  1. i have been renting car trailer a few times a year when i needed to move things that i didn't want to use this one for and only using this one for small stuff and dump runs and things like that because this trailer was in poor shape. lights didn't work deck was rotten trailer breaks not working ect. i finally decided it was time to go ahead and fix up my old trailer. only have about $250 into it so far. only thing left to figure out is why the trailer breaks are not working even after running new wires to them. going to pull the wheels off soon and check them out but worst case whole new break assembly's are not that much.
  2. government doesn't necessarily mean its a better vehicle. i know one guy bout a 10 year old pickup with 25k miles on it at a government auction and had nothing but problems transmission went out after a few months followed by the motor a few months later then after that the rear end went out. come to find out later the pickup was a state park vehicle that was used on a state park that was about 5 square miles. so it had 25k miles put on it only a few miles at a time. depends a lot too on how good state garage is. like any other fleet vehicle some may be serviced on time and taken care of out of one shop and everything left to go to manure at another. i stopped going to our government auctions quite a while ago i refuse to spend full blown retail or better at a auction. If I am going to pay a price like that I will find a equivalent at a car dealer where i can properly check it out and test drive it before purchase. most are pretty basic models fleet speced. pickups are normally cloth or vinal bench seats manual windows and door locks some even without cruse control just basic bare bones fleet specs for the most part.
  3. it seems to me anything government auction brings big money. iv gone to our local government auction a couple of times. most times i never even place a bid threw the whole auction because people are starting bids at around what my top dollar on each car is and they end up paying full blown retail or higher prices.
  4. yes for sure. looks chilly there too. it was mid 40's today here i actually worked with the shop door open for a bit today mighty fine looking work. look forward to seeing the final product
  5. looks like some nice work there. nothing like flying sparks and molten metal.
  6. yeah i will seal it when im done, my plan was to just spray it down with used motoroil after replaced the tail lights and ran all new wiring. but i decided that the new deck looked too good and i needed to spiff up the rest of the trailer, so i cleaned it all up with some flap wheels and knotted wire wheels on the angle grinder and painted the rest of the trailer with that spray can truck bed liner. threw some dot tape on it and new led lights now i think the rest of the trailer looks too good to motor oil the deck. maybe i will do linseed oil or deck sealer instead.
  7. my freightliner has bud wheels so i feel your pain there. my mack has hub centered a lot nicer. for the most part if i am getting 8 tires im at a tire shop. most the time when im busting tires its patch/repair work so i am only doing a tire or two. although not too long ago i had 8 tires on steel rims i wanted on my aluminum rims. on my mack, so i broke down 16 tires and re-mounted 8. that was a lot of work that day. but it was easier than loading up 8 mounted tires and hauling them to a tire place and then having them swapped over. and really once you get the rythem going its not too bad. really from a cost standpoint tires are about the only thing i don't mind taking to a shop for the cost involved i prefer to just let them do it. however many times you spend twice the time waiting at the tire shop than what it takes you to just do it yourself. so that's why i end up doing most my tire work.
  8. carlot now that sounds like a lot of work. I used 2x6 for the new deck the old wood is so rotten it will probably burn fast
  9. my deck on my little car trailer was about completely rotted out. had plywood patches over broken boards, and it was getting bad enough i was afraid to load anything heavy on the trailer for fear it would fall threw. it went pretty quick the old deck just about fell out of the trailer when i started pulling it out. start to Finnish including the trip to the lumber yard was about 6hrs
  10. i have a 16 and a 20 ton air over hydrolic bottle jack. I don't remember witch came from where but one came from harbor freight another from a farm store. haven't had any issues with either. havent come across anything either wont lift. my 1 inch impact is from harbor freight as well. never had any trouble busting off lug nuts with it. the 1 inch gun is a air hog though. I have a pretty big compressor but far from the biggest 60 gallon single stage 2 piston if i remember right its like 13.5 cfm at 60 psi and 11.5 @90 and normally i get to the last lug nut on a wheel and i have to wait a few seconds or so to break it loose. Sometimes if i just crack all the lug nuts first then start over taking them the rest of the way off i will get them all without having to wait so keep that in mind when you get your 1 inch gun they require a pretty hefty compressor. I also plan to get a 3/4 impact next time i make a trip to harbor freight (nearest one is 200 miles away from me) i have a really strong 1/2 impact (800 ft lb rated) and it really cranks for a 1/2 gun but sometimes i need just a little more umph but yet but cant get at it with my massive 1 inch gun
  11. wow that car is crispy. smores anyone?
  12. here is a good one for tore up tuesday. several years ago a drunk guy after stealing some guns out of a cop car stumbled onto my grandfathers property hoped in his truck and took off only made it a few miles before ending up in a police chase crashing and going down a embankment and into a tree
  13. i didn't see one on the top. i didn't really look for it either though, next time im in there i will though. as far as the stick method that is how i did it this last time. same way i do my clutch adjustments, i have a breaker bar that's just the right length of wedging the clutch pedal. If i have to do that every time on this truck then i guess thats just what i have to do but i like making common tasks as easy as possible when i can. that way things don't get skipped or put off where as if they are easy they get done every time without fail. not that two bolts and pressing the clutch pedal is that hard but the less steps the better. a lube shop would surly skip them every time.
  14. not super motivated to sell but my Mack replaced this truck, just figured i would put it up and see if there is any interest, if not i will keep it as a spare. located in Bismarck ND link to ad with description and pictures http://www.bismanonline.com/bismarck_nd/freightliner_fld_120_with_wet_kit
  15. the tire on my pusher axle is a lower than standard low pro 22.5 i want to say its a 255/70 if memory serves the drive tires in that picture my truck had standard low pro 24.5 on the drives for size reference.

  17. if i press the clutch in i found the zerk bad news is i don't see how i can put my extension hose on it.
  18. im guessing there was some major frame problems or something prior that tractor hardly pulled on it before it broke in half
  19. so normally i attach a grease hose to my TO bearing so i don't have to pull the inspection cover to grease. well as much as i hate to admit it i never got around to it till today. so i got my grease extension hose and fittings and stuff out that i had bought for the truck a couple months ago climb under and pull the inspection cover, problem is......this setup looks different than anything i am used to and i don't see a grease zerk anywhere for the t/o bearing
  20. ill try not to complain about my 25x50' shop being too small anymore....lol
