What is the most unusual engine Mack installed in their trucks?

I'll start it:

I had a Cruiseliner with a 3208 Cat and Allison transmission combo it was a good looking truck,Black exterior, Aluminum wheels, Alum fuel tanks butonce you started the engine it was always good for one thing, and that one thing was a conversation piece and a source of bewilderment from Mack enthusiasts.

I think one of the most rare, has to be the Allis-Chalmers powered FL cabovers.I guess A-C had a fleet of them for parts/manufacturing distribution.

The 450 horsepower 13.8 liter "Big Al" engine was an impressive offering, and Allis-Chalmers engines were indeed an available Mack factory option for a time. I have a little info on them.

Did Mack buy FL?

FW

No, but they used to build a Mack Western cabover called the FL/FS,that could be ordered with the "Big Al" in it. Sorry, if you thought I meant FruitLiner :icon_bs:

There was part of one on Ebay a few years ago,I had saved pics and the serial # but they got lost a couple computer crashes ago.It was rough, said to run,cut off behind fuel tanks.

Yes that 's what I thought. Don't know exactly when but around the early 70's Fiat bought out, or merged with Allis Chalmers, I think their focus was on construction equipment. Buda diesels made it to a small part of the truck market.

I have a Buda diesel power unit; inline 6 about 900+ cid.

"big Al" and "Alice", that's cool.

I think the gas-turbine engines were put in a superliner and a cruiseliner. The Cruiseliner was on display last summer when I was there in June for the Macgunie Show. I was always told you could order any power/drivetrain combo would want ie all mack(gas/diesel/trans/suspension/rears), Detriot, Cummins,Cat, and A/C. Roadrangers and Allison transmissions. Eaton or Rockwell rears. Reyco and Neway supsensions.... It was all how you and your salesman spec'd the truck.

I saw a gasser R model a long time ago. It seemed like the valve covers barely made it to the top of the frame rails! Maybe a little more but not much.

With the brochures posted, it must have been a R410 because the engine was a Mopar 413 CID.

I don't remember actually looking at the door for the model number or the door may have been gone.

What was the r model with the hemi? Thought that looked so small in that big hood..

R410 413 wedge head, Doug Maney owns a very nice one.
