  1. For some reason I thought the PTO gear was fixed, if nothing else it can be done on the tail end of countershaft with the rear cover off. But I think the PTO gear is pressed on so tight you don’t have to worry about it moving to check this. Terry
  2. Been along time since i have done this, but take a dial indicator with a magnetic base and mount it somewhere around PTO , find a fixed gear on countershaft , configure indicator to touch it, take a small pry bar to slide fixed gear forward and back to check end play, then there are shims under countershaft rear cover piece to add or take out shims for desired endplay. Joey might have a different way to measure this. Hope this helps terry Think i used the PTO gear to do this
  3. As far as telling a duplex, triplex or quad. Back box length will tell you. Terry
  4. When you set the endplay on the countershaft both boxes need to be bolted together, there is a tapered bearing between them, so when you check end play it is for both countershafts, it would be the last thing to do on reassembly. Terry
  5. should be aluminum rear box, and direct in the front box, be sure to check countershaft end play, dial indicator through PTO opening, there are shims under back box cover plate on the end of countershaft. Terry I think i used the PTO gear to do this.
  6. Look on left side of front box, right behind fill plug, might have to wire brush it real good to see, duplex will be a Trd 72 direct or a 720 overdrive, triplex will be a trt 72 or 720. Terry
  7. Did you ever get these lenses? terry
  8. I had an overdrive 12 spd in a DM dump with 4.17 rears, had the engine where I could turn 2300 RPM if I wanted, it could bury the 80 MPH speedometer! Terry
  9. Yeah i have seen alot of them used with small cracks there. terry
  10. Biggest problem with them heads are cracks between valve seats and between injector hole and valve seat. terry
  11. Just checked your profile says you’re in Utah, I might know of some of them here, but you’re a long way from Omaha.🤷‍♀️. Terry
  12. That rebuilt head from Vander Haggs didn’t work out? Terry
  13. Looks like the big air filter used on the 285hp. series of engines. terry
  14. Real common on all B models. Terry
  15. looks real solid around that air filter, real bad spot for rust, and above the left cab mount can be another bad spot. terry ran one of them steel dash ones in a dump truck for years.
  16. Love them C models! Terry
  17. Yeah definitley sits closer. terry
  18. Don't know if it is short enough, has to be no longer than the original B model pump. It has the shaft length, maybe compare to the b model one. terry
  19. Unbolt tube #10 at front of oil cooler and slide out of oil cooler head, pry old o ring out of cooler head, put new O ring in in ,put some oil or a dab of grease on oil outlet tube and reinstall. terry
  20. A real heavy hauler! alot of money, but probably not for one set up that way. terry
  21. Check on the thermostat, thermostat has to be about 10 or 15 degrees cooler than the shuttstat, if your really working the engine the thermostat opens first, if still to warm then the shutter stat opens shutters and cools it down. Terry
  22. Western iowa 339 a gallon. For gas .Terry
  23. Yeah the RD was available in fiberglas hood or steel hood. Terry
  24. Have to agree about the torque band comment, but that six speed can handle way more torque than that 400 can put out, how about all them high horse V8 engines with the 12 speed, same triple countershaft design. Terry
  25. Served “69” in V.N. Terrible, terrible waste of young men over there, for absolutely nothing! Of course seems that’s the way all our conflicts go lately Terry
