  1. Chuck I have seen a guy do this at a dump LOL this guy was pulling a 24' 1/4 frame end dump. He had the box in the air and trying to get some stuck clay out of the box. I cam in just after it happened but the story was that After his 2-3 trys in forward with no results he put her in reverse. back he went, slammed on the brakes, the rear rear trailer tandem dug in, the forward tandem folded back up with the 1/4 frame and he managed to set the tailgate on the ground. We call it a "rocket man" one problem now was that he had no weight on his drives to get it back down! If I recall it picked up the rear of the tractor? Trent
  2. After they raised the tolls back in 2004 I simply stopped paying them. a slap of mud on both front and rear plates and Im "free" They can raise them all they want now. I payed them kindly for years when it was reasonable now its my turn to collect. I will have too admit that the open road tolling that came shortly after 2004 has cut my travel times some Just a fyi ... they did raise the tolls for cars slightly a few years back. Catch me if you can! Trent
  3. Welcome to the site well value is 100% in the eye of the beholder. Old trucks dont seam to bring as much as an old car but they can bring in a pretty penny. I have seen old trucks sell for $30,000 one day and $5,000 the next? All depends on who is bidding I guess? You can have it apraised like an old car and that will give you an ideal of what it worth. but as said before it all will depend on the people looking and what they think. Might also ask over at The American Truck Historical Society http://www.aths.org/ and ask there as well. Alot of us here are members there as well. Trent
  4. I think Convoy was released in 1978? they also cobbled up the movie trucks along the course of the movie. Regardless it was around this time (1978) that the dog mirrors became standard. I think this was around the same time that the round fuel tanks became standard as well? My Dad had a 78' R685St and I recall him saying it was the first year that the R model came with round fuel tankes and bulldog Mirrors as standard oprions?. Im sure we will get a guru here soon and give us the 100% right answer?!!! Trent
  5. I think the bubble back is correct for your year. If I recall around 79-81s is when the Dog mirrors appeared? Trent
  6. Hey great pics and at least you got the right truck hauling the old boat! it looks as if the bed was chained down also you may have been fine up the rest of the hill!
  7. let us know if mack has any panels left. last year I was told NLA for all the R model interior parts?
  8. Yea the firsr old B was Yellow an Ex Reliable wrecking out of winfield IL the other B was a green ex celli trucking The RS was baby blue an ex owner op
  9. I have a mag with a write up in it how to service the old shocks/ I will see If i can find it.I think it had contact numbers to source old parts? Trent
  10. an old Jack Gray truck. A friend was working for them about 8 years ago? nice find Rob!!
  11. Great vid. We started pulling in the street semi class about 2 years ago. Check out some of the vids on you tube under my board name.
  12. Brad I have one for you but it may need work/ it was out of an 89 R model? Its at the yard and its yours if you want to mess with it. it needs an output shaft and misc parts. its still in one pice but... call me for details. Trent
  13. be carfull with leaking batterys. I just had one blow up on me last week from just a very week spark. Luckly I had gloves and sunglasses on. Always herd about them exploding but never had one do it on me. If its leaking they may be overcharging and or have a bad ground somewhere? If they still have the date on them check for the warrenty. just be carefull and dont stand over it when working on a bad one.
  14. Any of those 3 sencers will trigger the shutdown light. If you have good oil press, proper water level and water temps are normal and the light is still on, one of the sencors might be bad? Most times I find that after the hot summer with an older mack that has no overflow coolant tank, the water level is a little low and needs half a gallon. just my .02 Trent
  15. empty the fuel tanremove the fuel inlet line and put in a bucket with fresh fuel replace the fuel filter and add some ATF oil in the filter housing check the air cleaner for dirt and bees nest etc.. crank the engine for a few sec with the throttel stop out. if it spins good and free. push the throttel stop in and crank untill it fires. The injection pump and injectors can be found fairly easy so if its bad you will find out fairly quickly when you spin it over. Both macks that I have started after sitting for a few years fired right up after I added fresh fuel and filters Good luck~
  16. I would find a good pump guy. We took our 237 pump and had them tune it to give max fuel flow and more RPMs. You will be very suprised what a stock pump will do when opend up all the way!!! Im not sure what a stock 237 gets for boost but ours was pushing 2x more (30lbs) after we had the pump turned all the way up. Throttel responce is like a blown chevy v8 LOL! I would think the stock E9 turbo would keep up with max fuel from a turned up stock pump. so try the pump first If you want more fuel than the stock pump can push you will need to get diffrent barrels and misc pump internals. Thats when the big money is spent. Our inline pump cost us about $350 to be turned up all the way on a bench tester. After you go above stock pump work the turbo and injectors are next. the more fuel you inject the more air you will need to burn it.
  17. 10-4 on that !
  18. bent forks or shift rails? can you pull the top cover to inspect it?
  19. sounds like you have a maxidyne diesel ENDTB675 EN= Engine D=diesel T= turbocharged B=? 675 = code for the engine model,in your case its a maxidyne. its a high torq rise engine. its a good strong little engine if maintained right.
  20. Great job Barry! looks like it was a success despite the rain. It hasend stoped raining here for 3 days so dont feel too bad!! The titan is a monster next to that R model. When I saw it the titan in Vegas it was hard to compare its size as there was not another truck next to it. I knew it was big but...wow! look how the top of the engine is in comparison to the top of the cowl! Whats the word on the titan as far as units already sold/built. Is the damand for them increasing even with hard times whats the cost on a day cab unit?
  21. Lund makes 2 styles of fiberglass visors for the R model. Im not aware of any name brand companys that make stainless visors. The Guys from down uneder may have leads for metal visors Trent
  22. nice looking B you have there Hot Rod. I like your color combo it got that tuff look to it with the visor and all. thanks for those pics werkhorse!
  23. very impressive. Right truck for the job!
  24. looking good Do you run up Rt 12 near Wacounda IL? I think I have seen that R model a bunch of times up near me? I would Touch up those fuel tanks and paint the rear rims and it will look like a show truck! Trent
  25. Well im shure most of us here have more opinions on the B and R models as they have been around longer. I have Never heard anything bad about the CL. I always thought of them as "top dogs of the 90s C models" I have never driven or wrenched on one so cant give any advice. I do know the CH models were good trucks if you maintained them. Biggest complaint I hear about the late 90s macks were with the electroincs. is yours a computer controled engine? Your truck looks as if its got some nice heavy specs. It should serve you very well with all the tried and proven mack components
