  1. Giant Eagle/OK Grocery used to run U models identical to that. They switched to Volvo in the mid-90's.
  2. Norfolk just gained a few spots on my bucket list. In fact, I'll heading out there as soon as I'm done typing thi...
  3. I gotta hand it to you, Vinny. You're handling photos like this a lot better these days.
  4. Beautiful work. Not to sound cliché, but it really does look like new.
  5. The Enviro Waste R-700 is fan-****ing-tastic!!
  6. That's a shame. An axle-forward Pinnacle hooked to one of their trailers would be quite a sight.
  7. The question was easier to answer back then. One would be hard pressed to come up with 17 pages worth of reasons today, Sorry for the buzzkill, but seeing the old logo reading an article from a time when a Mack was a Mack brings it out in me. As always, thanks for posting your literature for all to see.
  8. I'm curious how a properly spec'd 6x2 would compare to a "live" tandem in various situations where traction is lost. We had some CH's at work that were equipped with automatic power dividers? (I'm not sure what Mack called them, but the axles were live but had no activation switch.) Anyhow, the system had stopped working on a few of them and the trucks were now getting stuck in situations where a single axle would not have even spun a tire.
  9. Nice pics. Norfolk is one of those places I'd like to spend a day at, seeing the sights, but prolly never will. Good to see a Moran tugboat. I think that company is older than dirt. The corner protector riding all the way to Lynchburg speaks volumes for your driving skills. I would've lost at the first downgrindshift.
  10. Ahh yes, Wetson's. The BK in Syosset was one of the first I'd ever seen. There was also a Wetson's on Old Country Rd @ Levittown Pkwy in Hicksville, which was our local store. The Burger King I was referring to was a distribution center. It was set pretty far back off Robbins Lane and it's property bordered the LIE and the LIRR tracks. The distributor was named Disttron and they ran Ryder equipment-IH Transtar sleepers and Great Reefers, IIRC. The warehouse is still there but occupied by another business.
  11. Is LP transportation still around? They ran R model sleepers which were a common sight back then.
  12. The drop in horsepower fits on a graph only 4 bars wide. Ahh, the good old days! As always great info and thanks for sharing. Detailed brochures such as this give a good understanding of what driver's had to work with years ago.
  13. Nice find, thanks for sharing! There's a splitter joke in there somewhere.
  14. Here's a Road Boss brochure from '73. I liked the brown padded interiors that were offered with many of the models that used this cab. http://public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thscale/truck_brochures/white/white_road_boss_1973/
  15. Replace "insidious" with "conspicuous" and I'd say he nailed it.
  16. I prolly can't afford the brochure for this one either.
  17. That's the Cerro Wire water tower on the right! (but it looks like it says something else). IIRC the name was lit up in orange neon at night, in plain view (not to be confused with nearby Plainview) from the L.I.E. Just another memory from my childhood that I'll never forget, probably because I looked at it 1000 times or more. To the left of where the photographer is standing was a Burger King DC in the 70's and 80's. And to conclude my non-Mack related reply, I think that's a '59-'60 Caddy at the curb, but it's hard to tell.
  18. I think he's referring to the back part of the fenders.
  19. No, but I think we're on thin ice as a result of what some of us consider to be wimmin. A certain blonde holding a birthday cake comes to mind, although I find her somewhat attractive.
  20. I'll keep quiet but it's going to cost you $224.25 each for every brochure, pamphlet, and.......Chinese restaurant menu in your collection.
  21. Overdrive had an article on Movin' On in the January 1975 issue. There's also a report on the then-new Cruiseliner. http://public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thscale/truck_magazines/truck-and-trucking-/1975-overdrive-magazine/01-overdrive-magazi/
  22. Road tractor brochure from 1973. http://public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thscale/truck_brochures/fwd/fwd-light-weight-tr/
