  1. I was working at a Cat dealer in 1981, we had a brand new 3208 come in that would make a sound like valves hitting the pistons every time you started it. We checked a lot of things over before the lead mechanic noticed the spaghetti line feeding into the intake. Come to find out it had an electric solenoid that put a shot of ether in there every time you started it, no thermostat to cancel it when the engine was warm.
  2. The control line port is 1/4 pipe by the way. Seems more like a 3/8 line; if they want you to use 1/2 they should have put 3/8 pipe threads there.
  3. I'm using all Bendix brake valves and nylon lines on my truck; this is an R12 relay valve for the service brakes. What size control line should I use from the treadle valve...3/8" or 1/2"? If anyone has a service brake relay valve on their truck, could you look at what size your line is? Thank you!
  4. I got this in a lot of Mack parts; I don't know what it is. The bolt holes are 4-3/4" on center...you can see what the part number is (it was still sealed in the bag). If anybody can use it, PM me your address and I will ship it to you.
  5. On BigIron auctions, in Nebraska. Looks like a nice truck (with the exception of wedge brakes). Two weeks left on the auction. https://www.bigiron.com/Lots/1979MackRS686LSTTATruckTractor

    There's also a 1979 R model that looks decent...I'll start a new post for that one. https://www.bigiron.com/Lots/1967MackF737STTACaboverTruckTractor
  7. Definitely a White 3000. I wonder if the concrete blocks are stacked on the Bobcat tires to keep the wind from blowing it away?
  8. My single axle donor truck is an H67LT so it's got aluminum suspension brackets and air tanks. I cleaned the tanks thoroughly (inside and out) and pressure tested them. I used a jitterbug with 320 paper and then wet sanded with 600, 800, and 1000; then polished with Mothers. They're still scarred from decades of hanging under a truck but I like them anyway. I'm not going for a showroom new look, I like a truck that has some character to it.
  9. What condition was he in after the hit? Interesting that you say that, because I got hired as a truck fleet mechanic in 1984 at Pic-Way Shoes after the guy before me stopped in the street to pick up a carton of cigarettes that someone dropped. A lady who was legally blind ran over him and he was killed.
  10. This ad on ebay says this was part of their historical fleet and stored indoors. Looks really sharp! $34,500 or best offer. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1989-Mack-R-R600/124579976948?hash=item1d018b96f4:g:Kc8AAOSw0PNgLrYA&autorefresh=true
  11. The ad is gone so I think it's sold. He told me he had 8 guys wanting to come look at it yesterday.
  12. I drove down and looked at this truck today. It's got a 4 valve E6 with the original Quadruplex in it; the frame has been sectioned in the middle and newer Mack axles with Neway air ride have been added. The transmission blew in 2015; it has been completely rebuilt but the truck hasn't been on the road since then. The owner said the motor has a problem; at first it ran wide open and then it wouldn't come up off idle. It's in much better shape than most old H models but it has a lot of bondo in the cab that is all bubbling out. He can probably get his asking price since these are so rare especially with a live tandem. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/772076626992316/?ref=search&referral_code=undefined
  13. I worked for a fleet in the 80's, we ran into a lot of dirty plugs or receptacles that would burn up the connectors. We'd put in a new plug and receptacle, no more trouble. Drawing 1500 watts all night will test the quality of any connection.
  14. You ain't kidding about stimulating...the Axalta paint for my cab was $700/gallon.
  15. Did you buy new circuit breakers? Where did you get them?
  16. One thing you run into on these old camelbacks--not enough room to fit a standard chamber. The rotochambers are a lot smaller diameter.
  17. Here is a cushion cover with the dog embroidered in it; he also has some cushions and other covers. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Unused-Old-Stock-Mack-6235226023-Bostrom-Seat-Cover-Gray-6235226-023/294016452724?hash=item4474bf0874:g:mYMAAOSwagpgKvFL
  18. I was talking to a guy the other day that had one of the Dodge "Eco Diesel" pickups. He never changed the fuel filter and it turns out the top end or something is lubricated with fuel; the filter got plugged and resulting lack of fuel damaged the engine bad enough that it had to be replaced. Good reminder that maintenance is important!
  19. That sure looks like a pain with exhaust, steering shaft, etc.!
  20. Looks to be in good shape for 189k. From past experience, if someone takes good care of the body and interior, then that bodes well for maintenance also.
  21. Same here; we changed hundreds of tube-type tires back in the 80's, never had one come apart on us.
