  1. Don't see any markings but is that an ex- Nashua Motor Freight truck?
  2. Funny how years ago their were lots of tire problems on a hot Friday afternoon while everyone was hightailing it back to the garage as fast as they could go.
  3. Maybe a little more but it won't gain you much more mph
  4. One thing that always is different when I mess with the formula is "actual" tire size. The same size tire but different brands are different actual sizes. Even when I have measured the tires myself there are variables. The main deal here is that it is a B81 dump truck and dump trucks of that time period were about a 50 mph truck. I recall that true 24" rubber on trucks so equipped were branded "not to exceed 55 mph". Jim
  5. The TRQ 7210 has ratio from .69-13.78 and the TRQ 7220 has ratio from.70-13.80. Pretty close ratios.
  6. That will help but not much. Up to about 48 mph. 2100 rpm X 44" =92400 5.68 gear ratio with over drive X 336 =1910.36 92400/1910.36= 48.36 mph Jim Revised
  7. Hopefully, she doesn't have a date for this event already picked out!
  8. On the carrier, pass. side, there is a 45 degree slope toward the front of the truck. That is the location for the ratio to be stamped. Since the fifth wheel is not on should be able to look down on it. May have to remove grease and dirt etc. Jim
  9. Number 1. Don't kill yourself... Number 2. Start checking around the new plate for wires that got pinched or damaged. If you had lights before the body rebuild, then anything that is new or disturbed could be suspect. Did some welding in the body rebuild melt some wires?
  10. Open the radiator cap/dog base and pour the antifreeze in. I usually fill until the tubes start to get covered over. Jim
  11. Welcome! The level may be low so you can't see it? Should be able to flip the cap and look in and see the top of the tubes of the radiator core. May have a baffle but still should be able to see. The small tube is the overflow. Jim
  12. Last time I saw the L model flatbed, it was for sale in the Lancaster, PA area. It was in a barn on a property that was in the nursery business. Jim
  13. I will see if I can find the article on Allis Chalmers road engines. They were painted purple and given the name of Big AL. My recollection was that the engine was great if it ran in a tight rpm range but not so good in truck application where the range is 500-900 rpm.
  14. Not aware of Allison engines. By any chance are you thinking of Allis Chalmers diesel engines?
  15. Pretty KooL! I got it after making the picture bigger to better read what was on the side of the wagon. After that amount of time in the hauling business, your family has seen and done it all!
  16. Damn it, Ron !!!! Are you going to become a criminal now? Nice old time photo. I assume one of those horse was named Mack......? Is this business "Smith" related to you? Just got it after I clicked on the picture to make it bigger.
  17. Well, either use a boat load of degreaser to get the numbers off the box or go to the dealer with the vin to get the box number. There are different Mack steering boxes.
  18. What? No Hank's harmed??? Like that MH! Almost as good as a hot babe with a cold popsicle...... Almost!
  19. I realize that photos can be taken of lots of stuff and most people don't care one way or another. My beef was that one of Hank's member made it sound like they "always" do the right thing with permission, waivers, etc. Well, just by looking at some of the photos, that is impossible. Some of the trucks are driving on highways! How are they getting permission for the photos? I also laugh at the number of manufacturers brochure photos that have been "copywrited" into someone's collection. Once again, I think Hank's has taken the "collection" concept to the extreme. Just having fun in the sun! Carry on, Jim
  20. Junction block box is bolted on the end of the frame rail near the last crossmember and the tail lights. Available at NAPA or better parts stores.
  21. Hey Bob, Check around some of the better music stores in your area. Some shops have the equipment to transfer the record to CD or will know of someone that can do it.
  22. Probably not, Pelletier was an all Mack fleet early on. Macks didn't roll over as much as Western Stars.........well, except U models!
  23. The picture is Waterville, ME. Probably spent some time on the Golden Road out of Millinocket that goes all the way to Canada. Jim
