Popular Post RFCDrum Posted March 3, 2013 Popular Post Share Posted March 3, 2013 Some pics of the tri axle I drove for Joe. 01 RD688SX 460, had originally the 2110B 10 speed with shiftable reverse, second trans I loathed. This was the trans that Mack came out with for a little while to replace the 12 speed. Piece of crap. Was too high geared in 1st and 1st reverse. Later on they came out with the 10 speed east shift which I think is a little better. Joe put a T318 in her which changed the whole truck. This was originally a Sanchez truck. It has 52 rears, 20 on tag and 18 front. Joe put 425's on front and tag and 12r's on rears. Also couldn't keep synchros in her no matter how you drove her so the change to the 18 was the way to go. We would do a lot of work for James Construction out of Oakland NJ and we were constantly on site and you never had a problem with our RD's with big rears and big rubber, Bristol Donalds and triple piston hoists. Never really had to worry about dumping on angles too much. If you did get stuck you were really stuck like up to the pumpkins or down on one side but not that often not like the specs of trucks now with lighter rears and tubeless rubber. It used to be red and green. Beautiful truck, 52 rears, 400, 8LL, 18 front, 20 on tag. He put 425's on front and 12r24,5 on rears. This job was at night in Tarrytown NY back in December a few years ago for Conserv. The paver was the Haisidic from Monroe Moulton Paving. It was 21 degrees out. He was bitching the asphalt was lumpy. Really? We were running from Stone Industries in Haledon NJ up there. We had a 1:30 AM start at their drum plant. Lots of time to polish wheels on this one. We get to the job and sit for another 2 hours before we would unload. And they bitched about cols asphalt. The job had to be redone in the Spring.
