Superliner s cat powered
Bullheaded replied to mackey58's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I just didn't appreciate them back then Mackey58. The mechanically governed Mack motors were all I ever wanted to run. I didn't care for anything else, LOL Now when it comes to the electronic age......I don't want anything but a 3406E/C15. -

Superliner s cat powered
Bullheaded replied to mackey58's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
There were quite a few Cat powered Superliners here in northern Ontario. And Cat powered CL's also. Main reasons were there being a big network of Cat dealers and many of these companies also had Cat equipment, so they liked to standardize parts. I also drove one. It was pretty sweet looking. 425 Cat, 15 speed overdrive, double frame, heavy axles with spring over walking beams, flat top bunk, dual breathers and exhaust. Wish I had pics of it. Pulled a 5 axle Raglan Hydra-Glide dump trailer with it. -
LOL Alex, can you believe all the highways from the Sault to White River and Hornepayne were already closed today and transports crashed. Unreal. This new breed of people suck.

I'll say it again, wish a Trump would take over Canada too. So much for free speech eh? They only allow you to see what "they" want you to see and hear.

Superliner shifter dampener
Bullheaded replied to ekennedy21's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Ya, I have never seen that dampener before. -
I liked spokes. As long as you keep good wedges and spacers on them. Plus I know how to balance them so they run straight.
-
This probably don't count because it's an off road truck, but 4900 glider with a 550 Cat and 65,000 Mack rears on Mack solid trunion walking beams.

An Anthem and a Couple Gold Bulldogs
Bullheaded replied to autocardc's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
A couple more different specs courtesy of Nortrux Mack in Alberta, Canada. Odd that anybody would want an Anthem dump truck. But like has been said, probably cheaper than a Granite. -
They were a really nice truck to drive. Biggest issue we had in this area was the cabs and doors would rot from the road salt. Other than that they were solid tough trucks. Only the hood where the hinges mount were a bit weak and would crack if you were logging or off road.

Superliner shifter dampener
Bullheaded replied to ekennedy21's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I used to drive an E9 Superliner with a 12 speed Mack and it literally used to shift itself, LOL It would just fall into the next gear on it's own. But at least it did it at the right time, LOL -

Cummins X15 Powered Mack Trident Trial..
Bullheaded replied to Hayseed's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Ya, it is an ugly duckling. No gauges, not even a radio and it was still $170,000 before taxes. That being said...the build quality and fit and finish and materials are very automotive like. Not as old school cool as the Stars I was last running, but way better quality. Yes, it is a performance series 525. I'll probably be moving the D6K next run and we have some big steep hills so I'll let you know how it runs. -
Cummins X15 Powered Mack Trident Trial..
Bullheaded replied to Hayseed's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
I retired from trucking, but God, I hope he turns things around. I'd like to see Mack come back to heavy haul. I'm going to get to try an X15. I'm an equipment operator in a mine now, but they just brought me this to float equipment with since I was a trucker. T800, X15 524, 52,000 rear and 4.58 ratio, 18 speed manual. Mine manager was so proud it had "big" power. I didn't have the heart to tell him I've had dump trucks with 600's, LOL -
Honestly I see a Freightliner, Volvo, Peterbilt and International HX all mixed together, LOL
-
The end of breathers too. Oh well, at least I still have my old memories and I don't have to drive these new ones any more.
-
I can tell you 100% for sure........the International HX is a way better built truck than the 2013 and 2020 Star 4900's I was running.

Got an email from Western Star this morning. Here it is. And just like I said.....a Coronado 122SD with a Star 4700 grill and an ugly interior. https://www.westernstartrucks.com/thenext/ And here we thought Volvo was going to dismantle Mack first, LOL Anyway, pricing last dump truck, a 122SD spec for spec was 17 grand cheaper than a Star. So I know which one I'd be buying. And it ain't the new Star.
-
I worked a few years down where these guys are with my Paystar dump truck. Cool to see they are all International now.

Mack's in the Mine
Bullheaded replied to Bullheaded's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Just confirmed what I thought. The resale value of the Star's is higher now.....because they have 65,000 Mack rears and solid trunion walking beams, LOL The Stars are gliders with 550 Cat's. The owner told me today....the CL's are tougher trucks. -
Mack's in the Mine
Bullheaded replied to Bullheaded's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Old underground mine truck tires with a weight box on them. We are in the mountains and it's all big hills and cliffs in here. Perfect for an E9 V8!! I probably would have never left trucking if I still could by a new mechanically governed E9. Still waiting for them to take the Superliner out again. But they don't wanna get it dirty. -
