  1. I think you're right the GK should be in the VIN on a glider we have 2 that are gliders and both of ours have GK in the VIN. Both of ours if you run the VIN through Mack show a build date of 85 but one is titled as an 89 and the other a 90. This 86 we're talking about could very well be a glider, it's possible someone bought a new Superliner 1 glider in 86 and glidered an old truck into it.
  2. If the steering box is mounted on the axle beam it's a Superliner 1 it must be78 thru early 84 model. If that truck has been parked for 4 years and has only sat around and idled once in a blue moon that is why you would be wet around the manifold it's loaded up with fuel. It probably needs a good load behind it and work it to clean it out. V8s don't like to sit around idling. Probably has the Ambac V- type pump. Nature of the beast to give a good puff of black smoke if you crack the throttle.
  3. On Discovery Channel. I watch religiously every week. I'm curious to see there new Mack, and what they think of it. They seem to be old Mack guys, looks like they have quite a few E9 powered ones. I wonder if the Titan will stack up to one of them. Last week on the show Lester Duby granaded the clutch and tranny in the Western Star he drives so the gave him one of the spare Macks. It sounded like it had an E9 in it. I think I would of kept it over the Western Star.
  4. CH613 cab is the same as a CH600 cab. I think the difference between the two models is the frame 600 is a 1/4" single rail and 613 is two 1/4" rails. Cabs should be the same.
  5. My Dad had that name on the door of his Superliner for a little over a year. He peeled it off about 2yrs ago and just parked the truck , not enough local work down here then and the 6 axle dump trailer rates running down east for them just plain sucked, wouldn't barely cover fuel or maintainance let alone wages. His buddy down here is still on with them though, maybe things have improved a little, I see he has a different tractor now.

  9. I was just looking at a Drott 50 to keep my dad occupied, just for cleaning line dithes for farmers and small low budjet private excavating jobs. He and my grandpa used to be in the excavating bussiness together for years, they had a Case 880 excavator that they bought new in 76 that grandpa used to run. It was a good little machine and was still like new when grandpa sold it about 20 years ago. Dad and I have been thinking about buying a machine for a while since dad quit trucking a couple years ago and I found one a couple hrs away so we were just wondering if you can still get parts for them, before we get too serious. Dad would like to get another dragline, but we thought we better start out with a hydraulic machine first, figure it might be easier to find work for it, he used to have a Bucyrus Erie 30B, and he wishes alot of days that he had never sold it or the Case excavator.
  10. Sounds like it could possibly be a sticking valve in your steering box. Rough winter roads and sharp bumps will flip o-rings out of place that would make you steering tighten up going down the road requiring a bit of a reef of the steering wheel to make it turn, but once you turn it's ok till you go to turn again. Winter frost heeves an holes can be murder on steering boxes. Your dealer should come good for that if you just bought the truck.

  12. While were on the topic of stupid gov people. The other day here in Ontario, Can. the 3month grace period was taken off our cell phone ban in vehicles. I'm fine with that, because I see far too many on the road talking or texting while driving,I agree that hand held cell phones are very distracting to drivers and I too have on occasion answered phone calls when driving,so i'm guilty of the crime too, but don't dial a call unless I'm parked. The police on the other hand are exempted from this law, Why are they? And they say within a couple years they will also ban 2 way radios and CBs in trucks. How stupid is that, Truckers have been talking on CB radios for years, it's never been a problem before. Another thing that bothers me her is our laws on alcohol and driving. Last week one of our other drivers at work got his license suspened for 3 days. All he did was went to the city to get a friend at 1am who called him for a ride home because he had too much. This guy gets out of bed at 1 in the morning to do a favor goes into town has one beer in an hours time and proceeds to drive his buddy home when he runs into a spot check. He blows the breathalizer and blows an A which is a warning. The cops take his licence, but do not impound his pickup so he gets it towed to his home. He then has to go to the licence bureau 3 days later and pay a $150 reinstatement fee and now has this on his record and fears his insurance will skyrocket, and our company insurance will find out and he may loose his job over it. I feel more and more like I live in a comunist country everyday.
  13. Here in Ontario the truck driver,and the loader operator is also liable for a fine as well as the person operating the scale at the pit for over loads if they let you go out over weight. Air ride with pressure gauges sure makes it easier to guess you weight or even know you're loaded properly though.

That almost sounds like the accident that happened close to where I live last spring. 16 or 17 yr old kid with a learners permit with his father in th pickup with him, was passing a row of cars while going uphill on a double solid center line, hits an oncoming tractor trailer head on. The kid and his dad are injured in the crash, but survive. The 45 yr old truckdriver gets incinerated alive in the truck. the kid gets off with only a careless driving fine, and the Windsor Star newspaper writes a big sob story feeling sorry for the stupid kid and his dad with pictures showing the crash scene that show him at fault, and the stupid public feels sorry for him. I know tha we are all human, we all make mistakes, and no one is immuned to an accident, but why feel sorry for him and mention little about the truck driver who was just out ther doing his job, he's the one that paid the price. He's not coming back. If it were my choice that kid and his dad would be getting jail time out of it at the least, after all the kids dad is just as much to blame for it as the kid is.
  15. I was looking for an oil pump for the 866 I had about 5 yrs ago, and new ones were no where to be found. I got a re manufactured one from Northwest Truck in Edmonton Alberta Can. Pretty expensive, It cost me around $1000 then. Last time I talked to them out there the 866 archives were getting to be slimmer pickin, you might want to call and see. 1-800-665-9248 ask for Harold thats who I always dealt with he's pretty knowledgable with older Mack engines.
  16. Age don't mean nothing to a good carrier. I'd rather have an old piece of equiptment that's well maintained than a new one that isn't maintained. The guy seems pretty high on the price of that truck though.

  18. And his E-9s pull up that hill pretty good too. I never noticed the hood scoop on the black CL when I've seen it up there. He runs a set of double snorkle type scoops like the aussies do on his white Superliner. I was thinking of putting a hood scoop on my Superliner just to be different since mine has an under hood air cleaner on it. Maybe I'll try that part# and price one out.

  20. 6oo Hp with that box on it that thing must motor along with a load in it just like it does empty. Up here where I'm at I'd have a big pup trailer hooked behind it, that would be great gravel hauler.
  21. Good buy on the CH, you can't go wrong with that. What's in it for power, Mechanical or Electronic. I really like your superliner, it looks very sharp.
  22. You could have a cracked or pitted liner due to electrolasis. Can't you get a remaned head from mack? I prced them a couple of years ago and they were available, a bit expensive though.
  23. The largest engine in an R model would probably have been the ENDT866 Cubic Inch V8 at 375 HP. I'm not sure but I'm going to say it was produced between 1974 and 1978 or 79 time period.
  24. Yeah I'd say price is definitly a problem. I don't know exactly what kind of a job a fella would have to have it on for it to pay for itself. There's nothing wrong with a good cabover though, I'd take one in a heartbeat. I'd have to say you've missed something if you have'nt had the opportunity to drive one at some point in you trucking career. I'd have to say if I had to go with a european cabover I'd take a Scania with a V8, I'm kinda partial to V8's.
