Hard to believe those prices, wonder what a Pittsburgh to Chicago run paid then. I remember when I was a kid hearing the old man say if he could get 5 thousand a year we'd have it made. That was around 1959 when he was working the open hearth at Weirton Steel.

At about that time I worked pumping gas five and a half days a week for $21.00 a week

I remember as a kid my Mom would get the Sears Catalog every year, just last week I saw on TV that Sears was in trouble, so the TV guy was askin shoppers about there thoughts and just about all of the Sears shoppers said the same thing......Years ago you could depend on a Sears product, like there power tools as well as there work benches and hand tools an tool boxs, but today it's all made in China and it is real shit! Even some of there Craftsman tools are now made in China

My little snowblower is also a "Montgomery Ward" unit. It's not been used in several years but I'd bet it wouldn't take much to make it operational.

My blower is a Jacobson(late 60's-early 70's), the original 2 stroke engine had issues so bought a 3.5 briggs for it. Bald hard rubber tires, but that thing will cut through ROCK. My neighbors were always amazed at the crap that thing would dig through(ie: that frozen crusty piles the city plows leave at the bottom of your drive). The new plastic versions, with rubber flapper wheels won't move dry sand on a windy day.

Dont have much need for a snowblower round here, wish they would invent sumpin to blow red dirt though, then pile it and smooth it and pack it. I remember as a kid, always looked forward to the new Sears and Roebuck catalog, specially the Christmas edition. I guess my first shot at porn was the Bra section. Ah, good times! randyp

I'll put up a picture of mine later,I know it's no match for the monsters they make today but it does work pretty good for a 50 or so year old snow blower..

Mine is brown and white with either a 3.0, or 3.5 horse Briggs & Stratton engine. I know it is from the late 1960's to early 1970's.

I was wondering the same thing! My youngest son got a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas this year. We already had to take it away - he got to shooting the chickens.

We had a few stores on the east coast as well, W.T. Grants,Two Guys,Jamesway etc. i still have corded drill from Grants, prolly 50 years old, that works like a champ! we always looked forward to the Sears catalog too,it was a great big thing back then! last i saw a "print" catalog,it was maybe 20 pages long, with next to nothing usefull in it. The closest Sears to us growing up is the oldest one in Jersey, and is still in existance,i had a childhood friend who's father started working there in 1947,and just recently retired! they had a "kenmore" refridgerator with a "forever" warranty on it,that Sears had a shit-fit when they has to replace it for free a year or two ago!...........................P.S. bet Bullhusk remembers Two Guys!.................Mark

"Hippee's"........(AKA Higbee's, kinda like Monkey Ward) is likely just a NE Ohio thing?? We had one here in Canton(hour south of Cleveland) but they are gone now. Out of the two big original malls here, JC Pennys and Sears are the only two left that are still open AND in their original stores. Mellet Mall, which is now Canton Centre is basically a Wally World. They tore most of the mall down and replaced it with mini strip plazas. Mellet was the first "BIG" deal back in early 70's. The open courtyard was soon closed in for year around use. Belden Village grew up in the north end of town in late 70's and has been the reason for the other mall closing up. BV was built on a swamp area and turned into a mega metropolis!

The Christmas story house is a big attraction and you can do the whole tour thing, a friend did a few years ago.

I need to look in my toolbox, I think I still have a Monkey ward jig saw? Hmmmm.

We had a Brown shoe factory here in Fulton where half the town worked - long gone. Now the factory makes bullet proof vests, at least it is open.

Those were good american made shoes, I went in Penny's the other day to price some loafers and they were all junk - bring back the buster browns.

If they ever stop making my style of red wing boots and Filson clothes in the USA I am going to just go naked.

But I promised to be a good boy and not post any more naked pics of me on here, so don't worry.
