  1. If the volvo and mack engines are pretty much the same mechanicaly would't the volvo d13 engines have roller rocker arm issues also like the mp8's.
  2. Right on Rob. We still have the Mack name. If you look at it realistically the demise of Mack started with the buy out by the signal companies back in the sixties. They bled them dry and spit them out. Then Renault propped them up and infused some money. Now we have Volvo. Mack spent a lot of effort on the design and engineering side but failed to watch the store on the buisiness side. Crapccar on the other hand paid attention to the buisiness side and they are still in business. Unfortunately or fortunately Volvo is all we have for the present. I think they know the Mack name is a golden egg and I agree with you they don't want to kill it off. As a matter of a fact I don't think they can kill it off. On the other hand the great industrial giant Westinghouse was bought out by CBS (owners of Bevis and Butthead) and they broke up the industrail giant and sold it to the Europeons. Long live the Dog.
  3. Come on fellow Mackians when is the last time you saw a bulldog standing on its hind legs? I don't think you could make that happen even with a dozen pork chops.
  4. PS Forgot to say nice job on the old white. Its to bad most of the old whites went to the crusher. Have a good day!
  5. Most of the white 9000's in the states (pre Autocar cab) had cummins 160/195/220 HP. Most of the 9000's (Autocar cab pre road boss) had cummins 250 HP. Road bosses were mostly Cummins 290 hp, with quite a few v detroits (roadway). 4000's gave you leg room with pretty much the same engine options as the 9000's. It would be nice if somebody bought the White rights from volvo and brought back the White nameplate.
  6. Hey All: Check out the Mack website. They show the new Pinnacle Rawhide. Looks like they got this grill right. Stright across on top. A little wider on the bottom. Kind of like the R & F model westerns and the cruiseliner. All they need now is to follow up with some big power.
  7. Mack3P/Barry What is the chance of bringing back the R model cab as class 5-7 truck. Mack doesn't have a contendor in this range. The design start up cost would be minimal. This would still be a modern looking cab. This would solve the R model cab parts for well into the future. There are after market companies producing R and RD hoods. Maybee I'm nuts but I think this would be a winner.
  8. I saw one for sale last week on the ATHS website for 200,000 dollars. That could by a lot of B and R models.
  9. AussiChris: Just curious are you saying that the volvo D 16 and the cummins signature are the same or similar engines. How are they the same and what is the relationship between Cummins and volvo. Good day
  10. Just curious was there any other mack models or info at the show.
  11. I believe the 673 went from 170 HP to 187 HP when they changed the intake manifold. It was changed from a straight manifold feeding six cylinders to a split manifold feeding 3 cylinders each. I am not sure if there were pump or injector changes. They then turbo charged it and it went to 205 HP. The turbo took away the Mack exhust rap but it was a real smooth sweet sounding engine. Meyer Materials had 5 or six 6 of these at there Wheeling Illinois plant. They were twin screw B63's pulling dump trailers.
  12. Try the old macks are us web site. They have all the engines listed horsepower and torque. Engine curves you would might be able to get at the Mack museum.
  13. In looking at the Mack cavalcade in Australia it looks like the superliner and trident are the same truck. It looks like they can have the Mack logo in the middle of the grill or the top of the grill. Both have round tanks. The Titan has ugly square tanks but probably higher capacity. Also shown is a granite with a sleeper. They are bringing the Titan over to the US. I wonder if the Trident or Superliner will follow.
  14. I know that the MP 10 is in the family and will be a fine engine, but I think they should offer cummins and cat. This will be a popular truck and broadening the engine base should broaden sales. People buy tucks for different reasons. Some by price, some by name brand, some by dealer, some buy warantee and service and yes many by engine manufacturer. Here in Connecticut mack has lagged due to the big power (Cummins & Cat) in the Petes and Kw's. Mack look at what works and compete. Long live Mack. Stop all this Volvo/New Mack bashing. Macks are still made in America by Americans. They are still made of steal, cast iron, aluminum. Still use lube oil and diesel fuel. Still have dedicated design and engineering people, and they still have one thing no other truck has and never will, the MACK NAME.
  15. The 50's IH cab was used on IH, Diamond-T, Hendrickson, available & FWD. Mack B cabs were very similar to REO Military, IH KB. The LT LJ cab is similar to the H model. A model macks were similar to wc whites. While the F model cab was bigger than the R you can see that it was the similar in style
  16. Cardi out of Rhode Island still runs many aqua blue DM 800's dumps. Not fast on the highway but steady and reliable.
  17. Does anybody know if the CL replacement will come out when the MP10 engine is introduced? Will there be a new mack line up that looks like the Australian line up? Will mack get a COE like the Volvo twin in Australia. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
  18. Ingersoll Rand is not dead they just sold one of there divisions. However there goes another chunk of our industrial base
