  1. Good info Frend. I thought all tip turbines were water after cooled you could use a remote water source and pump to better cool the water . I know some dragracers that do this. the set back is that a seapret radiator, pump, water lines and other misc things need to be added and it will take up some space under the hood. also the OEM aftercooler may need to be modified to not let engine the hotter coolant in.
  2. sorry you dident find the issue Jim. I went to mack today and ordered the cab bushings to see if that helps any?? I will reply back when they are installed. P.S. I had big time "scrambled eggs" doing the semi truck pull last night LOL
  3. the newer mack engines just have a front mount Intercooler the tip turbine macks from the 70s/80s had a aftercooler mounted on the side of the engine and they used coolant to help cool intake temps trent
  4. Truck pull was great. it was my first time and I managed a 220 foot pull or so. It almost was an all mack event except 3 petes and 2 kws and a international snuck in the back door. No boken axels so it was a good night The red E9500 superdog from WI won the event with a full pull!!! I had the lowest HP and least amount of gears to use and was withing 10 feet of the avg pullers. i had to use 2nd gear as 3rd is to tall when the weight comes up on the tandems I might use 3rd next year just to see if the momentum will get me farther?? Trent
  5. You can contact the mack museum and give the serial number of the truck. they will provide you all the info of what the truck had when it left the assembly line. if its only got that many miles it sounds like a good deal. im not shure what trans it has as some times people replaced things over the years. A "standard" R model from that era would likely be equiped with a 237hp-250 hp, non overdrive 2 stick 6 speed or single stick 5 speed, with 34,000 rear ends. all trucks are speced diffrnetly but that combanation seams fairly common. at least here in chicago most R model macks with mack transmissions that had 2 sticks will be a simple 5 speed main and the aux box will have Direct/low and reverse/ giving you 6 speeds foward and 5 in reverse. if it is a 5x4 that would be a quad box and you will have 20 gears. My 78 mack has anti lock brakes but they have been unhooked for what looks like years. On my mack there should be a silver alum box mounted foward of the first rear axel driver side. thats where mine is if you need quicker info and cannot wait a few weeks for the museum to get you the info. get to your local mack dealer and ask them if they have any records of your truck. Good luck Trent
  6. they are regular light bulbs. I also put 2 oarnge bulbs between the air tanks. it looks good at night. the red lights reflect on the rear cab wall and stacks . makes it look a little evil
  7. what engine does it have fred? is it used in HD or off road use Most of the B models I have seen that had Diesel engines came with 10 or more gears I know some fire truck B models had 5 speeds but they were gas jobbers
  8. If you plan on pulling anything with a B model I would not install a 5 speed unless you have a maxidyne engine. the turmodynes engine needs more gears to keep the engine in the power band when pulling a load
  9. are you planing to pull a semi trailer or just your race car gooseneck trailer? I thought I remember you saying you were going to add a 5th wheel again
  10. LOL do you just slap one glad hand on and lift the trailer? I did that a few nights at UPS when I was 18. they needed spotters for the X-mas rush and all the oldtimers (30 somethings at the time) were complaining that I was makeing thim look bad spotting 4-5 trailers more per hour.
  11. I understand and fully agree its for the officers safety to get in the blind spot of the driver but I just think they can easly pull off to a safe location to conduct the matter. and yes granny likely ran a red light or thought she was on a freeway LOL trent
  12. I agree Terry! I drive over the road for a living and 95% of the truckers I see all change lanes to give the emergency viechels and cops the space they need . Unfortunely cars rarely move over with us and often get suprised when we "close the door on them" glad the cop and motorest were ok. one thing that does piss me off is when officer Joe pulls grandma over on a busy highway for a simple violation and he feels the need to park 1/2 his cruiser in the traviling lane. it just causes a back up and often the car behind me ,tailgating or not, will nearly hit the cruiser because they are not expecting a car to be parked halfway on the roadway. fire trucks wreckers or an accedent I se no problem to block a lane for safty space. but for a ticket thats just plane wrong and unsafe!! Trent
  13. 1
  14. What are your other money draining hobbies? This is my 91 Mr2 turbo 280HP 2000lbs best 1/4 mile to date is 12.2 sec
  15. Hmmmm... Bulldozers .... lowboys .........WAKE UP i live in a town house! LOL I have a Import "hot rod" 1991 toyota MR2 2.0L turbo 280whp and only 2000lbs very fun in the corners.
  16. the B model that one the show had a turboed 711 or a ENDT673? I asked him but forgot already it was dynoed at 250HP so it was juced a little for more power. it was all stock looking and had chrome in all the right places. the only other engine I have seen like that was of that red B model with green frame. There were lots of trick looking petes there but that B model just had more class than any other truck. best thing about it is it started as a work horse and ended as a show truck. the petes looked like they had never seen a day of hard driving. It was a great show and would highly recomend it. Trent
  17. you might be right Larry, that would alow the window to go down more. I pulled the R model panels out recently and they are very simmilar to a b model but dont have that stop at the bottom.
  18. do a search for gulfway in Flordia my trucks insured for 5k with a trailer
  19. dash panel for a B model? if yes the 4-5 screws holding it to the dash remove and then you can get a hand in the back to remove the tach and speedo cables. after thay are undone you should have more room to work with to get the guages out. The gauges will need to be removed one by one as they slide in from the front of the panel. hope this helps trent
  20. I have not done it in a few years but if remember you need to remove the door lock and door handel. remove the screws for the locking latch on the side of the door. roll the window all the way down remove the inner window and door handels. with all this removed lift the panel up about 3 inches and then when the bottom clears pull down and outward. hope I diddent miss anything trent
  21. Whats up Mike the show is at 7 pm on friday the 29th (this upcoming friday) If you dont make it I hope to see you in union for the show Trent
  22. Hi rob I know we spoke last mont those camelback rears are still sitting in the corner of the yard if you still need those brake and spring parts free for the takeing Trent
  23. sounds like we have simmilar issues Jim. I drive the druck once a week some times more and its exactly like you discribe between 30-40 mph. I have (2) steers that went on the front axel today and the drives went to the rear axels. I still notice the cab shacking but not as violently as before. I am thinking the rear cab rubbers(non air ride cab ) might be worn so thats the next thing I will look at. So far I have replaced all the shocks. 2 front tires and 2 drives. I may try lowering the front tires to 85psi and see if that helps? a friend of mine has his at 85 psi on his B model and said it helps a little? let me know if they find something. hope its a cheep fix Trent
