  1. As I see this, it is a classic case of "crisis avoidance". Think about it. Anniversary of 9-11! Were we not on a high level of alert? Didn't most Americans have a sense of dread anticipating perhaps some sort of action by the Islamic nut jobs? But in a classic move on the part of Barry and his crew, there WAS no attack- just a street mob wrecking an embassy and in the process, four Americans happened to die. Think about it-if this was immediately recognized as a serious terrorist attack, Obama and crew would have been forced to face up to it and take definitive action. And we know how clueless and spineless this guy is. What better way to avoid having to "do something"-and by the way, run the risk of doing it wrong or being criticized for whatever action he took- than to do nothing-"because folks-nothing to see here-just move along" Like I said, best way to avoid having to face a tough problem is to not see or recognize that a problem existed. And Obama did just that and Hillary was a part of the team. That to me is the real tragedy of Benghazi. Obama is a far bigger culprit than is Hillary in this deal.
  2. One other thing I just noticed- that looks like a center point steer front axle-don't think those were around when that puppy went down the line!
  3. This is good news that they are moving forward. In the meantime I read something that the SEC has served notice that they are about to whack them with another suit-again based on dealings during the Ustian era. they are not out of the woods yet.
  4. LTS 9000- looking good- did not get that far yet to see it in green colors. How about the twin engine Euc pan with THREE D-9's pushing! Wonder how long it took to fill that puppy! Thx Jim for the Link.
  5. How about two more choices- a 6 cyl diesel and an Allison. And I DO understand the profitability associated with an inhouse power train. But how many sales will be lost because not everyone will buy into the "light duty" power train-regardless of warranty. Then again, time will tell. Maybe it is .."the little engine that could"
  6. You don't suppose with those small pipes and hood bulges this thing might have had a V block Detroit of some sort stuffed in it?
  7. Well the real shocker is the bit about the Saudi's chairing the UN Human Rights Council. Oh wait-its the UN! Why does anything surprise me about this joke of an organization.
  8. No doubt about it. Plus the story mentioned a tunnel being completed near Washington (DC?) to handle double stack containers. That to me is almost a bigger issue than the double tracks. I think in the Northeast in particular, there are plenty of bottlenecks because of low bridges. once those are cleared up tough to argue with the economics of two boxes on a car vs one. Also tough to argue with that CSX ad... "we move a ton of freight 467 miles on a gallon of fuel." Assume a truck in an 80,000 lb. state cubes out at 25 tons. So rail in terms of fuel cost runs that 25 ton load over 467 miles for 25 gallons of fuel. That is like 18.7 mpg. Granted, lots of other costs (on both sides of the issue) but in terms of energy alone, rail is the big winner. In any case, it says to me the short haul market is where class 8 tractor sales will be. Intermodal rail yard to final customer or distribution center.
  9. Anyone notice what the hydraulic jacks went for? I think there were at least two groups of them. given the fact you can't buy a jack today that isn't made in China I was thinking there might be some good ol' USA jacks in that collection-either working or worth rebuilding.
  10. This has been ongoing for a couple of months. The other day I was able to pull up a message but that was a one shot deal. I show "2" messages currently but when I click on the "message" icon, nothing happens anyone have a clue? Bob
  11. Wow- 300 acres = 13,050,000 sq ft. Assuming you have a 12' pusher on that Hyundai, 13,050,000/12=1,087,500 lineal ft or 205 miles of "lane". What is your secret? Typo in the 300? or is it a tank farm of 300 acres and you do the road network in that farm?
  12. GDash- 53-56 pretty much the same body style with minor grill changes and in 56, they went to full wrap around windshield. I've always said-and of course a matter of opinion -that the 53-55's had about the most timeless design. Show some non truck person say a picture of a 55 and then say a 2005 and I would bet they would never say they were looking at a 50 year time span.
  13. D-Diesel- agree-thought the same thing that this GM deal would take the place of Ford at Navistars Escobedo plant. But if these are going to be class 4 and 5's as opposed to the Ford deal which was class 6 and 7 using the Navistsar 4000 series chassis, does that have something to do with it? Are the Navistar TerraStar class 5's built in Springfield-that might explain it. How about it KSC-your spin?
  14. GM and Navistar reach commercial vehicle agreement DETROIT and LISLE, Ill., Sept. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- General Motors Co. and Navistar have reached a long-term agreement to develop and assemble future medium-duty, conventional cab Class 4/5 commercial vehicles, allowing Navistar to strengthen its product lineup and GM to expand its Chevrolet commercial truck portfolio. "Bringing medium-duty conventional cab trucks back into the portfolio strengthens Chevrolet's commitment to providing commercial customers with more choices and one-stop shopping for a versatile lineup of trucks, vans and crossovers," said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president of GM Fleet and Commercial Sales. The future products will be jointly developed using Navistar's expertise in rolling chassis configurations and manufacturing capabilities, and GM's commercial components and engines. The vehicles are slated for production in 2018 and will be manufactured at Navistar's facility in Springfield, Ohio. Navistar plans to add 300 jobs and invest more than $12 million in facility upgrades and state-of-the-art equipment to produce the new vehicles. "Our collaboration with GM is another example of our customer-centric, open integration approach—providing our customers with the best technologies available," said Bill Kozek, president, Truck and Parts, Navistar. "By working with an industry-leading company like GM, we'll be able to enhance our medium-duty product portfolio and leverage our scale and expertise in manufacturing medium-duty trucks." Specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Additional product information will be announced later. .
  15. No such thing as boring when you are talking history! There was another Acar very similar to yours that was on Craigs or ebay motors a year or so ago-at least it was orange!.
  16. If the pix are any indication, seems to me those two were very good deals-am I alone in that thought?
  17. Won't be long before this work goes to Mexico-although sounds to me with such a high percentage of workers on temp status and at such low labor rates the Mexicans probably make as much. This to me sounds like stupid management-or should I say truly greedy management? As for KSC's comments about the Mack cab production being done in a run down plant that exists because of its proximity to Winnsboro, that contract can't be long for this world. Let's see- who is i that business in close proximity to Macungie? Is CVG a Brit company or American owned?
  18. As for 650/750-maybe-but there is another school of thought that 650/750 will end up with a cab specifically designed/built for medium duty to include the E-450 cut aways. Ford builds a lot of those and the E-450 is last model using old E series nose. 650/750 and E cutaways now built in Ford plant at Avon Lake Ohio. Will be interesting to see how that shakes out. And BigDog-10-4 on the aluminum bashing while they work like crazy designing their own aluminum truck. The CAFE regs don't play favorites!
  19. RR- Wild thought- do you have to worry about antifreeze doing a number on that tire valve seal? Just make sure cap is on tight???
  20. No Jim- all prior conversations are forgotten at that point.
  21. And add to your parts inventory, the ability to be creative. Now this is timely as I'm getting all kinds of grief about my "inventory"- be it surplus wood, azek, or steel. The "you never know when you are going to need it" argument is under attack.
  22. F-Model-any chance that system might make it into a truck at Avon Lake? In any case nice to hear some American talent is going into the Cargo.
