  1. If it's sat for that long prime the oil system before starting it or you could end up seizing a bearing in the turbo or spinning a rod or main bearing.
  2. Nope forget about roadside hose repairs on one of those. Your waterpump impeller core assembly will pull right off the block once you've removed the housing. Pull it right out it's on a shaft with a moulded gear, you've got a square silicone O-ring recessed in th block to keep oil in behind it. I always exchanged mine for a remaned assembly which are'nt handy to get. You can take it apart on the bench if you want. You should be able to get a seal for it somewhere. It only has a roll pin through the impeller and shaft right at the tip, then the impeller should pull off with a puller like a harmonic balancer puller, be carefull not to break it. All 866's have two thermostats.
  3. It seems like there's been more Ontarians pop out of the woodwork recently than there has in the last 3 yrs I've been coming on here. It's good to have a few more of us. Welcome johndrca, Do you sell Mack trucks at the Mack dealer by the 410 & Derry Rd in Mississauga or do you work at another place?
  4. Did'nt Autocar and Western Star use the same cab?
  5. I added a fan on the dash on mine it worked for me.
  6. Welcome to BMT Corey. You should find anything you might need here, Good luck with your project.
  7. Have'nt heard from you for a day or two. How does it pull now?
  8. Yes she was, but she was a blonde.
  9. Yeah I've heard that it's dramatized to make it more interesting to the tv public. I talked to a guy a couple summers ago that had worked up there for a number of years and he told me the same thing. I get a chuckle out of a few of the mechanical problems they have encountered, e.g frozen air lines or valves seeing them pouring methal hydrate in both the red and blue air lines, any time I have seen some one pour anything in the blue service line they only move until they step on the brake once and that's where they stay because the top of the valve is full of methal hydrate. This past season there was a girl driver on the show and the trailer brake shoes were frozen to the drums, she beat the tar out of the dust covers an beat them all to heck. Someone off camera must have pounded on the drums or camshafts to free them for her. Another time she had air pissing out of a valve, so she got another driver to jam a plug in it , and would'nt you know it worked and didn't blow out when she used the brakes, the fact that they would even release after being applied puzzles me. Only on tv. I would'nt mind giving the Ice road thing a try for a season, if I could last that long, just so I could add it to my trucking career scrapbook, but there are lots of guys like me out there. LOL. Question about your superliner, What's in it for power? I also have a superliner I'm in the process of restoring, mines an 89 with an E9. If I ever get it finished I know i'll get the itch to find something for it to do.
  10. Good choice, I bet there were quit a few around Michigan in the day pulling Michigan doubles. My favorite non Mack would have to be the 1980 Freightlier cabover with the 3408 Caterpillar my dad had when I was a kid. He used to pull a set of Ontario A trains with it running in Ont. and Mich back in the 80's.
  11. 2200RPM sounds about right for it 1800 set too low. the one I had used to like to cruise with it about 1900 to 2100RPM with a good load behind her. I wouldn't advise runnig it under load at 1300RPM too much although they do have alot of torque at the 1100 to 1400 range it's hard on the crank to lug the snot out of them. that's why alot of them went to the scrap at an early age. It was probably the turn of the screw you turned on the back of the pump that gave you the added RPM the puffer is for emmission purposes it's supposed to delay the opening of the rack to prevent smoking, alot of them were taken off and tossed back in the day. Hopefully it works for you probably won't know until you try it loaded. That 400 Cummins of your frinds might seem quicker than yours empty but you should mop the floor with him loaded. good luck.
  12. Welcome to BMT Hardie. Are you going to put your Superliner to work or restore it. How far are you from where they did the Ice Road Truckers program on the History Channel a couple winters ago?
  13. That sounds like my 866 would run HK , give a good ruuning 425 Cat a workout. The puff limiter could be the problem if it is still on it. I would have a look at the throttle linkage arm on th left side of the pump and make sure it isn't broke right where it pivots in the middle where the spring is on it I had that before. Check your whole throtle linkage make sure it will allow the rack to open up fully. Also the shutoff linkage on the right side of the pump , make sure it is pushed all the way forward they stick sometimes and it may not let it have full fuel and make it gutless I'd start with there before trying to open it up any it's a good chance it somthing simple. I speak from experience thinking it was something complex and my problem was right under my nose.
  14. It's about time, but will it fix anything or just be a money grab for the government. I see way too many people in cars and in big trucks too, yaking on the phone or worse yet texting , there 's a time and a place for it. not in the middle of traffic, find a place to pull over or call back later, misshaps occur too often and too easy no matter who you are or how good you think you may be. It's not worth it.
  15. That's a real nice looking R Model you have there. Endt 866 V8 , 866 cubic inch displacement 375HP at the ground if it's tuned up and running right it should already be around 425hp at the flywheel. I ran one daily until about 4 yrs ago, it would walk alover a 400 Cummins especially loaded an on a hill. I would be careful about the modifcations I made to one of those be cause most of the parts for those are extinct now, and those you might find still on the odd shelf are extremely expensive. I still have a lot of parts for those here, but I don't have any literature on them, I too did the trial and error thing with the one I had. I had mine tuned at Weingand Mack in Sterling Heights, Michigan, but Ted the service manager that knew Endt V8s like the back of his hand has retired. If your pump has never been messed with or off I would say leave the timming alone. 45 mph is that uphill and loaded or on flat ground and what kind of weight are you pulling, what's the gearing in it? I would say if it is geared like a truck and not a race car it should have no problem doing what you want it to, it's probably somthing simple wrong with an easy fix, are you keeping your RPMs up when working it they don't like to be lugged too much, it's hard on the bearings and they don't like to sit and idle for long periods of time. It would be a shame to get rid of it if it is such low milage and a family airloom like that. It looks to be in beautiful shape Good luck with it, and keep trying you'll get it figured out eventually.
  16. Welcome to BMT, where abouts in Michigan are you from?
  17. I was there in 07 and saw that Nicolas Gagnon in the Pete I even have that same race on the video I took that year. That guy has a different Pete now, I have some better video of him and a couple others pulling 3 loaded trailers of lumber up the hill. I just got to get a cable for camera to computer so I can show you guys.
  18. Truck Driver/V8nut

I usualy go through North Bay a couple of times each summer on my way to the Truck Rodeo at Notre Dame Du Nord or just going to my buddys place east of Mattawa it's a real nice area. It's good to see another Cannuk on the site, My name is Dan I'm from Essex,Ont. look forward to chatting with you and good luck with your project.
  20. It sounds like a 12 spd to me. 5 gears on the stick split each one, 2 gears in deep reduction, on dash, 5 reverse gears, and 5 neutral gears for a pto.
  21. That looks like a nice project with lots of potencial , Good choice and welcome aboard.
  22. Good lookin H Model , Welcome Aboard.
