  1. Ya, I have a full set of vids from Lindsey.
  2. With the issues with 711's I'd probably just replace it. Does it have the big head bolts in the corners?? They had had gasket problems and the bigger bolts were to help hold it all together better. I can't say that the 711 had oil cooled pistons, so If you plan on running it hard I would again just replace the motor than try to turn it up. Good luck and WELCOME to BMT!
  3. There's a local fellow around Ohio that runs a super stock Fairlane wagon. 427/4 spd and it's known for it's wheelstand antics also, usually followed by smashed oil pans and shocks up thru the hood(from hard landings). I keep mine around 4-6inches and that's fine so far. It's all in the clutch and suspension and I'm fine tuning both. Ya, I'm a showboat'r with it, but I still win races. I took the Points championship of the local stick shift group running NE Ohio. Just today I got it all put back together and got it started(broke in the "new" neighbors nextdoor LOL!). Ahhhh, the sweet sound(and smell). Ok, sorry for the O/T............back to trucks...............
  4. Getting 4100 lbs to stand up on a 9" tire at all is a real feat! It's usually about there in third gear also(ya, it's a stick shift car). Been workin on suspension for last couple years and I'll let ya know when I get it up on the back bumper LOL!
  5. Ya, other than sitting outside for 40 yrs, the owners tried to keep it from being beat to death. Here's the most recent picture from last summer. Got a bit more shine to her now. Yup, the ol wagon runs a 428ci FE. Not much Ford left inside of it, but she's a run'r! Got a couple shots for ya.
  6. Canton, Ohio. Lima is over on the West side, right off Rt. 30. Follow 30 East over about 2.5 hrs to canton and that's me! If I recall correctly I have a racing friend that has a nephew over there taking mechanic classes.
  7. Sounds like my Triplex. Not always, but sometimes it gets a rattl'n noise that if I rest my hand on a shifter it goes away. Harmonics, I suppose? If the moon and sun are in perfect phase it's quiet.....but that ain't very often LOL! I got the rubber heater hose on mine also, but it don't do much. It might have something to do with the 1.9 million miles that's on it too? LOL!! (or something close to it)
  8. .........um..........that'd be me in that video. It's a triplex, but that don't matter much. It's really simple to do when you don't have any rpm to deal with. Those little diesels run like a gasser and you can flip thru the gears pretty easily with only 300 rpm drops. And lord knows I done ground all the burrs off when I first got the truck and didn't have a CLUE what I was doing LOL!!! (but don't tell anyone)
  9. Karl (aka Penguin) and I go back to college days at Stark Tech('bout 20 yrs now). Abel was a neighbor til I moved up towards the airport couple years back. His "new" Binder is just as perfect as that Mack was. Blows my mind how anyone can keep something that clean? Lord knows I try, but he drives his thru the crap everyday and still keeps it shiny. Tom Bonner went to Junior high with, but went separate ways in HS(he went to Mck). I'm sure we'll bump elbows someday.
  10. 36 mph!! Oh Lordy!!! If that was my top speed........I'd have to just walk to get there LOL!!! That would get me run over just driving thru my neighborhood!
  11. Ya, pretty much split each main with brownie. Or leave it alone in direct, then just use OD after you're in 5th? Whatever the situation needs, or uses. I usually skip along when I don't need them all.
  12. dendrill: That was probably MY trailer it was pulling? 40 ft black Haulmark enclosed gooseneck used for my race car. Hi Jeff. Yup, I get fuel over there next to Northstar. I'm sure you know "Hammer" aka Dick Abel and his old Gold mack? I know Leo Russo too, my buddy Karl(relative of Russo) drives cement truck for them. How about Tom Bonner? I know someone just about anywhere LOL!! Give me a holler sometime. Firemack: Nope, my race car is just an odd one, but not factory. It's a '64 Galaxie wagon as seen in my avatar. Bob: I don't think much anything PLASTIC will be around long. It will be a bunch of new PENS in 15 yrs LOL!! The ol truck has been pretty good to me so far and the owner is just tickled that I'm fixing it up. He never did because it was just a company truck that was going to get beat up anyway. I see the owner a few times a month and still hassle him about getting pics from back in the day. Someday I'll get to post something.
