Saw these Yesterday

Recommended Posts

Had to run to Des Moines yesterday,in no hurry for a change so I cut across country on the way home to check on some old trucks I used to see before the 4 lane went in.They aren't in use anymore, but still there. The B61 wrecker and R795(it's a straight R with a Western grille) wrecker were his front line units before hydraulics and wheel lifts took over. The tractor has a Unishift trans.post-61-0-27855700-1331086206_thumb.jpgpost-61-0-79797300-1331086254_thumb.jpgpost-61-0-59265000-1331086316_thumb.jpg

Looks like the headlite panels are too long to be a western hood. Ron

My take also but thought I was elongating them with my bad eyesight.

what is a unishift?

It was a Mack built duplex transmission used behind diesel engines that used a single gearshift handle and an air cylinder to shift the compound gearing.

You could get them on E and A models as either a Unishift which shifted by air or a monoshift which shited by vaccum same tranny.Bob D

Yessir. Air from the diesels air compressor, or vacuum from the gasoline engine's manifold vacuum.
