  1. if found to be sane.....
  2. I may be confusing the designation? I was speaking of the Maxxforce engine that navistar built...that engine was a problem from day one
  3. If the cab over is like the R models the power runs from the batteries to the starter. from starter to fuse panel. at the panel some power goes to lights and such that will turn on when the key is off. other power goes to a relay that is only on with the key in the run position. I would first check that + power is in fact making it to these locations, put the ground probe on a solid ground such as the frame or negative battery post. If you have power checking it this way. then you have a bad ground. (most common electrical issue) check the grounds or simply add in a new ground from the frame up to where ever you see the panel ground is at. Can never have to many ground wires.
  4. I 100% agree that Cruz is ultimately at fault. he was behind the trigger and acted alone. However the one solid defense we have to prevent this exact action was ignored by the people that we pay to help prevent this. And now all we will hear is we will review protocol (other wise known as make it even more complicated and fuck ups continue) bottom line is if I dial 911 with a claim that I see someone about to cause harm the police show up. If I called the FBI about a terrorist threat to a school. I would hope they would send out someone to investigate the issue and question me on what I know about said threat. This was complete lazy failure on the FBI. unless other facts come out to show the FBI did in fact do something I stand by my statements. Trent
  5. the MX engines that I know of no one likes them and they have lots of issues. James I said the same thing. mack is has continued to slip in the off road markets and now the refuse market. The recent leadership clearly does not understand how to build and sell trucks that people want. that being said I do think Mack builds a better truck but they cost more, look like hell, and are always one step behind pete and KW with regards to options.
  6. Nice specs Auto transmissions are the way to go these days with the new trucks. Wait did I just say that out loud??? . It will be interesting to see how well it stands up compared to the rest of your Mack fleet. It will surly stand out in the yard.
  7. I was out this afternoon and when I returned late tonight My wife asked me if I had heard about the FBI not looking into this threat 5 weeks ago. I turned on the news and was so pissed when I heard this was over looked. WTF is that. Thats like calling 911 and the cops or fire dept never show up. This person saw the threat, called into the FBI because they knew it was a serious issue above the local police dept level. and nothing was done . A quick look by any piss ant at the FBI would have found the social media posts and a interview with the caller could have provided many other tips to have headed this killing spree off. My Father in law was a Orlando cop and he informed me of the Baker act. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_Mental_Health_Act My local physician could have had him detained with a simple note....The FBI and local PD had clear evidence to stop and detain cruz if they would have checked their E-Mail or Voicemail.. So pissed right now...
  8. Chicks dig scars. just need to come up with a better story Feel better!
  9. looks like a cascadia???? not a fan of that truck. Sleeper looks all plastic as well... that will be a squeaky ride after it rattles itself louse
  10. What drive train did you guy spec with it?
  11. for every 60,000 miles one can receive $1000???? If my math is correct thats a bonus of about .016 CPM for driving teams...Hell Id pay my Employer $1000 just so I did not have to drive teams. It sounds great until you do the math. In my opinion they should be looking to get a driver home as often as they can vs keep them out on the road for longer periods. I cant see them retaining drivers with this smoke and mirrors program. But thats just my .02 worth
  12. when was the last time it was drained? need to drain it again in say a week and see how much oil comes out of it
  13. some of the later R models and early CH models had a known issue with surge tanks and coolant push issues, did you replace the cap yet?
