my .02 Will a early 70s diff not drop in your housing???
  15. whoa! thank god... he responded correctly in this situtation
  16. Go in at night...
  17. Ray hows the MPG without the stacks....it looks so bare without them!!!!!! LOL
  18. yea we rolled it over to the factory setting of 19* BTDC. yes we are assuming the timing was at stock and never adjusted, We backed off the 4 bolts that hold the pump to the gear. Held the pump still with a wrench while we barred the engine back to 25* BTDC. then locked the 4 bolts back down. and put the timing cover back on. here is the pull we did last Friday. She ran a little better and the RPMs did not drop as much when under full load. we made a full pull, 309' !! http://youtu.be/rPbOCN1aDDg
  19. what did I miss???? Trent
  20. Pig pen......
  21. wow! good find....whats the plans for it?
  22. Yep They have some of the best "fast food" Pizza in Chicagoland. And whats best is you can eat on the south side or out in the far NW burbs and it still tastes the same! Keep me posted! FYI sled pulls are tomorrow night at Lake County IL Trent
  23. Rob I am pretty much traveling every other week untill the end of September. just let me know when you think you will be up this way. Weekends or week nights are best for me. Trent
  24. Ok think I got it done last night. I was able to bar the engine over to the factory 19* BTDC.( Pointer on the 19* mark on the damper) I then had a friend put a wrench on the pump nut, we marked a refrence location with a scribe. I then slowly bared the engine to 25*BTDC and locked the pump back down.
