  1. intelligence is only part of the equation Joe! The tooling is important as well and you need to have your fucking notebook computer right beside you and follow ALL the DOEHEAD ideas put forth in the instructions cause it will likely f up if you don't ! Remember it's not just a simple diesel Engine any more its a Gong show! Sorry having a negative day today! 😡
  2. Paul ,I am much like you in thought process ! How ever in this particular instance there are a fare few specialty tools involved! your and my way is not really a good way !The Volvo turds designed this engine around specialty tools so you have to take it back to them !Its expensive to buy the tools Dealers HAVE to HAVE these to be a dealer and Its totally labor intensive and that's WHY the dealers have to charge up the ass to do it! Its so expensive to do because they made it that way! ON purpose .Its all about the money! they hope to sell you a new truck ! Instead of the repair! Also the Clutch is a good IDEA As Joe said! your already there! the whole shmeer has to come out to accomplish this feat! Just my take on these guys! I don't like it how ever that's the way things have gone ! And its not only VOLVO/Mack!
  3. Well sorry to hear this! That said the price quoted is correct! Nasty but true ! You definitely need to look into it and in my opinion have it towed to the experienced dealer as is let them do the whole job diagnostics and all! Nothing worse than getting a job that someone else has started! just sayin!
  4. Hope the weight savings was worth having a pressed together cam!? Another dumb ass move by the Volvo turds! So happy to be away from this dumb ass junk! I must say the dollar store fuel system seems to be working OK much to my surprise! Thanks for posting your observations MP!
  5. Yup funny how things go rash of this and a rash of that! Eup bolts were chronic for a bit ! Must of gone to a dollar store bolt for a bit !Similar to the fuel line fiasco! Dumb ass move on macks part! Fan hub bearings cratering for the first bit on the AI engines ! the berr fan hubs on the AC ! Tried to get by with the lowest bid on stuff ! some times there is a reason to pay a bit more for shit! That said whos to know what's good what's not! till you try it!
  6. I found it odd that this issue came along ! These bolts never had an issue till they changed to metric stuff! I believe these were fine thread on E6 maybe this was the reason! Can't remember !
  7. teflon pipe sealant ! Don't use silicone!
  8. You will need every gear ! 🤣I had opportunity to work one of these on a site job for a week ! You really get a work out shifting gears all day! thermal dyne engine ! not to much on power or power band! All I can say it was an experience!!😅 the Note At the bottom of the shift plak there is quite hilarious! You likely would never get into hi gear except on the down hill!🤣
  9. This noise should not be overlooked or dismissed By any means ! depending what it sounds like these engines had issues with the bull gear that drives the cam coming loose ! So pay close attention to it! If it is getting worse Get some help! There is the possibility its the clutch bearing however that noise should change with the use of the clutch should go away when the clutch free pedal is used up! (first inch or two of pedal push! Listen to the engine as the compressor cuts in and out! If the noise goes away when the compressor is pumping All is likely OK! Otherwise I sugest u take it to a (TRUSTED ) dealer in your area for a listen! just my opinion!
  10. You will be fine the only issue you may encounter is it may drop out of gear on rough roads! if it gets to much of a dogs leg in it!
  11. Chester chop you need to change that compressor air filter , Just sayin! As for the charging issue check the big charge wire to the drivers side it had a joint in it right at the box that often caused charging issues! Solder it solid if it hasn't been already!
  12. post the year and model for starters!
  13. Cupdemic!🤣 for you soon there will be a cup shortage ! your useing them up! They need to be a stocking item at your place! MP
  14. So I have located a 87 Case 580E extenda hoe only thing missing is a thumb ! 8000 hrs did these come with a thumb attachment or was the extenda hoe option an either or option for having a thumb! could you have both ! I could make a fixed thumb if need be! Anyone got experience with these units? https://www.kijiji.ca/v-heavy-equipment-machinery/parksville-qualicum-beach/1987-case-580e-backhoe/1629396829?undefined
  15. Up till last year I have always worked in a shop that let us make the calls it would horrible to have to work in that environment ! They hired a micro manager last year and that made my decision to retire! Done! Don’t need this shit! Just drives away customers!
  16. Good find buddy! Obviously not something I would have been my first go to!
  17. Don't let them talk you into the road choice copy cat stuff buy the the genuine Delco!
  18. Guys you’re at risk of breaking the block on e6 if you try drag much more from it! Ambac pump is easy to crank up how ever you run the risk!350 is it’s limit! There was a reason E7 came about!
  19. All good anything I can past on I do! The intermittent nature of this issue makes me think this is what is going on how ever can’t rule out the skirt issue unless you look! They usually didn’t live long but there still maybe the odd engine out there with these pistons! Your no slouch in the info department your self ! I also enjoy reading the posts you make ! A Wealth Of info ! If it helps anyone here its a bonus!
  20. Guess anything is possible joe how ever I highly doubt his cam button has become worn! It’s easy enough to set think it’s a half turn loose idea! The older engines you could take the big bolt off the side of the transfer pump and detention the spring with an extra washer ! I suggested the extra gasket cause chances of finding an extra washer for that bolt would be slim to none these days! As for the button it’s an easy check for sure!chances are the bearings on the fuel pump cam are worn some and he has some deflection of the cam caused by the pump! Causing a fuel knock on cylinder 1 !
  21. Another thing you could try is putting an extra gasket under the fuel transfer pump to lessen the side load of its cam shaft !
  22. 10/30
  23. Be careful! on this ! Mack played about with 2 piece pistons in the this era the skirts can break up! Pull the pan and look at the piston skirts on the cyl you suspect!