  14. I keep calling it the Antler for some unknown reason?
  15. I know that engine and metal technology has advanced but simple physics stay the same. A smaller engine working hard to make 450Hp will not last as long as a larger engine that makes the same hp but under less stress. Synthetic Oil has improved engine wear but lets be real about any of these new engines. Every engine Mfg highlights the good HP and TQ numbers . they dont highlight they bad things with them....Regardless of engine stand testing, A large percent of them out in the real vocation world cant get past 300,000 miles without some sort of major costly issues. To me even the older engines that needed bearings at 300k were still more reliable regardless of their HP. You could make the argument that the little 300hp maxidyne used today is a better option on cost savings alone.... HP and TQ are just numbers same as operational cost and replacement.. It reminds me of the old saying Good, Fast and Cheap, you can pic 2 but never have all 3
  16. I will admit that after being out of an R model for a while then getting into one it takes a few stop lights to get back into the habit of letting the RPMs drop before grabbing the next gear. I also tend to pull it out of 5th looking for that next gear on the highway . but they were the trucks I learned on and it comes back to you quick. I think the guys that have never driven a 5 or 6 speed mack but spent years with 13 speeds have it harder to grasp the shifting of them
  17. I think The 9 speed is the closest at .71
  18. I know alot of OTR guys liked the Series 60 but all the billy big rig paccar owners tried to talk if down for it not being a cat or cummins. I think it was just as reliable as the 3406E and it got better fuel milage.
  19. low pro 24.5 is basically the same overall diameter as a 11R22.5. The rev per mile between the two tires is a difference of less than 1mph in top gear. You are in a pinch here. You can turn the RPMs up to 2100 safely but it still does not change the fact of the huge overdrive that the little 300 still pulls in. I had a friend with a low RPM motor turned up to 2100 and it did great pulling 73,280 around with a 6 speed but it would drink the fuel. I ran out of fuel one day and the 55gal tank was full when I left the yard. mind you this was all Chicagoland driving. Going to a 9 speed with a slower OD will allow the engine to not work as hard but it drops your max MPH down to 54MPH (at 1800RPM) and you would want to turn the pump up anyways. Also that Mack 9speed with 5.73 rears will have you some very short gears on the low side. I would think that the low side would have a few redundant gears but the high side would better suit your needs. 4.42 was a common rear gear for the 9 speed. I should also mention that the 9 speed mack had range selector clutch pack issues. there were revisions made to them thru the years Trent
  20. I think his best bet for now is to turn the pump up to a 2100 maxidyne setting and see if he likes it better? it wont change the gap between 4th and 5th but it will have more balls pulling thru the gears. I pump re cal around here is about $150 if you pull and re install it yourself.
  21. Ok that is why I was asking... with 5.73 rears you are kinda limited. That Mack 5 speed has a .60 overdrive in 5th gear and should put you at 74MPH at 2100RPM . If you can only do 65 I think you may have a low RPM pump setting (1800RPM) you can turn that pump up to a normal 2100RPM pump and it will run alot better but it will drink some fuel. for example here are the top speeds at 2100 rpm with 22.5 tires and 5.73 rears Mack 5 or 6 speed direct with 22.5 tires and 1:1 trans 44MPH in top gear T2090 Mack 9 speed with 22.5 tires and .71 OD puts you at 62 MPH in 9th gear 12 speed mack with 22.5 tires and .78OD 57MPH in 12th gear 8LL with 22.5 tires and .60 OD puts you at 60 MPH in 8th gear you can see from where the speeds fall between a direct trans or a .60 to .78 over drive Trent
  22. First off what rear end ratio do you have? Mack made some of the slowest and fastest transmission and the rear end gearing was very different.
  23. Truck paper has a section for parts for sale and they had lots of take off sleepers.https://www.truckpaper.com/listings/truck-trailer-attachment/for-sale/list?catid=35032
  24. Dan I like how you are using what looks like a KW style Battery box/Step under the doors. Its one place where I think Mack had it backwards on sleeper cab trucks. With putting the fuel tanks under the bunk and the batt box under the cab it just looked cleaner and the exhaust routing did not have to be stuffed under the cab. The KW steps also have a much wider foot plate for ease of getting in and out of the cab. The use of the early Rs700L box is interesting. I recall seeing a Superliner where they added a pete or KW style Battery box/steps like you have under the cab and behind the steer tire they removed the stock Mack air tank and batt box. In its place they put a flat painted panel in its place similar to how a Pete does. made the hood look even longer than normal.
  25. Looks mounted up side down. Makes it easy to lousen but what a mess it will make when the seal brakes. And then how do you bleed off all that air LOL? I always refill the new filter with fuel to avoid air lock
