That's exactly where I learned most of what I know. My Dad worked as a driver and sometime service man and I would go to work with him to ride in the truck but would have to hang out in the shop afterwards. They had a Chilton's book that had covered (I believe) '61-'71 and had an actual photo of every American made front end for those years, it even broke it down by trim level, i.e. Ford Custom, Galaxie 500, LTD etc. I could spend hours thumbing through that book and never get bored. Funny you mentioned turn signals. Those books were awesome for helping differentiate between the ones that only had front turn signal changes, such as the mid and full size '71-'72 Chevy's.

Good to hear your up and running again, Tom. With your POTW not being as time consuming with your computer working, you might find a few minutes to stop and help a damsel in distress. They are not properly dressed for spending too much time in the nipply weather.

Nice article! The mirrors look as if they came from a sedan. The map lights would've been a nice feature to carry over to the R models. It's difficult for a right-hander to see what they are writing when the only light is in the center of the ceiling.

Nothing wrong with being resourceful. That's more 4-wheelin' than a lotta 4WD's will do in their lifetime.

I'll bet their shops were never slow with 10,000 mile PM's! It's hard to see in these pics but the roof fairings on U models were mounted to be centered on the trailer which made the offset cab that much more obvious. Thanks for posting these old articles from Bulldog, Al. They make for some fun reading.
