B615 getting cut up??
Vladislav replied to 1977vega's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
The truck on the pic looks as a single axle and Kevin told about tandems. So I hope those were different matters. Cutting up a B-615 would be big shame. -
Where’s this truck?

As said above. -
Ridgeway is an animal. I wouldn't say about the MIG but worth all the copters on my taste.

Wiring schematic
Vladislav replied to Prowrench's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Another idea - you might try contacting vintagewiringofmaine for a advice. The guy makes new harnesses and have quite an impressive list of Mack sets he's offering (probably made in the past). I personally couldn't get any luck contacting him when wanted to order a custom harness but you might be more successfull than me. Corona evidence made some folks less busy with current affairs and more leaned toward conversations. -
When was the R700 discontinued?
Vladislav replied to Whiskymack's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Thanks Mike. I never payed attention to the fact thinking the 1st generation was assembled at Hayward only. But this above discussion put more questions to me than answers. Now the things are clear. -
The threadle valve - now your pictures brings my memories back. What we did was cutting off the nuts from below the floor (seen on your pictures) and remove the valve assembly downwards. Had to disconnect air lines off it so draw a scheme and marked the lines. After the assembly got on a bench we cut or turn loose 3 bolts which connected upper part (with the plunger - tappet) to the brake valve. Hitted the plunger both ends with a hammer, got it free, sanded, greased, put back in. And than assembled everything back together using new hardware. At the time we also cut the rest of bolts which connected all the pedal plate to the floor. So I was able to sandblast and paint the plate and two pedals in a hope to prolongate their good days. The big relay - of what i recall we had an issue with power supply in the cab. Turned out there was a big wire which went from below the cab and supposed to power up the fuse panel and it had no voltage. So we reconnect it elsewhere or revised its power sourse or something else, not ready to tell now. The point I wanted to let you know there should be one big wire below or behind the dash at the passenger side which supplys everything in the cab. So it would or could be a point you use checking out electric functioning. Sorry no advice on sourcing the air line connector (manifold?) Excepting looking for good used one or fabricating in a machine shop.

When was the R700 discontinued?
Vladislav replied to Whiskymack's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
RS/L 600 Value-Liner continued as was. RS/L700 discontinued before the date. The whole cylinder head castings of V8 engine were completely different since they conteined 2 valves instead of 4. I suppose they had a similar mounting pattern as E9 regardless less cylinder bore. At least something like that was posted on here in the past. But actually the heads on 865/866 represented different shape at the top and carried smaller covers. -
When was the R700 discontinued?

Thank you for the answer. Now I got a proof of knowing the most things right. But now is my next question - where was Mack Superliner produced from 1981 to 1985 and using which frame rails? -

When was that happened? -
Great look! At one hand it seems sad when you (anybody) have spent damn lots of efforts to make a rig perfect and get it finished but in a bit of while polished parts fades out and dust collects in corners giving away a clean show look. So you have to continue putting powers to keep the diamond shiny. On the other hand when your project is ready you actually don't have much of to do with it. So takings some care to it might mean a bit of play. And result of such care of a kind you showed us on the pictures brings no doubt a lot of fun and pride.

Looks like the same or similar Superliner in the raw after 2 Midliners and 3 R's. -

When was the R700 discontinued?
Vladislav replied to Whiskymack's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Can't understand again. Was the 2nd gen RW with rectangular headlights known internally as RWI model (not RWII)? Should I take that RWI doesn't mean RWS? Ok, if so, when Superliner production was moved from Hayward to East Coast (in 81 as Mike said) did it already purchase a newly designed MH chassis? Or any trucks were assembled using Cruiseliner rails? -
The brake pin housing and the threaddle valve are two different parts. The lower part (valve) is a standart Bendix valve. The top part is a housing with the pin (or plunger) inside and it's special to a MH. R-model has similar part but it's much shorter with shorter pin (and easier to get moving when stuck). The matter is those two parts are connected with 3 screws. You should take them loose or cut. This would allow you to get the upper part off the truck with access to the bottom side of the plunger. As i remember those two parts are connected to each other having the cab floor in between. So the threadle valve is below the floor and the pin housing inside the cab. i might be wrong on that since we fought this issue already 6 years ago and my helper fixed the truck not me.

The MH chassis-based RWI - what it actually was?? A RW2 with earlier headlights? Also seems strange since Cruiseliner kept its original Western split chassis to the end of production (at Macungie) and RW1 had similar chassis. So what is the truth? Was RW1 with its original not MH-based chassis ever produced at Macungie or not? -

865 and 866 differ by the look from E9 having narower valve covers since they had only 2 valves per cylinder. Usually easy to recognize. There were a few experimental (or a short run) R700's with what Kevin mentioned as ETAZ-1000 or ETAZ-1005 V8 4 valve engines which actually were (as I figure) a pre-series variant of E9. Looking the pics there was no aftercooler but 4V versus 2V is a keystone difference on my mind. Someone once posted on here a couple of pics of such truck which he was going to buy as I recall. -

Even a little sensation to me. Never knew SGT had Superliners. Thanks, very appreciated ! -
The engine looks like 2V E6-350 which was installed in MH's before 1985. It must have a chassis mounted intercooler in front of the main radiator. Very reliable engine and the most of parts are easy to fing and cost reasonable. The solenoid looks like a main shut off relay. R-model has similar part installed under the dash. It gets on when you turn the ignition key and supplys power to instrumet panel gauges and alternator. Probably to other circuits either. Some outside lights (or all?) and engine starter are supplied straight passing the relay. I didn't look for the relay in MH since didn't have a trouble but my R-model has it inoperational from time to time. Usually after the truck is parked for too long. Actually it gets stuck and you have to turn the key multiple times or slightly hit the relay body. Once I bought the truck the previous owner hitted it every time he switched the ignition. I took the solenoid apart, cleaned and greased it and it turned out troublefree. But in a few years it started remembering me his existance.

Wow! I can say you digged out a very interesting detail. Alastair must be excited Seems like you're almost right. My R688 of 1988 has rad sitting lower in the chassis being attached not almost the way you described yourth (I suppose you just didn't figure those points completely) but on a pair of brackets which are a thick bent still bolted to the inner side of the front spring brackets. They're not at the top of the frame rails but just a lil bit lower. Actually I don't expect to see anything else on your R and RD688 but I can never be 100% sure. My RD690 you shared a pic of the front bracket of indeed had a different rad which seated higher off the frame. It was not exactly the same style as in your truck but also had a pair of legs it standed on the crossmember. Actually there was a rad support bracket the legs were attached to. You can see it hanging down in the picture when the truck was still looking as a truck. The crossmember also holded the front of the engine by a kind of shelf welded to its inner (rear) side. The previous owner stole the engine to put in his Freightliner so he took the crossmember off for the install. The rad bracket was bolted to the front (face) side so it stayed hanging on the rad which occured laying on the front frame rail ends. Of other interesting things I found out RD690 rails kept original holes where the bolts were holding Camelback stand. From the pattern it's seen that the stand was in the lower position i.e. the excessive rail heigth was put up. Still a question to me. Currently I have a thought on the matter but need to observe the frame rails which are laying along a wall of my shed to possibly get the proof. Will share as soon as i do.
