  1. very nice. looks very well cared for.
  2. manufacture date is 6-07 i think that would be a bit early for a 08 model but i suppose its possible. i will probably need to varify with the owner before too long so i don't end up getting any wrong parts. small win today got the engine out after i did that preasure washed down the engine bay and did a general shop clean up ill let it dry off over night maybe over the weekend and then start prepping the new engine to go in.
  3. iv seen similar on coastal cars the salty air rusts them from the top down leaving everything underneath actually relatively rust free. so they look like there a lost cause but really pretty solid cars
  4. emissions drove the 7.3 out the 6.0 was still a navstar engine. the 6.0 was such a epic failure of a engine that ford sued navstar and went to a in house motor with the 6.4 the 6.4 has some issues too better than the 6.0 but still a bit of a troublesome engine. haven't really messed with any 6.4's much
  5. thanks i suppose i will probably have to cap my labor at about 16 hours then, ill surly go over that but its kinda expected to take a little longer than it should the first time you do a different model. i only spent about 2 hours on it today parts for a axle on a bucket truck i was working came in today so i had to get that slapped back together. and then the replacement motor for this truck showed up so i had to go get it and take it too my shop and some other running around ate up a lot of today. the motor is just about ready to lift out on the super-duty now. probably a hour or less once i get back to it and the motor will be ready to lift out. got about 8-8.5 in it so far.
  6. ford has had enough issues i have chevys now. quite a few years ago now i used to do all the mechanic work for a company that had all fords for pickups. all there diesels were 7.3's at the time witch although they have a couple little minor issues with them were dang good engines, they had tons of problems with there gas engines. the trucks were early 2000's witch were not that old at the time. they all liked to blow spark plugs out of the heads. witch you could tap and helicoil once but if the same plug blew out again you pretty much had to replace the head witch was a chore. but doable on that body style. Id hate to have to do that job on this truck im working on now had a few engines go in them as well in them as well. the biggest pia they had was a cube van they had with a v10. my personal truck back then was a 97 ford f250 with a 7.3L was a darn good truck sold it in i think 2009 with 400k miles on it. it was starting to get tired but still ran good and the paint was starting to get quite a few rust bubbles so i figured i best get rid of it while it still looked good and ran good. but thats when everyone was trying to dump all there 6.0's and 7.3's in the newer body style were fetching top dollar so i ended up buying a 2003 gmc 2500hd with the 8.1L and Allison. other than fuel millage not being great its a great truck. only had 80k miles on it when i bought it. then my service truck is a 97 chevy 2500 with a 350. its a good truck but it lost a cyl last year bent push rod so i got a good junk yard pullout and put in it. still have the other motor out of that truck sitting around waiting for me to rebuild it whenever i get motivated to do it. I like ford trucks but them early trition motors put a bad taste in my mouth and i wouldn't want a ford desel newer than a 7.3L. I probably still got a few years before i upgrade my pickup again at witch time i might pull my service bed off the 97 and put it on my 03 and get something else
  7. this one is the f250 superduty yours appears to be the light duty 250 witch is based off the f-150 chassis. the power stearing pump is already off on this one, someone changed the ps pump at some point becouse one of the bolts was buggerd up and another was missing. but it didn't come off too bad no need to take the pulley off just un bolt it from the motor and tie it back out of the way.
  8. cab would definitely have to come off to remove the head with the engine still in the truck. i would have passed on this job all together if it would have been a 6.4. however after pulling the intake manifold it looks like the engine should come out. the engine being set so far back really makes it a pia. its almost like working on a van without a removable dog house. without a lift removing the cab would be a job in itself.
