  1. Mate Aussie value liners all had set back front axles when they came out , around the time we started making "B" trains or as they are called here "B doubles" to try and get more weight over the front axle and reduce turning circle which was one of the requirments for B doubles the front axle weight laws changed around the time of release .Some people love them some love the standard R models better as the ride is a lot smoother. Valueliners out here were used for just about everything GCW up to 115 tons for road train use 350 hp maxidynes which might sound like heaps by US standards but at the time roadtrains had to geared 85km/h around 55 mph 5.73 was common gearing with 12 speed OD (they still have 90 km/h limit now) then some time in the 90's they put a sloping bonnet on and you could get the with E9 400 hp I dont know weather the 500 hp was ever standard in the Valueliner I dont no what its like in US but out here on roadtrain work in a R model the floors get that hot you cant let any part of your skin touch the bottom of the cab steel as it will burn reel quick so I think they limited Aussie Valueliners to the 400hp out of the factory I think most now that have been rebuilt would be done as 500 hp or more I think the superliners were the only trucks that went over 400hp out of the factory for the heat reason alone as there bonnet is a lot bigger a lot of operators would lift the cabs 3 inches which helped a lot with heat Most truck drivers back in the day wore thongs shorts and singlets to cope with the and by thong I dont mean G strings a thong in Australia is I think what you blokes call flip flops or some such thing I know I have gone to hop out of the truck on hot days and the center bit of the thong has let go when Im standing on the fuel tank and I've ended ass up on the ground going WTF and then thinking I hope no one saw that !! and more than once hearing some smart ass comment like "ENJOY YA TRIP" lol I stand to be corrected on all of this Paul murranji you bet me to it I was still typing with two real slow fingers lol
  2. If it was a little low on lube I wouldnt think it would make much difference because the oil is fairly flying around the box once your moving that fast if it is only one gear I would lean towards a crook bearing in the box however I would check the uni's and make sure the yokes are tight (as said above) before I would get all keen and drop the box out could also have a crook carrier bearing perhaps ? You see I have always found that with drive line harmonics??? sought of can give false indications of were the problem lies and quite often I can spend bucket loads of time looking in the wrong direction Paul
  3. I got to thinking I know I shouldnt but one thing that occured to me after posting is you might have to machine a groove in the spider like they had on a K5 or K6 inter on there back axle's and you clamp a band around so that you could run singles by putting the clamp then the spacer and just the outside dual hope this makes some sense as other wise the wheel wont sit right and our tight on the hub Paul
  4. I was sent this today to cool not to share http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Op8p8peMGTs enjoy Paul

  6. Mate these are common as this wide brown land we put them on steer axle to give us more capacity ride grip and they look a lot tougher Paul

  9. sometimes a hose can seperate on the inside and while the out side looks fine the inside can collapse and close off BUT !!!!!!! it would only be the suction hose from the tank to the pump that could cause your problem are you sure there is not a piece of plastic floating around in the tank that drifts over the pickup every now and then because one way or another when this happens you pump is getting starved for oil so it should be pretty easy to find maybe there is some poxy filter on the suction in the tank that has collapsed ? Paul
  10. for all the coin that must have been spent doing the hot rod up it would appear that someone forgot to put a hand brake on judging by the rocks at the back wheels Paul
  11. Well it sounds like you blokes have got it by the "BALL'S" as we say out here 4000 troops hey WTF are they gonna do with if it all goes pear shaped ??? Im not sure if the people at the top have thought this one threw ?????????? Paul

  19. And what you gunna call it "SHOW US YA PINK BIT'S" LOL Paul
  20. I dont think it makes a whole heap of difference with a 6 or 12 speed because most people I know who drive these dont split the lower 1,2,3&4 gears just split into high range in fifth so unless you are hauling big heaps of tons I reckon it would be fine just a bit slow getting to top speed with a big load on Paul
  21. With a Maxi torque box deep reduction is in front of the main box not behind it the box behind is range change ie high low split there is a reason that you are not suppose to split the gears with the deep reduction box and I think it may have something to do with the weight and speed that the shafts are spinning because the whole gear box is trying to change not just three gears at the end but I could be wrong There is meant to be a mechanical inter lock Im pretty sure it is under the main lid and I seem to remember that that if the shifter rod is put in 180degrees around the wrong way it then disables it I think the notch is the on the wrong side of the shaft its been a few years since I have had one of these boxes apart Paul
  22. I would think you have 44's not because they have six bolts but as far as I know 44 and up have those type of axles Here is a picture of mine because I have 58's and they have 8 stud and are chrome with a slight tint of rust these days they always weep oil out from the center where the welsh plug is have had a couple of goes at trying to fix it over the years but it dosnt drip it just sought of stays wet but not wet to touch I guess its rust proofing perhaps As you can see the spring in mine is huge it would be twice as big as 34's or 38's and at least half as big again as 44's rides as rough as guts when Im bob tail but once theres a trailer on it smooths right out I have thought about taking leaf out of the springs to try and improve the ride but then I just think man a bit Paul Paul
  23. Swishy I wonder if they do the same with a arm thru the wheel when the wheel is on the wrong side ? Paul
  24. one more thing I was thinking is if you are going to twin stick it only shift one stick at a time until you work it out a bit other wise if you stuff it up its all to easy to end up with trans stuck in neutral as the interconnecting shaft in the box can stop spinning and then the only way to get moving is to stop and start again I always find the less I rush the easier it is so slow right down with the actions on the stick as a truck is heavy it will have heaps of momentum to keep it moving but the first thing is work out what the transmission is and then you can work out how shift it Paul
  25. yep welcome aboard mate Paul
