catering trucks can be the best,,,ive had many of them,,,,that thing looks amazing ,,,i usually order beef and rice..bob

This is true! I remember back when they were commonly referred to as "the roach coach", and some deservingly so, because they had just crappy overpriced food. But when you were a truck driver, stuck at some job site for who knows how long you didn't have any choice, you either bought some crappy overpriced sammich or went hungry. But over time they have gotten waaaay better, and I've had some absolutely fantastic food from the food trucks.

That job site was up near Frederick, MD. somewhere I think. They were building a new school but it's probably finished by now because it was about 7 or 8 years ago, so that food truck is probably someplace else by now.

30- 40 years ago ( holy shit I'm getting old) there was a roach coach on every construction job I  was on and even at the car dealer I  used to work at. Now they have completely disappeared and you need to to go searching  for lunch. I miss them.

Maybe regulated out of binness. I told a good friend of mine who used to drive, but he had to give it up due to health issues, that a food truck would be perfect for him. He had a pizza place in Reynoldsville, Pa. for a while too, but sold it. And he said he had considered it, but they have to pass all the same inspections that a restaurant does, and you had to have all kinds of permits, and it was more hassle than it was worth. I guess that's good, it's just a lot more to it than I ever thought, at least in Pa.

I thought you could just make 15 sausage bistits, 21 bacon bistits, 23 sausage and egg, 19 bacon and egg, and go sell 'em. Then come home and make 39 cheeseburgers and 28 hamburgers and go sell them at lunch time, but apparently it doesn't quite work like that.

I never saw a hot food truck until I moved to LA. They were all coffee trucks back there and all they had was cold sandwiches and beverages and coffee.

Its still in place. Its a slow process because it's the City, and the DMV here is so crappy, that it takes up to 3 months to get a permit test. We have 1 guy with an 'A' permit, and i have 2 guys due to test. May 28+ June 10...  I did take one guy on the job site and showed him some stuff, but we need a real training session with our tractor trailer..

No, mine was a comment on the gray button.

I don’t think anybody got it. I don’t know what the gray button is for. I did drive a transmission and a Volvo white years and years ago had two switches. It wasn’t a 13. I think it was a 12 and you could not shift  it without using a clutch air operated switch would not shift the gears unless the clutch was depressed I’m sure some of you knew which one I’m talking about Maybe that’s the one you had Tom

Bob, I think(??) you might be speaking of the Spicer 12 speed??? The one I drove had a manual clutch and you had to shift the lever thru neutral in ever shift.

Brocky

Dont know if it was availible in the US or OZ but the very best gearbox Iv ever used ( from a drivers point of view ) was a ZF 16 speed Econosplit.4 hi 4 low and split on each gear.Smooth easy to use and always a gear for every situation...and could be floated in the main gears but required the clutch for splits.Great gearbox.....

ya i think that was it,,,,i was test driving this thing,my boss at the time was thinking about buying it,,,dealership allowed us to try it on a 600 mile trip,,,,i told the boss i really liked it but the transmission was wierd,,,he changed his mind and didnt buy it,,,thanks for that

and tom thanks for that,,,,i do remember hearing about them atleast a few years ago it seems there was quite a few of them out there,,listening to CB chatter.but ive never drove one..bob,,,,half a gear on the bottom thats very interesting,,bob

Here is an old Spicer book in pdf form, page 8 and 9, and it says you don't move the stick through neutral when making "splitter shifts". which just the way I remember it, so not sure what transmission you are talking about?

There was a single countershaft "married box with an external shift cyl, Before my time, but I think it might have been a Fuller, and may have required moving the stick.

One of Spicer's selling points was "from standstill to top speed with only 5 moves of the stick".

I think you’re getting confused. We were talking about two different transmissions me and Brocky we’re talking about a 12 speed. That’s the only one I’ve ever seen or heard of it was kind of a fun challenge to shift  this thing but yes, you definitely needed the clutch to move the air switches.bob