  9. I don't know if anyone knows what the book time would be or have a general idea but I am putting a engine in a 2007 ford f-250 superduty 5.4L gasser. I have not quoted a price they just asked if i had time to get it done or not and at the moment i do so they had it taken over to my shop i started on it today. newest ford i have done before was a early 2000's this one seems like there is a lot more that has to come off to get out of the way than normal. most pickups I have done in the past i would have had the engine out and laying on the shop floor by now. so far all i have gotten done on this one is just getting everything out of the way. still have to separate the trans from the motor, motor mounts and drop the ac compressor and exhaust off the motor before its ready to lift out. being that i havent done one quite this new before im not sure how much i should charge for it. something like a late 90's chevy 350 i would probably charge somewhere between 12-15 hours pretty sure i will have a fair bit more time into this one considering iv got about 6.5 in it so far but don't want to over charge due to having to take some time to figure a few things out ect. but don't want to undercharge and cut myself short either. so i guess in short if anyone knows what the book time on this job would be or about how long should be charged for it that would be helpful a few pics to show just how much shit has to come out before you can pull the motor.
  10. just driving bobtail for a short drive you will be fine to lock the power divider and go.

  12. nd is bridge law up to a maximum of 105,500 62 so a tandem dump with a 20k front would roughly be 54k maximum tri axle dump with a 20k front would be roughly 62k max these numbers of course would be subject to actual measurements as well on 7 axles tractor trailer with a 12k front i can do 96k can legally haul 29.3 tons
  13. they have been talking about this for a while now. yes 750k is a bit outdated but looking at claim statistics i dont remember the exact number but i think it was less than 1% result in caims of more than 750k. in reality 750k number does not mean much because if you want to get a load from anyone you pretty much have to have at least 1 mill in insurance. 4.5 mill is ridiculous unless your hauling hazmat or things that could result in huge environmental clean up problems.
  14. if i had that lathe i would use it for a lot more than mayo. i think they need to donate there mayo machine to me
  15. grease hubs should have the bearings re-packed periodically. i always run oil. a guy that i know who is very knowledgeable and has more time under his belt than i do runs the Lucas hub oil. i was giving him a hand with one of his trailers one day and when I filled the hubs. it was very thick liquid almost grease like but did flow. kinda the best of both worlds i would run that stuff in my trucks but i always have some bottles of 80/90 around and just grab and use that every time i need some. i should get a few bottles to put on my shelf but never think to grab some and always keep 80/90 on hand
  16. looks good though having drove a bran new 389 for a little while put about the first 70k miles on it. i was not impressed quality had really gone down hill over there older trucks.
  17. looks good, looks like quite a bit of a squeeze getting everything in there but it looks like it came out good
  18. i am running 5/40 synthetic. first number is the cold flow number second is the hot viscosity so 5/40 is the same as 15/40 when everything is warmed up but flows better cold.
  19. i had the same thing happen on my 2000 460 e-7 as well i found it because the Jake was not working on that head. i put one in with lock tight and so far so good.
  20. the one in the picture does not appear to be setup to be able to be hooked too a 5th wheel the dolly is basicly part of the trailer. could probably be cut off and have a kingpin welded on and landing gear installed. there are probably some out there that are setup with a 5th wheel converter dolly but might be harder to find.
  21. they were looking a little long in the tooth. it was a good show however. probably glad I didn't have a front row seat for the tutu the other half had mentioned the concernt back before Christmas so i bought tickets for a Christmas present then i had forgotten about it till yesterday when she said we needed to get ready to leave. I guess she expects me to remember things...lol
  22. they put on a good show. Cheech and Chong did a bit of a comedy bit as well as preformed some of there songs from there movies and war put on a good show. cheech even came out in the pink too too and did the song from up in smoke. http://youtu.be/m3JdrkGEOhQ War preforming Cisco kid last night
  23. here is one from this last spring. truck made a wrong turn and turned into a farmers approach rather than the road he was supposed to turn on 1/4 mile past the road ended in a feild. then he noticed the trucks hauling to the job on the road about a mile away so he decided to continue across the feild till he sunk it in the soft ground
  24. got the breaks fixed i learned about replacing whole backing plate and everything several years ago i tryed to get just shoes for a trailer and they said they would have to special order then and then told me that they had the whole assembly on hand for a cheaper price. i am not a fan of surge brakes although both have there drawbacks and i much prefer air breaks but for something that gets pulled with a pickup i like electrics best. i found that they were actually working after replacing the wiring but they were way out of adjustment and the adjusters were stuck. so it was a free fix
