  1. The section about questions and answers about SCR and DPF.
  2. Buried on the Mack web sight there is reference to a new econodyne engine and a rear axle carrier. But the big news is reference to a new model**********! Could it be the revival of the **********? We shall see.
  3. I would quit my cat herding job to drive that yellow CHU. It doesn't get any better than that.
  4. Gray scum usually means oil and water mixture. All sumps will have a certain amount of moisture in them from the air spaces above the oil level. The water vapor condenses after engine shutdown. It then boils off after engine startup. When it boils off after heating up the steam escapes through the engine breathing system. The dip stick tube is an area where the moisture can't escape so it can mix with the tube oil film and make a grayish sludge. You might try leaving the dip stick slightly off its seat so that dip stick fumes can escape. An oil sample is certainly in order just to put your mind at ease.
  5. It seems that many 2003-2005 macks have more than their fair share of problems. Is there any body not having problems with them.
  6. I had that thought about the old exported macks. That may be some of the reason new sales aern't so great. The old macks just run forever .
  7. From the vulgar web site. November North American volvo sales 707 units. November Mack sales 833. Year to date volvo sales 6833. Year to date Mack sales 7283. Not bad considering the volvo product is pushed harder. That certainly seems to be the case in South America where volvo out sold Mack in November 20 to 1 (1000vs50). Merry Christmas to all. and hope 2010 is prosperous.
  8. In my view mack could pump out a few more vehicles with the Cummins diesel option. They have had a relationship with Cummins as far back as the 40's maybee 30's. Merry Christmas.
  9. If I remember right in one of the Mack books(maybee Montville) there is a picture of the last B model produced. Again if I remember right it was an all wheel drive B-57 cement truck. Merry Christmas all and keep the rubber side down.
  10. AP Noonan(Delta Bulk) was a long time Mack user and still has many CH's and RD's. Over the last five years or so they were buying KW T-800's and Pete 379's. The other day on 95 in Connecticut I spotted a brandi new Axle forward Pinnacle for Delta Bulk. Most of their trucks are kept up pretty well. Looks like they are giving Mack a look again.
  11. From the vol** web site. Sept v**vo sales 803. Sept Mack sales 806. Mack has beat v**** for the last six months straight. Considering that many of the dealerships try to push v**V*'s over Macks this data is not bad. Y ear to date v^^^^ North America 5271. Year to date Mack North America 5609. It must make the volv# brass squirm a little.
  12. Other dog say it ain't so. Did you say peterbilt! Oh well better than V%*&o
  13. Go to the Australian Mack web site and check out the Trident. This is one bad a** looking truck. It seems like it would be pretty simple to offer this hood(bonnet) as an option on the axle forward CH. Also since Mack is starting to offer Cummins as an option for natural gas engines why not the diesel as well. Some people like cummins engines and are geared up for maintenance on them etc. Volvo offers a Cummins option why not there step child Mack.
  14. I thought SCR/DPF was mandatory to meet 2010 EPA regs. Maybee 2009's were just mandatory DPF.
  15. There have been quite a few comments about Mack getting the volvo cab and that being the straw that breaks the camels back as far as volvo and Mack being the same. As far as cabs go I believe both volvo and Mack use cabs built by Mayflower. When the cab contract comes to an end I guess they will probably choose the best one or an entirely new cab. In years gone by International FWD Hendrickson Sicard and others all used the same cab. This cab was usually refered to as the International cab but actually it was built by Chicago manufacturing. The B model cab was also built by Chicago manufacturing. Actually the B model cab was very similar to Reo and KB Internationals. The LT and H model were very similar. If you look at the B-model integral sleepers it looks like the back end of an H-model incorpotated into the front end of the B model. Cabs being built by third parties is nothing new.
  16. If you go to the Mack web site there is an engineer there that answers questions about the 2010 models and there pollution devices. I think it is under talking SCR. If you read through the questions and replies from him (about 10 pages worth)I get the impression that he is pretty positive about Mack going forward. Granted that is his job to be positive. He is one of the transfers down to North Carolina. Give it a look see and see what ya'll think.
  17. volvo haters and Mack lovers take heart. From the volvo web site year to date volvo sales 3986 units and year to date Mack sales 4240 units. volvo brass do you get the message. This go around instead of dropping Autocar White/GMC etc. Why not drop volvo and push Mack. Just to clarify these stats are for the North American market.
  18. Just because you are strange doesn't make you a bad person.
  19. Check the distributer cap for carbon arcing. It may be a cylinder firing at the wrong time. Sometimes you have to wipe out the inside of the cap to see the carbon tracks. The spark actually travels over these arc lines to another cylinder firing it at the wrong time. Just a thought.
  20. I know i am engaging in a criminal activity (checking the volvo web site). I check there to see Mack deliveries for the month. It appears that the D11 is getting kicked up to 450 Hp, the D13 to 550 HP and the D16 to 700 HP. I wonder if the MP's will follow suite. It may just be a Europe thing. Sorry for the criminal activity but the Mack site doesn't appear to provide delivery info. long live what's left of Mack. Later buds.
  21. Just a guess but magnadyne may have had its origin from magneto.
  22. Back to the original question before the turn. Thermo means heat and dyne is a measure of energy thus thermodyne equals heat energy. originally this was probably a marketing tool. Maxidyne- maximum energy (guess). Econodyne- economy energy (guess). I believe thermodyne started with the b models. Before that the L and A models were just mack diesel if I remember correctly.
