  1. On my RS700 i have an older style latch set up(the one with the round latch end)that is always troublesome. to make it worse some of the bolts that hold the door catch have snaped off in the door frame. making it difficult to open/close as the catch moves around. is there any way to upgrade the latch system to the "current" R model style? It seams that the older latch set up is a PITA to keep it aligned and operating. the newer latch you can open with ease with just one finger. Or is there any easy way to set up my current latch system. I hate having to roll down the window and open the door from the out side!!!
  2. I had a panel remade by a local guy. I aske him to freshing up the old one as it had tears at the bottom and around the crank/door latch handel. The bottom part has carpet and was in good shape so I just had him make the upper part. My main concern was to save the old dog logo and keep a stock look. I asked him to give it his best and I am 110% happy. he had some of the same blue leather in stock so he just used his stock to save me some $$ If you are intrested I will see if he can make more panels on an as needed basis. I belive he said $150-175 was what he would like for each panel. considering our options its not a bad deal. I told him I would bring in a rear cab and headliner panel to see if he can remake those as well? What do ya think? Thanks Trent
  3. im 28 but have the same tast in music as most "older" (i use that term lightly!) folks. Floyd,Stones, the who, led zepplin, good steady beats for pulling them hills. I also like some of the later classic rock in the likes of ACDC,the police, sabbath, kis etc.. I was a 90s genaration kid so alternitive or grunge as some call it was popular. Alice in chains,Stone temple pilots,Metallica,Tom petty as long as its Rock, good blues, jazz and it holds a good rythem I can listen to it. I dislike rap and pop as its a joke to me. Theres no tallent involved to dub inyour voice behind an electric background drums guitar and bass. The "bling bling" rappers are the worst. how did we let that happen? trent
  4. I remember seeing PAI offer old Quadbox parts and possible old 673 parts? I belive PAI is out of GA? do a search for them if Mack or anyone els no longer has your parts for the old dog
  5. looks like a nice old dog i have only seen one of these in person and it was a mess of a truck. how popular were these?
  6. looking real good Dan!! looks to be pretty much spot on to the movie truck..Now get the trailer ready and you will have a great combo Trent
  7. What are some cool or diffrent mack parts that you liked back in the day but cant buy from dealers anymore. sorry B and R models dont count as Parts i liked the old logo red/green/white mudflaps.
  8. "engines are made at the Volvo Powertrain Hagerstown, Md., factory" that sums it up for us!
  9. Too far for me but congrats and get some pics of both trucks and girls for us
  10. To pull the head remove the rockershaft, evenly lousen the bolts to relive the valve spring tension. pull the pushrods out and undo the head bolts. If everything is removed off the intake or exhaust it should come off. Or if your "old school" you can pull both heads off with the Intake, exhaust still bolted to the heads ...just bring a hoist and pull the top of the engine off in one pice !
  11. Welcome to the site It varies state to state regarding CDL and antique trucks. In some states an antique plated truck can be drive with out a CDL but some states may require it if it has air brakes or is over said weight etc.. check with you local state laws.. Most of us here consider it a good idea just to have a CDL for that one cop that may hasel you and confuses you as a comercial truck and not antique. I have heard of only a few people getting hastled hauling a trailer with other antiques on it... I have never weighed my B model but my R model is 15,500 likely a little heavier than the B? Its getting harder to find B models out in the open but the internet makes up for it. hope you find a good project Trent
  12. Thad you can still get the lines from mack. I just bought new injectors and lines a few months backfor my 285. like said above some injectors used diffrent styles of feed and return methods so check befor you buy. But I do think that the injector line routings from ENDT673 / 237s /285s etc... are all the same. havent looked real close but they look all the same?????