  13. Ya, I've spent a couple hours poking around in the junk a few years back. I went looking for a low air flag originally, which of course nothing left there had one. Pretty decent size yard of junk trucks, plus the large piles of cut offs and motors, tranny's. Then across the street is the field of "used" trucks(mostly fleet stuff) that they sell. Just about anything over there! If you think you might wander over this way...let me know!
  14. Glad to hear it's out moving under it's own power again! Come to think...that's about the ONLY line I haven't changed on mine yet either. Looks pretty old.........should change it before it lets go too!
  15. Adelmans is truck heaven. They're local to me(I'm in North Canton). They have fields of trucks and parts. Makes a nice day of junk'n if you like doing that.
  16. As it has come on the ATHS board............"Very Truckly" looking truck!!! I like it!!! If that don't scream "Bad to the bone" I don't know what could?
  17. Glad to hear it's home. Yup, put some grease on the throw out. Probably really dry from sitting. You'll find more leaks as you start to work it. Mine got a pinion leak after a couple trips around town. Here to find out the pinion nut was one notch loose(castle nut with cotterpin). I put a new seal in, tightened it one more notch and now 5 yrs it's been dry. Good luck!
  18. If I recall Bendix has nice diagrams showing common air line set ups. It should point you in the right direction. I always wonder exactly how Maxi's work. Yes, it takes air to release the park brakes, but when you push on the pedal it applies air to service brakes.....but does it basically push against the air holding the park brake off? I know there are a few air valves(quick release and such) that enter into the system but have never really undertood it clearly.
  19. My double reduction front load is 4.62 and runs 65 with single over triplex. You could get away with low 5. ratio with double over box and get 65 mph. I"ve heard of 4.00 to 9.20 ratios available. You need to get the govenor up to 2100 first, then deal with gear ratio. I run my 673 on the govenor all day without a problem. Pretty much hold it to the floor and go. Very rarely do I get it off the floor or I'll be doing 50 mph in no time and be run over by traffic How heavy is your friend? maybe that is why he can't get road speed, not enough power to pull it? At 26,000 lbs I'm able to hold 60-62 on level ground(on the floor).
  20. In response to what I would assume the thought at Mack would be.............."We make NEW trucks, why should we keep making parts for "old" trucks." It's the same all over, not just with trucks. They'll support stuff for a few years then off to "NLA" land cause they want you to buy a NEW truck. Not too many people can afford to do that, but they make them new trucks everyday anyway. I've only bought 2 new vehicles in my life, but they've come/gone and now I'm back to old stuff. Until the last rusty part is gone I'll keep my stuff going. I've finally got the local Mack parts guy to stop laughing when I come in and ask for something and tell them it's going on a B model.
  21. Crazy thing............mine has the same mindset. Usually a couple times a summer it goes "click" for no reason. After the second year of it I pulled starter and had them recheck it for bad spot. Nothing wrong with it so I put it back in. It's done it again, but never a real problem. Usually a couple pushes on the button brings it to life. It's all new, so I know it's not a connection or wear issue. I look at it as........"it still starts and gets me there after near 50 yrs"........so I don't complain much.
  22. Mines not daily, but every weekend it's out doing it's thing! Be it 50 miles or 500 it's running down the highway pulling my trailer to the races.
  23. If you are changing over from Series/Parallel, then there isn't too much to worry about. I did this to my truck also. You'll put the 12v batteries in the boxes, run the two BIG cables up to the starter direct from batteries. A small FORD style solenoid will then be used to actuate the starter. I mounted mine up where s/p switch was and used the wire from starter button(on dash) to activate it. You will run a #10 ga. size wire from 12v POSITIVE at starter, back to solenoid, then from solenoid back to big solenoid ON the starter. You push button on dash which activates little FORD soleniod, thus providing 12v to starter soleniod, thus activating starter. Pretty simple once you get the jist of it. Good luck
  24. Hopefully, like Speed mentioned, the tag will still be on the dash with shift pattern. The "tester" should give you some slack if you mention you've never driven this tranny before. Don't grind all the teeth off and you'll be okay!
