j hancock
You may want to check NY for 80,000 lbs plus loads off the island. Maybe you already have? It seems like they prefer Throggs Neck for heavy trucks.http://web.mta.info/bandt/traffic/trucker.html Quote JimIt doesn't cost anything to pay attention. lucerne tractor
Looks like 495 to 295 across the Throggs neck to 95 north, NY your going to have escorts and cops involved, and then you have to deal with Ct., they love oversize. We usually go around Ct. going north or south of NY and CT, 81 to 84 to 87 to 90 to 495 to 95 just because Ct. dot, watch their axle laws they have their own. Bid high, real high, no one likes to go into NY.
mike69mackman
Randy the most direct way is 95 across the gw bridge follow signs for throgs neck bridge cross bridge follow to 495. I would not come in the bottom( 278-495) not being 80 feet. Hope you got lots of money it's gonna cost ya.
2stacksuperdog
5 axle truck over GW was $40+ a couple years ago.Looks like 495 to 295 across the Throggs neck to 95 north, NY your going to have escorts and cops involved, and then you have to deal with Ct., they love oversize. Lmackattack
I came out of long island heading thry queens and exiting ny from the south went across a toll bridge that was $70 some dollars.....wtf...My best advice is if you can....go thru ny city at night...you think Chicago is bad in the day time......ha ha......I can't wait to hear your story on this run...the gw bridge is pot hole hell on the east side.... No where to park.... Just get thru it at night and hopefully get out a different way.....good luck!

1958 F.W.D.
Just talked to dumbass slpwlkr, and he isnt going to Wrong Island- he's going to Maspeth, Queens. The address of his pickup is 53-20 44th Street, which is right in the shadow of the clover leaf of the BQE and the LIE. He's in Decatur, Illinois right now (2154 Tues night.) I advised him that taking I-80 in to the GW and dropping down was just as bad as as I-78 and up through the Outerbridge or Goethals and across Staten Island through Bklyn. However as he has to be there Thursday AM to load thursday during the day, taking the I-78 route in has the benefit of staying at a hotel in Allentown he knows has parking and takes pets- and also is located close by that asshole 1958 FWD's house where he can go mooch dinner and maybe take the FWD for a spin.......If he leaves the hotel in Allentown no later than 0430 or 0500 he should be able to make that address by 0800-1000 even in traffic. No matter how he does it, he's gonna hit traffic, and from the google maps view of the address it doesn't look like the greatest of hoods- so he's prolly better off staying out this way Weds night. All the truckstops on 80 and 78 in Jersey fill up at night. Quote TWO STROKES ARE FOR GARDEN TOOLS

Lmackattack
I went into queens last year with a 53' freight trailer...it sucks......seams every one from NYC thinks its normal to drive a big truck into streets made for horse and wagons?.....after my adventure i would bet that 90% of NYC would make a 30' trailer a pita to get around....Good luck that area looks just as tight as the place I went into.....oh man.....this will not be a good day for you.... 1958 F.W.D.
Why would I need to go into CT?The vast majority of every idiot 4-wheeler in the known universe (and non-operator big trucks too) that is going to Ct, Mass, Etc. uses I-95 by way of the GW Bridge, which is also one of two main routes onto Wrong Island. When every aforementioned schmuck uses said route, it tends to get a wee bit clogged. Therefore many of us "brighter" or "sharper" folk tend to favor I-287 up across the Throgs Neck Bridge into Ct, and then drop back down. The added mileage greatly makes up for the massive amount of lost time and wear and tear on your left knee.
