  1. LOL.. I had it the other way around 6 years ago when I turned 21 I got my CDL i was driving a 2 stick 6 speed mack trans. when I changed jobs and went to work for my current job I was given a 96 internationa eagle with a 18 speed. I missed gears all the time because I let the revs fall to far... trent
  2. cool info ... did they put V8 emblems on superliners? I cant think of a superliner I have seen with a V8 logo?? Trent
  3. I have my truck insured thru gulfway. it cost me about $185 per year with unlimitied mileage. However its only coverd for $5000... total cost of what I have in the truck so far. I belive you can pull your own trailer as well as long as it not "for hire" it seams like everyone gets a completly diffrent quoit so maybee its just luck of the draw??? Trent
  4. I like the sound of the detroits also. I also have seen the 318s in the R700s but never in a B model. We have an old pulverizer at work with a detroit for power its equipped with a straight stack. that thing screams when I drop a bucket of dirt in the hopper. there was a pic that i think barry posted of a V12 in a superliner or RS700. Trent
  5. I know other car club sites have "pinned" or "sticky" info regarding topics that are often asked by new members or for a quick refrence. for example ...where to find the vin number?...where is my engine tag?.... what is the diffrence between a ENDT675, and ENDT673 etc... I know I have searched a few times looking for simple stuff like this. these topics are managed by the admin so that truthfull info is displayed. Just a thought Trent
  6. The vin can be looked up at any mack dealer or thry the Mack museum. Most internet sites wont bother with old trucks or cars unless you have the 1982 and newer vins numbers. The Mack dealer can get you basic info on the spot but they wont have all the proper build sheets that have your trucks exact info. send a small donation ($10 or so)to the Mack museum when you buy the truck and they will tell you what the truck had when it rolled off the assymbly line. The 2 stick 6 speed is a great robust trans. You have a 5 speed main box and the aux box gives you Lo-Direct and Reverse. this is a 1:1 trans (no overdrive) you will have 5 reverse gears and 6 foward gears if you are in a hole or in the mud with a heavy load you would shift like this.. Main box in 1st gear/aux box in Low, let the clutch out accelarate out of the hole or incline etc... when you get on flat ground you shift the aux box to Direct(leave main in first) then after that gear winds out shift the main box 2-3-4-5(6 speeds total) if you are empty or normal driving you leave the aux box in Direct and only shift the main box 1-2-3-4-5. the rear end ratio will be on the top part of the diff housing on the slant part of the diff. (most likely a 4.17 ratio as that was a pretty standard ratio ....64mph) standing at the rear of the truck looking over the rear cross member it would be visible frome here. (bring a scraper and wire brush if its oily) if you need more help let us know Trent
  7. It is soft inside but the outside looks tuff. Thats todays standards I guess and honestly if I had to live out of my truck for a week at a time that nicely finished sleeper would be very welcomed after a 16hr day in the hot sun. If mack wants to servive they need a truck like this that can compete with the "classic" look of Pete and KW
  8. Hello Gary and welcome to the board Sounds like the truck you are looking at is a little sick! a few gallons a day is very excessive oil use in my mind. If the truck has an offset cab then you are looking at a U model. If its a 71 look on the pass side frame rail just behind the tire, the vin number should be stamped there. many times cabs were replaced so the door tag is not the best way to determin the exact model. As far as engine model look on the pass side under the exhaust manafold for a plate or on top of the water pump it will be stamped ENDT675, or some thing like that. this will tell you the model and possible if its a newer engine. You can rebuild the 237hp or add a 300hp engine i\as it is basicly the same block will fit, you also could simply replace some parts on the 237 to achive 300 HP, as far as rebuilding the 237 kits are readly availible. I havent checked lately on prices so i wont comment. i do know the older Mack rebuild kits are cheeper than cat, cummings etc.... I have seen a few 237s and 300 hp engines on ebay for 1000-1500 but who knows why they were pulled. good luck Trent
  9. I think larry aka freightrain has a wig wag in his cab? as far as the buzzer its a simple presser switch that is in line with the air system. easy to replace and not to hard to get at with the dash removed or from under the dash. I just replaced mine in the R model and it took all of 20 mins trent
  10. would these rims have the "rib lines" raised, I have them on my b model and the outter rear rims have the ribs in them. just wondering Good luck lots of people would like these
  11. thanks kevin we have a 6 wheeler valueliner at work and its got the box on the outside as well, however it has a larger box for the heavy flotation tires and it points the shaft at the 11 oclock position towards the radiator, then it has a goffy 5" shaft at a 45 deg angle towards the cab roof then another shaft parrell to the frame to the steering colum... looks way to complex for my liking. I will get a pic of this box tonight and maybee you will be able to tell if they are simmilar Thanks Trent
  12. few questions I want to add a power steering unit to my RS700 I have found a used R model steering unit but it was bolted to the inside of the frame rail as R models have the frame rails wider apart at the front of the truck. My RS700 has the frame rails that are the same distance apart front to back. looking at it it seams as if I would need to mount the steering box on the outside of the frame rail. was there a special steering unit for RS models or a diffreent mounting methoud? any help is greatfull Trent
  13. I shift like Fred does. I only use the clutch if its hard to get out of gear or when im at a full stop and trying to start. If you are driving at 50 mph you will not be able to down shift to 4th untill you slow down some more (it might go in if you force or bang it in but you will over speed the engine...not good) depending on your rear end ratios (likely 4.17s) and the governed engine RPM (likly 2100) 40-42 MPH is when you can down shift to 4th. the RPM gauge will help with learning but after you get the hang of it its all feel from there. I have a 2300rpm engine 4.17 rears with my 5 speed and I down shift as following 5th - 4th is around 42 moh 4th - 3rd is around -30mph 3rd - 2nd is around 18mph 2nd - 1st is near 8 mph and like Fred said the engine rpms need to match the trans speed at the next lower gear you select so when you pull it out of 5th gear mash the pedal to the floor quickly and "feel" for the grind with light press on the stick in the 4th gear position. Just an FYI bob tailing is sometimes more difficult to lern shifting as there is no weight to keep the truck rolling at a steady speed. let us know how it goes Trent
  14. THERE IS A GOD!!!!! just last night I was talking about macks failure to sell a flashy road unit... This is thye answer and great step foward to help mack sales. please foward any info on standard options and any other info about this Rawhide. very intrested to see how sales are with this truck Nice looking rig!!!
  15. I do like the set back axels but dont like the visions. I honestly think mack has dropped the ball on its styling. most owner operaters want a truck to look as good as it performs. when I first saw the vision from far I thought it was a CH with a dent in the middle of the hood..LOL I look at the new petes and KWs and they offer both a plane jane city truck and a flashy road unit. It seams with all the mack road units all they are is city trucks with sleepers attached. I would rather see a more "classic" look offered with macks current line up. Take the R model for example. Most people dont know its almost 40 years old. Mack was a leader in styling for so many years, I wish it was the same way today.
  16. I have the puff limiter on a air switch mounted on the dash. bob tailing I notice an increase in accelaration from a dead stop or low rpm. when the truck is loaded it just feels the same. check your Fuel press if its good check your fuel feed lines from the tank. sometimes rust can collect in the lines or air from a crack will hinder flow to the pump. Trent
  17. are you useing the clutch? or are you downshifting "by feel"?
  18. my 711 has the starter on the pass side down low.
  19. Just uploded a few of the show pics to my album http://bigmacktrucks.invisionzone.com/inde...w_album&album=4
