  1. Looks great! Those trucks look beastly.
  2. Mack is definitely a better truck, but Pete makes a good one too...especially if you're gonna run all interstate. There's a lot worse trucks out there than Pete.
  3. Green Dash, that Fotki Overdrive scan is great...especially the cabover Pete with the 12V-71 in it (tractor of the month runner-up). I wonder how hard it was to maintain those 12 cylinder DDs.
  4. Thank you for the info!
  5. So why are there "359 extended hood" and "379" Petes? What is the difference?
  6. I hate to sound stupid, you'd think I'd be used to it by now...how do you change the middle tires?
  7. Ron, you're right...I hated looking in the mirror on curves because you leaned way over and the stack didn't. They had a crazy dual A/C system...I was told that they were nearly unrepairable.
  8. It was at the Grand View Lodge, actually in Randolph on Rt. 2.
  9. Here's an NOS winter front for $25. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MACK-F-SERIES-Winterfront-Mack-Dog-logo-NEW-Belmor-WF793-/261179861058?hash=item3ccf886842&item=261179861058&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr
  10. Union guys please don't take offense...I used to be in the Operating Engineers and their motto was "A fair day's pay for a fair day's work". If we put in a good day's work and be reasonable with our employer, perhaps we can start to buy our country back from China. When I hear of guys making way more than others, or having to hire a separate guy to operate the body or whatever, somebody is paying for that. Guess who? You and me.
  11. I stayed in a cabin in Gorham a few years ago, spent a week hiking Pinkham Notch and area...absolutely beautiful. If anyone gets a chance to hike to Arethusa Falls or Diana's Baths, they are spectacular. North Conway is a great little town, hopefully it's not getting too touristy.
  12. What exactly are "New Jersey controls"?
  13. My H67 lock is sticky, you have to put a small prybar behind the hook and push it over before it will clear the base.
  14. Green Dash, there is an egg farm in Croton--about 5 miles away. They were in the news a lot just a few years ago because of manure spills, flies, mistreatment of the birds, etc. A German guy owned it and he was banned from the ag business by the authorities because of the way he ran the place.
  15. This is a friend of mine using a tile plow in my field...when the plow gets deep and the tracks start slipping, he hooks up the 4386 to keep forward progress happening.
  16. I seem to remember they had small cam Cummins, maybe 250s but don't quote me on that. It was about that time that Cummins came out with a "Super 250" and the drivers really liked those.
  17. What does he mean, "brakes top pedal"? Did he intend to put "brake stop pedal"?
  18. PeterMack, that collection is amazing! If I'd seen that room when I was a kid, I would have had a heart attack.
  19. Back in the early 70's my dad had a fleet of trucks in Jacksonville Florida; one of the big carriers in that area was Ploof Transfer. Dad tried out some F models that Ploof ordered new as sleepers but when they arrived they were day cabs. Believe it or not, Mack put Mercury sleepers on them to try to please Ploof but they didn't like them so Mack was trying to sell them to us. I don't have any photos; has anyone seen a photo of a beast like that?
  20. I haven't heard of Allison engines, but I know they put Allis-Chalmers engines in trucks back then.
  21. Where is the story about the air start H models? I'd love to read that.
  22. If you go to craigslist.columbus.org and search for "Mack Semi" it's there.
  23. Those pictures of the Ford 9000 remind me of when I drove one once in the 80's, it had 4 air bags on the cab. When you turned the corner, the cab swayed so far it felt like you were going to roll over!
