  1. Ron I also remember seeing those units. I think Averett had some also. on I 35 going to Laredo. Defineately were used for the auto industry, but no idea which light bulky parts? Brocky
  2. 1971 Brockway 358LL long 235"(?) wheelbase, double frame, with no rust jacking, with 22 foot of frame behind cab which is in decent shape, 504 V-8 Cummins not running, Spicer 5 x 4, deep reduction rears, on Hendrickson suspension, 10:00 - 20 rubber, and power steering. Also have two 555 V-8 Cummins, one with a supposedly broken crank and a RT 613 tranny attached, Extra 75 gal fuel tank, ten 22.5 steel rims, and 2 extra fenders in good shape. Then I have a box of 2 NOS chrome side dogs, 3 Brockway script, 2 Diesel script, 1 NOS gold dog, 1 replated gold dog, 2 NOS tinted corner windows and enough new windshield rubber to do the entire windshield, 2 black rubber script mud flaps, 2 white with red Logo thick plastic mud flaps. Would like to sell the whole package for $2950 / OBO. Please contact me at brocky45@prtcnet.com or call me at 864-677-3453 and I can gladly send you many more pictures. Robert "Brocky" Brock
  3. Dumb Question?? Would'nt it be easyer to just swap the whole axle on the U-bolts???
  4. Maddog Yes that is the "stick Mixer". Dean Baldwin sold it to a man with the user name (on the Brockway forum) Stretch from Canastota NY. This last winter he replaced to original black steel body with this aluminum one. The original name "Stick Mixer" was on the front of the overhead over the cab and I do not recall seeing a picture of the new body to see if Stretch moved the name to the new body?? The picture Mark posted was taken last year in front of the Museum in Cortland at the Friday night fireworks show. Brocky
  5. Check the air supply filter. If it is plugged up, it will create a vacuum in the compressor which would draw oil up around the rings.
  6. Here is a Mack big brother still in service.
  7. Mark There are also some more pictures of it by Jeff Lakaszcyck on www.forums.justoldtrucks.com // Peter J's Place // Whose going to Macungie topic back a page from the front and on pages 6 & 7 of the topoic. Jeff also posted an email he got from the owner and a picture of it in its working days. Hope this helps Brocky
  8. My wife and I went thru the museum on our way to Yakima. An excellent facility with about 60 (+/-) trucks. Well worth the time spent.. Hopefully in the next couple of years we will make it back up to the Jamboree with my DT 201.
  9. Double clutching.docJTF Here is another "double clutchin" article I wrote for another news letter. Hope it helps a little. Brocky
  10. The Ford Factory came out with the T-800 tandem drive in 1954. Before that all Ford 10 wheelers were an aftermarket Tag/pusher axle either installed by a dealer or conversion shop, although I believe you could order the longer frame from Ford to mount it on? From the late 20's on there were several companys who made aftermarket tandem drive conversions. Mr. Don Chew of Littleton Colo is the expert on them. He writes articles about them in Shirley Spoonholtz's magazine Old Time Trucks. If you have a serious inquery PM/Email me and I will send you his snail mail addy as he does not have a computer.
  11. Interesting engineering to get it put together, BUT that is about all I can say about it. Brocky
  12. Here are 2 late 70's Brockways still in service. Granted they are smaller towns/villages so are not called out that often.
  13. Also the oppisite of what Hat City said. If the trailer is TOO HIGH you will have to crank it down till it touches the fifth wheel.. If not the trailer pin will slide all the way over and past the fifth wheel, and if you go too far the glad hands will be in the back of the cab. Then you have fun getting it back over ther 5th wheel. Brocky
  14. Another source for rubber products is www.diamondtrubber.com Mr Gib Epling Caldwell Ohio 43724 740-732-6056 They started as Diamond T and have expanded to Federal, Mack, and some others. If you have the old part they can make you a new one for almost everything. Brocky
  15. JT Congratulation on your find and purchase. Looks like truck you can enjoy without a lot of time and money up front.. Brocky
  16. Larry You just learned what we discussed on another topic a while ago. NEVER TRUST A GPS!!!! or for that matter Mapquest or other computer generated mapping systems. Remeber that the Geeks who put the information into the computer probably have never driven a car, let alone a big truck, off the interstate and their local city streets. Go to Wally World and pay $6 for a Raqnd McNally road atlas then double check your computer generated routing against what it looks like on the map, and then look at alternatives. After the interesting "scenic tour" I hope that you had a good racing weekend. Brocky
  17. Which cylindar are you asking about?? All the above answers are for the added on horizontal one. If you are asking about the vertical one in front of it, that would be a power steering resevoir.
  18. There were 115 trucks and 58 farm tractors registered. A great show with nice weather and a sunburned face.
  19. I have found it is easier to shift without the clutch with the old mechanical engines, especially at higher speeds, than the new electronic ones. Like Larry I do it by ear and feel and with the electronics you just do not feel the pump with your right toe. brocky
  20. I have always liked my Yuengling. Usta have to haul it south from my daughters, now I can buy it in SC..
  21. I wonder if that State of NY dump truck is a Brockway??? Looks like their EPA got started before it was "politically correct" Thanks for sharing the pictures, please keep them comming.
  22. I have been doing it on everything, when I use the clutch, for 50 plus years so it is just an automatic action for my left leg. Attached is an article i wrote for one of the truck club newsletters Brocky Double clutching.doc
