  1. If you can determine which cylinder is causing the issue these pumps have a track record For the delivery valve washers cracking Its a simple fix if you have the right socket to remove the delivery valve! If you have a fuel shop near you? you could stop by and have em check this!
  2. Are you positive you need more rpm? It maybe be the puff limiter has a hole in the diaphragm! remove the hose from the manifold to the puff limiter and suck on it if it will not hold vacuum you have a compromised diaphram!
  3. That small hose comes from the air governor same one that controls the compressor Once system preasure is reached the governor and that line signals and unloads the air drier till that line has no air on it the air drier stays in the unloaded state! Do you have the lines plumbed to the right ports in and out! just asking? Is it an exact replacement or is it retrofited ! I personally like the Good old AD9 air drier might get flamed for this comment how ever My opinion! Tried and true!
  4. The Shut down light would come on first! before this would happen all three are a one minute warning before shut down! I would be checking the vmac plug on the fuel pump! take it apart and put it together half a dozen times and try it see if the situation changes! if it does you have two choices have the plug repined at the dealer IF THEY CAN FIND their special crimping tools OR hard wire the pump to the harness! just a thought!
  5. Hows your charge air cooler any boost leaks? shouldn't have black smoke under load unless your lugging it! an over fuel /lack of air situation may be causing this issue ! also if you have a viscus fan are you sure its working correctly?
  6. Because of the year of this truck it could be computer controlled or mechanical fuel pump you need to clarify this! Joe h has mentioned a very good point replace the accessory relay .check your battery and starter connections
  7. Yup I would have thought you would have had more poor starting symptoms with a pump that bad! the loosing prime thing happens more often than a low power complaint! We had the loss of prime thing happen the last week ! We checked ALL the normal things with no luck pressure was ok but fluctuating some so we changed out the pump! Once the pump changed ,ALSO no luck we were stumped ! The truck would run after cranking for ever to get it to start If u turned it off it would not start a minute later! reminded me of an MP engine with bad cups ! So I checked The fuel return fuel was full of bubbles just foam The whole time since these engines have been around I have NEVER seen this! So rolled the dice and pull the injectors had em tested! 4 would Not pop test AT ALL the guys gauge maxed out the other 2 were just slobbering fuel it was amazing the engine ran at all ! funny thing is it really didn't sound bad ! Anyway just another Shit happens occurrence Kind like your fuel pump ! Again Good find on the pump Red !
  8. Its to bad the wheel had to squeak so long to get greased , how ever at least it got some! Good luck with the new unit when it gets here bro!
  9. f**ksakes What a pain! So much for the flat rate hope you get paid by the hour!๐Ÿ™„
  10. Another bandaid! They now lock tight and stake the nut horse is out of the barn though! Day late two dollars short!
  11. Sorry to say but in my mind right now you got mostly a big red boat anchor under your hood from what you have said! it may not be worth repairing this ! Due to the age of the unit!
  12. Unfortunately the dude who put the compressor on blew it big time when you got broken gears you need to go looking for why they broke! And these engines have a track record!
  13. Yup and it was still running thatโ€™s the bad part for you yours is not 30 grand could go away in a hurry!
  14. We just finished one in the shop roughly fifty hours into it tandem tandem mixer plus 10 grand in parts not a nice situation!
  15. you can safely fill the primary filter!
  16. This statement could not be more true in my mind ! That being said.Volvo should now have the best of both worlds ! Over priced parts and a piece of junk to keep putting them on ! However! Don't think for one minute Paccar and the freightsaker /westernstar IHC makers Aren't Doing the same dam thing Its rampant thru out industry as a whole our economy relies on repeat business and waste ! So build a piece of junk , sell it and they will come back One way or the other they sell parts OR sell a new unit in 5 years or so Because the consumer gets tired of being in the shop having parts thrown at the stuff they bought! All in the Plan! Again its a no win for us the consumer, A semi win for them and a total loss to the environment because of all the waste! It does keep people employed I guess!๐Ÿ˜ฅ
  17. Also seen this happen this gets you possibly happy and they can sell this truck to someone that don't know any better! what ever works I guess! Usually comes with a keep you mouth shut stipulation I think!!๐Ÿค” The Mp8 is a some what better design in my mind however Don't expect good mileage with an allison! we have quite a few running here and are trouble free for the most part!Allison is a better choice for a dump configuration And almost any niny can drive it with out wrecking things! Leaves you open to letting your wife or girlfreind driving it for you while you sit home drinking beer! ๐Ÿ˜‰
  18. Exactly my thoughts!
  19. To bad they hadn't stole the syncro design as well ! How ever problems seem to be less prevalent on these its still there!
  20. If you ever had long distances of backing up to do you mack 12sp would run circles around the fuller or Mack 18 sp and get twice the work done in a day! Its a shame they discontinued it ! Dispite its sometimes ornery last gear split it was a good trany for many vocational job Applications !
  21. Another issue with the cylinder is there is a snap ring that can break inside the cylinder and cause this symptom you can do the oring job with out removing the lid from the back of the trans with the exception of the rail oring pay attention to the assembly as it is easy to get your head messed around to the way things are assembled!at least for me! :)Remove the four 3/8 by 4 bolts and remove things in order the end cap first the outside barrel being second then the outer piston theres two as you can see by Robs post!An inner and an outer! install the new orings on the pistons and if the snapring is broke replace it and reassemble!
  22. Brain fart on my part sorry ! You are correct of course the will not work
  23. AI use my thumb loosen the jam nut turn the adjuster in till it wonโ€™t move the with a screw driver or your thumb back it out one half turn then place your blade under the rocker turn the adjuster in till you got drag on the feeler then lock it with your 11/8 wrench and check the feel it can change as you tighten the jam nut! Adjust as nessary to get the right drag on the blade
  24. Same set as an late 80s e 9 with a v fuel pump 16 inlet and 24 exhaust set in firing order
  25. So what became of the RAPTOR version of these? Speaking of Hype!
