  1. Larry Just thinking out lound here.. could you install air bags to the rear of the new springs? and then bolt an upper plate to the bottom of the frame rails . would the front hanger alow the spring to pivot a little?I know time is the issue here and it may take a full weekend to finish the job? Trent
  2. The only problem with the digatal image prints is that the sun fades them farly fast.(1 year) atleast with the ones friends have recently bought. I found a company that would reproduce the logo with green, red, brown and dark brown but the set up cost were high with all the colors. He had also said that they could make digatal image prints but they fade quickly.
  3. SOUND LIKE FUN! JUST BE GLAD THAT IT DIDENT GIVE YOU REAR STEERING!
  4. In my aera Lowboy work is the ideal way to make mony inthe construction bizz. Dump trucks can make steady cash but the lowboy makes more hour for hour of work. Depending on the state or who you work for will determin the min amount of coverage needed. You likely need to add cargo insurance to your policy as you are now hauling "cargo". The truck sounds set up for most lowboy work is it double framed? thats a bonus if so. You need to know what type of machines you will be primarly moving. Some lowboys have deeper and longer decks that may be needed for clearance of certain machines. a 20" deck may be to short for some machines so make shure you ask the customers what they have. from what I see in my aera a used lowboy ranges from 20K and up, New they are around 40K and up. The gooseneck diffrences in trailers can make life easy or hard on you depending on the set up. You will possibly find air or manual pin latching and block hight adjustments. just look at the little diffrences. good luck Trent Blasco
  5. It is sad. The recent mack model names sound like golf clubs. Granite and Titan are more in line but still lacking a little.
  6. LOOKS COOL EXCEPT FOR THE MIRRORS. props for something diffrent
  7. I have never done any maitance on a trans top cover so cant comment on the parts. I always liked a little slop in the aux stick. It made faster and manytimes smoother forward to reverse shifts possible. The first R I drove full time had a aux stick so sloppy that I could go from low low/1 to reverse/1 with out the cluth and no scratches! only time I used a clutch was from a dead stop.
  8. I carry a craftsman 130+ socket set about 30+ diffrent wrenches misc pliers, cutters, screwdrivers etc.. brake air hose fittings. air hose to reach the rear of the trailer hammers, etc.. The one thing I want to mount to the nose of the trailer is a spare tire carrier. My delema is that I have 24.5 budds on the tractor and 22.5 daytons on the dump trailer.what to I carry for a spare. my luck is what ever spare I carry will not be the correct one when a tire blows out. I lost a steer tire last year and that would have saved me a few hudred dollars if I had a spare. I also dont have any more room on the rails of my tractor to install a 2nd tool box for the jack and blocks of wood. I need to relocate the air drier and then can fit another 3' tool box. If I traveled cross country I would have all the stuff in order. but I work localy Trent
  9. Ram tubes will let more rain in so they are better used in dryer climates. Alot of garbage trucks had them around here not shure why? There was a company that had a stainless or chrome ram tube and then anoter company had a cheeper plastic version. You need to know your air cleaner inlet ID as diffrent engines had diffrent sizes.. I do like the looks of them on the R models. Trent
  10. Normal driving just leave the compond stick in direct. shift the main 1-2-3-4-5 in the mud or offroad put the compound in low low, main in 1st, crawl out to level hard ground and then shift the compound into diect. some will keep the compound in low low wile shifting the main from 1-2-3 to get some speed up then put the compound back into direct.

  13. I think the E9 engine data tags are found on the pass side valve cover. Its been a few months sience looking under the hood???
  14. it depends on the year. Im not shure what years had what color but the 4 I have always seen were Light green/blue, Red, Gold and but most were oily black LOL I know the gold ended with the epa getting involved but I dont recall the year. Someone else here will chime in. Trent
  15. I brought my used ones to my mack dealer and they sold me ones that were for a R model cab but were of the same size as my B model.
  16. I put in $100 last weekend for a short run. $100 got me 20 gallons @$4.99. a gallon. Prices are up and down here one place had $4.78 yesterday and now its at $4.85 today??? down the street its been holding at $4.70
  17. They are for model and drive line specs R was the model RS600L was a westen made R with steel frame and light weight componets RL700L was a westen made R with alum frame and light weight componets 600 had standard hod lengths 700 had a longer hood RB was a set back axel DM was a "dump mixer" designed chassis The digits in the middle R"685"ST would stand for the engine type Maxidyne, Econodyne, etc...the ST is six wheel tractor Its was very easy to desiginate a mack back in the day now all this new mack numbers..CU, CXU, CTP, CHU,GU,CHN is Crap. it makes no sence and when people cant under stand what it is they dont want it!!! 3P Wake up these rookies at Mack.! End of my Rant hope it helps!!!
  18. you can split all 5 gears on the stick...that gives you 10 forward speeds the dash swith puts the trans in low reduction then the splitter on the gear lever can split that gear giving you 2 more speeds in "low Low" thats a total of 12 speeds Its a great trans as you have all the low gears and a good OD. Normal driving I would shift it 1-2-3-4 than split 5.. almost like a 6 speed. then in the hills you can split the gears to keep RPMs/speed up. They are getting scarce and expencive to repair!
  19. RB600 most of the RB around here were straight trucks. But in its final days alot of people ordered these as tractors as they were built about a year longer after the RDs were dropped.
  20. nice find!!! whats the plans for it?
  21. sad indeed.. I spoke with him sevral times regarding my truck, dads truck and other trucks owned by friends... alwasy got me the build info and anything els he could find... a great guy indeed... trent
  22. it also burns clean.
  23. WOW!! HOW DID THIS STORY END???
  24. I think it would send a strong message if a strike lasted 3-4 days and then a threat of another strike to follow if things dont improve. but as some have already said.. there are more wheel holders today then O/O on the road. That right there would just give the big companys more freight to haul and force there employees to work. this is the issue that needs to be addressed before a strike. Teamster or not we would have to all just force the trucks to stop loading or hauling for a few days just to get the message out. I worked at UPS 10 years back when they went on a strike for 2 weeks. it made an negative impact for shure but it also woke people up at the top and nation wide. We can all see that in todays world everyone only cares about themselves. many people complain about gas prices only to get too and from work or play. they dont even consider that trucks, trains and planes that bring them goods and to warm places use fuel. When airlines pay for high fuel cost they only pass a little on to the consumer then take planes out of service layoffs to save money. When american driving jobs are lost to low wage immagrant workers it does not give the avg American the full effect as the companys cost savings mainly just target the higher dollar employees. Now if we could shut down 50-60% of the freight and pass on the full effect to the avg American it may open there eyes to what can happen when freight stops. maybee then they will start to think about the big picture and how a economy works. I am glad to say that I have not had to look for food or wait for simple things at a store. but at the same time I think this country needs a lesson in how things work. Just my .02 Trent
  25. SD40T2 I like the first gen diesels and late model local steam for my size layout. If I used a big boy on this layout It would be able to pull about 5 freight cars before it took up the whole passing sidings! LOL I keep it simple with 4 axel diesels and 2-8-2 are as big as I go with steam. Small units are alot better for this size layout. I recently bought a MRC DDC controller and love it. as a kid I had a large layout that had 40 some blocks to keep trains running. what a nightmare! this DCC system is so easy and makes railroading more fun and less headaches. Fire mack I have a few b models on the layout. look for the red B under the coal hopper and a Yellow B pulling up the hill. I also Have a few "NEW" R models running around Trent
