  1. Thx guys for responses. when you read these collectively, you understand why I ask the question. There seem to be significant inconsistencies. And I do believe what are often reported as 6.7 problems, are in fact "stories" that go back to the 6.0, 6.4 fiasco. In any case, most of the experiences reported in this thread involve 550's on the high end. I t will be interesting to see just how this thing does in 750 at 33,000 gvw-to say nothing of 37,000 and at continuous use at those ratings.
  2. No more questions to Blackdog please. He is in witness protection program!
  3. - hear you on the trailer brakes. Sounds like your outfit is good proving ground for 550 with that kind of utilization. I think given the choice, I would opt for a 650 crew vs the 550. How often do you really need the 4 x 4 feature
  4. thx for response. No doubt they do a good job in the low weight ranges. I'm really interested in how they are holding up in 450/550 at the higher end-19,500 gvw.
  5. thx for responses. TJC 30 units @ 150k is a pretty good sample! As an aside, I guess it doesn't matter- class 3-5 or class 8, the emissions crap is a PITA!
  6. Any opinions out there on the 6.7 Ford Power Stroke? AGAIN- I'm talking about the 6.7-which has been out now 3 or 4 model years- not the 6.0 or 6.4's which have a ton of baggage and led to the Navistar/Ford "divorce". And please-no comments about .." I know a guy whose cousin's brother in law had one and it blew at...blah-blah". Factual experience please. Good -bad, good fuel economy, bad fuel economy etc. This engine is now offered by Ford in the 2016 F-650/750 at up to 37,000 lb GVW. They also have a 250,000 mile warranty on it in those applications so talk about putting it on the table! Local oil heat dealer with a predominant International fleet (and one F'liner F2) just bought a new Hino. Ford in the day OWNED the home heating oil market (2,800 gal, 33,000 lb GVW) in the NoEast between the old C model and the Louisville but its a new ball game today. This new truck should get some of that business back but I think the old Power Stroke "baggage" is not helping them. Again any "experienced opinions? And I recognize we are talking about F-250-550 but if the engine isn't cutting it in those applications-in particular 550 at 19,500 lbs, how is it going to fair in class 6/7 or even "baby 8 " at 37,000 lb?
  7. If you do a search- Fire Truck catches fire, Acton MA you will get news story. Sorry could not post directly-it was a Pierce- chief says OOS for 6 mos.
  8. Any of you fire buffs catch the news about Acton Mass last week? Aerial caught fire in the station- they managed to get truck out of the house before it became a real big time disaster. Not sure but I think it was a Pierce or E-One. News coverage on tube showed "melted" grille assembly
  9. guess? 14 x 24??
  10. thx-great pix-any idea what year these were taken?
  11. Old A Car looks good!
  12. Well he did have a chock block-looks a bit on the small side.
  13. Right- I stand corrected-thinking of the "White/GMC/Volvo era.
  14. Bigdog-you mean "Long before" don't you?-Check out the sales guys- bow ties? Not a computer in site? Black dial phone? And a radiator shroud in one shot that looks like its ready for the LeRoi V-8!
  15. Thx Joe- I always thought they were a "one plant" operator
  16. Is that an "Obama/Biden" sticker on her bumper?
  17. KSC- thx for posting. Would be interesting to see what changed (if anything-but I'm sure it did) once White bought the company. For sure they recognized what they had bought as they quickly killed Sterling but did they keep their "corporate hands" off it? Were A-Cars built in the Exton plant (I assume that is the one in the photo?) right up until the end?
  18. A big "10-4" to all of the previous posts. Merry Christmas and say a prayer for America's future.
  19. Amazing huh? A lot of experienced people here and we are all (so it seems to me) now scratching our heads about what we have taken for granted as we bend over with an air chuck on a tire at 90 pds! Have to admit- only "fear" I've ever had is an uncaged lock ring taking off
  20. This is the travesty of this so called new environmental agreement. I do believe China and India are exempt from certain regulations/restrictions. Why? Just think, the American foundry industry was put out of business by the Clean Air Act. This partially explains why so much crap is made in China today-or India-go find some "weld-on" hooks that DON"T have a "made in India" package. Once again our two leading apologists -Barry and the husband of the Heinz Ketchup fortune think they have done a great job with this- totally clueless! We continue to find American industry/workers hamstrung by our so called leadership-who never broke a bead of sweat in their pampered lives.
  21. Freightrain's link has the same wire service story. As an aside I called one of the biggest multi location commercial tire outfits this AM to check on what it would cost me for them to blast these Daytons I picked up -(35 bucks-just the rim itself). I asked the guy what he had heard and he said..."probably an f-450/550 with 19.5's -Sears won't work on anything bigger and even those must go in a cage even though they are a one piece rim".
  22. Not sure if this is the right forum, but an unfortunate reminder. A young worker at a Sears tire store was killed this week when a "truck tire" he was working on exploded. He was killed and the customer who was close by was badly injured. No word on exactly what was involved in this incident but a newspaper account indicated he was working on an.."industrial tire changer". I don't usually think of Sears when it comes to large truck tires but the fact that the paper referred to an "industrial tire changer" leads me to believe perhaps this was a 3 piece rim that was not caged. Again a guess. Further point, I picked up two junk tire wheel assemblies last week- 8 x 24 rims-tough to find. One tire not holding air, the other charged. I took them over to a heavy truck shop (where I'm known and they love seeing the old to have them broken down, blasted and painted, and the owner said.."forget it-I'm done working with those". So say a prayer for those involved in this incident which is another painful reminder of what can happen. If anyone has anymore details please post. Thx
  23. And in the early 80's they bought a good number of Ford C-8000's (E-0nes)
  24. My bet is Ford is just doing its homework and this thing will be ready to go if the market clearly says.."yes, we are losing too many sales to Ram with their V-6 ". In the meantime, I 'm sure the Ford position continues to be.."who needs a diesel when the two Ecoboost options give equal performance for less money". The fact that diesel fuel is back to an equal basis with 87 octane, is also a factor that makes the diesel economics a bit better IMO.
  25. Nice- whenever I miss the sound of a Detroit I can click on this!
