  1. Yep, I can't understand drivers we have had. Wash the truck and make it all shiny and then you go inside the cab and it's an all out pig pen with holes drilled all over in everything.
  2. Can't wait to see when you get it done and working.
  3. NO BETTER VIEW THAN OUT OVER THE HOOD OF THAT R!!! Man, that brings back some good memories. I got so many miles in an R. I sure miss that.
  4. When I was a kid I had an Ertl metal IH Loadstar flat bed truck with John Deere decals on it. Like a dealer delivery truck. So yesterday I thought about it and went online to see if I could find one. Holy! Any you can find are 300 to 400 plus dollars! Wish I still had all my old toys, LOL I do still have a metal Ertl International Transtar cab over with a Husky Oil tanker trailer that actual holds and pumps fluid. It is good for dispensing "ethanol" whiskey. LOL
  5. I know they made some big 4WD sugar cane tractors and at the time they were having a lot of issues with their own engines and almost all of them were repowered with Detroit's. There are a lot of really cool old Allis Chalmers dealer videos on You Tube. For both their farm tractors and the motor graders. Allis Chalmers was another company like White Motor Corp. It is amazing how big and much stuff they were into. Everything from crushers to power generation. There is still Allis Chalmers crushers working in the slag processing area of our steel mill.
  6. Yep, change it. I had the purge valve fail on my brand new 2020. Then not long after the un-loader valve had to be replaced. They sure don't make parts like they used to.
  7. Cool truck! Looks like a design copy of Simard's Dramis truck. Wonder if there was some kind of licensing agreement? Because they are both pretty much the same and Simard was first to market with those electronically-controlled hydro-pneumatic suspension. And they started making them with Mack Granite's. But now they can be had in any make. We have them in use in some of the mines around here.
  8. It's amazing the lifespan of these ships when you look at their date of manufacture. Especially with the pounding they take going through the ice and the occasional running aground. I know it's not a job for some. I know people that worked on these ships when they were young and now you can't even get them to step on to a pleasure craft tied to the dock, LOL
  9. Wow! I have never seen a Hough tracked loader. And I have a bunch of IH history books and have never seen that mentioned. I know mostly the wheel loaders and the Paylogger tree skidders were made in Quebec Canada. I have ran a couple Hough wheel loaders, a 65 and the 560. The 560 was strong. We used to use it to move the crushers and lift parts for the crushers.
  10. I also saw a really good show on Discovery Science channel I think it was? I think it was that Mighty Ships show and it was all about the Paul R Tregurtha. I had lots of really cool footage and of it passing through the Soo Locks. I get to see all these big iron ore haulers because they all come to out steel mill. I think I have seen that oil tanker also delivering to the Sault.
  11. I'm not really into ships, but living near a shipping lane it's a cool web sight where you can look and see what ship it is going by in real time.
  12. I found this on the net: Shortly after 7:10 p.m., Edmund Fitzgerald suddenly sank in Canadian (Ontario) waters 530 feet (88 fathoms; 160 m) deep, about 17 miles (15 nautical miles; 27 kilometers) from Whitefish Bay near the twin cities of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and Sault Ste. Marie, On.
  13. Not to siderail this thread, but how is the latest Volvo equipment now as far as reliability Mack Tech? A big local quarry here has a bunch of the big 350 wheel loaders with the D16 engines and they said they have been electrical nightmares. Have they improved them any over the last couple years?
  14. Yes sir. The Fitz is right by Whitefish Point. I'd love to go for a ride on one....but only in good weather. LOL This ship is on the same route to Deluth right now. I don't know the extent of the storm but it was a complete white out of snow this morning. But it all melted again. But was windy all day.

    Ship

Anyone into ships? I got one of the Great Lakes freighters in front of my house since yesterday. When there are bad storms on lake Superior they will often tuck into to the bay here to take shelter. I use this site. You can track all the vessels on the Great lakes. https://ais.boatnerd.com/ And here is the ship that is here right now. http://www.boatnerd.com/pictures/fleet/algomaenterprise.htm
  16. From what I have read, that was the very first conventional prototype they made. I'm starting to get a new appreciation for these other trucks now because back in the day NOTHING existed to me other than Mack and International.
  17. Not now, but there was a time an aluminum hood Freightliner conventional would put a Pete or KW to shame.
  18. The only manufacturer that would build a truck like that? They must not have asked Western Star about the 6900 XD. I have tried both the T880 and the Pete version (567 or 569?? whatever it is) I've never been a Peterbilt fan, but I actually like the Pete better. The dash is lower and better visibility than the T880 version. As for the truck itself, I do like the T880, but would still take a T800 first.
  19. You are likely correct Red Horse. I never really looked at the GVW's all that close. I still prefer the design of the International/Chev. And I like the lower shop rates of International truck dealers than Ford dealers. I'd love to have a CV, but it's that DPF/regen thing that keeps me liking my old F550, LOL
  20. I'm a Ford guy, but I'd take an International CV over them. CV can be had in 4WD. Granted the Ford can be spec'd to higher GVW's.
  21. That's a sharp looking CH too Terry. I like that! Ya, I didn't notice the E7 numbers on the door bottoms of the CL until after I posted, LOL I just saw the Elite badges on the grill and couldn't tell if it also said E9 500. I had also thought I had read that Bill Bottoms had passed away but I wasn't certain. They built some pretty cool stuff.
