  1. ill try to explain. the outside filterd air enters the turbo, then it is forced fed into the boost pipe that runs over to the side mounted charge cooler. there is a "bleed pipe" that comes off this boost pipe and sends some of the boosted air into the tip turbine. the rest of the air in the boost pipe goes through the cooler fins and into the engine to be used in combustion. the air that entered the "bleed pipe" enters the turbine, speeds it up under boost, and is ehausted to the outside air. As the other side of the turbine spins it draws in cool filtered air in and routes it over the charge cooler fins to cool the boosted air on the other side of the core. this air is also exhausted to the out side after it has passed through the core. the only air that enters the engine comes from the turbo and makes it past the "bleed pipe". I think it was the first charged cooled diesel engine but someonce can correct me if im wrong. They were compact and did not take up any more room infront of the engine. I think after length laws relaxed and bigger engines evolved the larger front mount air to air became the standard. Also to remove all that piping to perform a simple repair is a real PITA. Hope this helps?
  2. At first I look I thought it was a early 70s RS700L but after Looking at the hood it does look like a R700. the fenders drop down past where the batt boxes should be. The RS700 fenders stop and a splash guard is used. it looks like they did alot of little mods to the truck. It has a diffrent bumper, batt boxes removed cab/sleeper work. that fuel tank is a little small for a road truck and not sure if its a mack tank, even has the tall air cleaner tube. Nice old R tho! Trent
  3. very cool Find there. never seen a R model with an "integrel" speeper added to it. looks pretty classy to me
  4. thats a tuff question there. Im a 100% mack man so It would be an easy pick for me but the choices you have are about even. The oskosh are tuff trucks. Meyer meterial uses both mack and oskosh and I have to say they both do the jobs just as well. I think you would like macks automatic powerdivider in the mud but the 8LL might give you better overall reduction? the mack looks better in my opinion and if you already have had good luck with Mack you knight as well stick with them. The DM and DMM model familys are one of the toughest trucks mack has built so you know what your getting into. I know that the transfercase is expencive to repair but both trucks have them. The maxidyne is better for low rpm tq so thats a bonus. Regardless i dont think you can go wrong with either truck Trent
  5. I think I may still have the tank off my 2nd truck that was air start. next time im in the yard I will have to see if its still there? Its yours if you pay for the freight. This was off a 1965 B61 Trent

  7. I does look like a bracket but the thickness suggest a hook. look at the front bumper chains. try that with one of todays trucks...
  8. another reason why I stick with a Mechanical!!! Sounds like tipical troubles with water getting into places it should not. I can see how water getting into the plug would cause issues but a good connector should keep the water on the outside of the pins and away from the ECM internals. It may be worn wires that are letting water in? Hope you get the problem fixed.
  9. Thad I found this http://www.allmetalssupply.com/5_bar.htm The one in your pic is considered an 4 bar diamond plate". Looks like it has more slats to better hold wet rain and ice . This alows you to fall on your butt faster and not know what or why it happend. With the standard diamond plate you would look at the wet plate, then lightly step on the wet plate, dance around and then fall down knowing you were going to do so anyways!
  10. Shes Looking good rob!
  11. those emblems are scarce I Just hope Barry will be around to run the "R Model store" when all these old R models are gone and the resto parts for them are in demand
  12. I cant find the car in that picture?
  13. wheres Larry at? I think he stays at the Holliday Inns all the time? Trent
  14. I blew up a battery last summer. heard lots about it never had it happen to me. Got a whole new respect for them now. I was always carefull around them and always put the cables on before the power was pluged in. still didet matter. the charger was an old one, powerd by a Briggs 5 horse and it somehow let a small spark out as the cables went on. I think the coil or magneto on the engine was the culpret? blew up right below my hand. I had gloves on and sunglasses so no harm done. but I did get a sore finger out of it. every time I hook up a batt now I look away and close my eyes
  15. AIR PUMP IS THE ISSUE
  16. hey hey hey, NO ONE SAID ANTHING ABOUT WHO HAS THE MOST KIDS
  17. Whos Hotter? I cant answer that as they are 2 completly diffrent people. One I could take home to mom the other if I took home would likely be able to kick my a$$. and I kinda like both of those types LOL Regardless I do know that Anglena would match my Black Mack very nicely. Trent
  18. I hear its tuff to get loans even with good credit right now. If you have had a CC or car loan before and can show you have no debt or Loans you may be in luck. If you can find a bank owned home they may help you. good luck and let us know Trent
  19. I know your right
  20. yep that 5 speed was a common trans for the over the road and city guys. nothing bad about it but its not that good for off road use... as you already know I have the 2 stick 6 speed and run in the off road with it. there have only been a few times that a lower gear would have helped me get out of a hole. but then I would run into the issue that drive shafts will twist off. regardless I have only got the truck stuck only once in a dump and was pushed out by a dozer Trent
  21. if its a 70s model you could get the 2 stick 6 speed or air shift 6 speed. both have direct drive in 5th. they give you a great low low gear, there was even a 6 speed that had a ultra low low gear for those guys that like to realy test the thickness of mud. as a bonus you get 5 reverse gears as well!!! Check ebay I see them sell for as low as $500 trent
  22. First we need to know what trans it is. their were a few diffrent 5 speeds if your not sure of the trans tell us what rear end ratios you have that will help. A cheap swap would be a 6 speed. their was the older 2 stick 6 speed and a later air shift 6 speed that was commonly used with 4.17 rears. both good for about 63MPH in top gear at 2100 there was also the T2060 it was an over drive 6 speed but needed very slow rears to get the low reduction. it was also good for about 63MPH with 5.xx rears If you currently have a T2050 you could also use a 7 or 8 speed to give you 2 real low speed crawling gears. and yet still do 63 MPH. or if you want the dogs bone get the Mack 12 speed over drive. parts are harder to get and harder to find but that trans will let you crawl down low and get you home fast Let us know what you have Trent