  13. thad the air compressor is water cooled and oil lubed. as said before when you put the air compressor back on check to see if ther is a little hollow tube that is in the spline (love joy coupling) in the acc drive housing. this is where the compressor gets its oiling to the rod and crank journals on in the air compressor. the oil return will flow out of the compressors crank case and back down into the engine pan. I was able to get my fuel filter replaced at NAPA. Simply remove the hose on top and unscrew the top nut off the canister. after the cap is off I belive the filter slides out. There should be a rubber o-ring under the cap to seal the housing. I also was able to get a new oil filter from Napa... the primer pumps always rust. You can remove them and soak in PB blaster and see if that helps. Most of the time you need to dissasamble it and clean it up. or buy a new one as I think they have an updated version. Trent
  14. THOSE ARE SOME GREAT LOOKING MACKS
  15. the E9 (V8) had a engine brake set up option. not shure if they are still availible from mack? The V8s have a diffrent exhaust note than the 6 cyls and yes they do sound like they are miss fireing. I never liked the flutter sound but many others do. If you dont have a vibration im shure its running fine. The one thing I do like about them E9s is the power that they had. Compared to todays engines a good running E9 can still pull with the best of them. I belive in the US 500HP was the highest rated E9 availible. over in the out back they had higher HP ratings so if your still not happy at 400HP you could easly squeez some more power out of your "de-tuned" 400HP E9 Welcome to the site
  16. Sorry to hear of your friend. thats never a good thing to deal with.. You were 5 mins from my house when you stopped in Lakemoor would have invited you over for a quick chat before you hit the road. The engine sounds like it has been sitting. to pull the injectors I would almost say you will need the slide hammer to get them out. They are a real PITA if they rust up a little.
  17. Joe. my friend and I will be there with "Last Call". We may have another guy coming with his R model if he has the time Thanks Trent
  18. There was an aftermarket fiberglass hood for the B61 and LT models. This topic came up a wile back and I do belive it was said that Mack did tinker with there own fiberglass hoods near the end of b model production. it makes sence as I have seen 2 diffrent virsions for the B61 models.
  19. Nice truck ...keep her running! If no one can help here ....there was an aftermarket company that still offered some parts for the old quads. the company is PAI out of swuanee Ga. Search google for the phone number. they had a few stores here in chicago that sold aftermarket parts but they have recently closed there retail outlets. they may have retail stores elseware?
  20. for the amount of wire in these cabs its not a huge deal to re wire them up. think about it. new guages would have back lit lights on each one or use the old guage where one bulb lights up 2 guages. you have an amp or alt guage/ fuel/water temp/lights/marker lights/ turn signals/ start switch and a few others. to start get a painless wiring fuse panel http://performance.alternatefuelsracing.com/painless.html (12-CIRCUIT UNIVERSAL FUSE BLOCK # 30001) and run the wire your self. I feared if I bought an aftermarket harness that The lenghts would be incorrect and if I had to add soemthing to the truck later there were going to be stray wires anyway. just my .02 trent
  21. first slam your hand in the screen door of your house on the way out to the truck. this puts you inthe correct mood! They can be a Real PITA to get louse. My B had the wheel so rusted on that even an engine hoist could not get it louse, i ended up damaging it and just ended up cutting through it and got a diffrent one. As rob said lousen the nut but leave it on the end of the shaft so that it dont go flying around as it comes louse. put some PB blaster on the splines, put the washer or a bolt down in the shaft to avoid mushrooming the shaft end. try hitting it with a BFH as someone pulls up on it. I have also some times used a bottle jack to aid in braking it louse. Put a 4x4 on the floor, jack on top of the 4x4 and then a 2x4 cut to the correct length to help put bressuer on it as you smack the washer/bolt on the shaft end. some are easy some will make you pull your hair out!!! Trent
  22. Its a great looking mack and I Would think again about selling it. but to each his own. looks like It has many of the factory bells and wistles that everyone wants. and heavy haul. that adds to the price grately. It just depends how bad someone wants it. list it high and if it sells you got a good sale price. If not its still yours to sell later. I would think 50K is about what most people would pay. so try for the big spenders and list it for 60K+ Just a fyi these old rare trucks seam to becoming collector pices. It may be nice some day down the road to just say you have one ....just for bragging rights!!!!
  23. HA HA! thats funny!!! a little 237 pulling like a big v8.. just tell who ever asks that its a 673!!! or just put some v8 emplems on the hood and dont talk about it. Ya we were bummed out a bit about the canceled pull but it would have been a mudslide if they kept going. I told PJ that I was not going to pull with the RS as it would have been a wet repete just like lake County was. If you hear of a pull let us know Trent

  25. thanks for the tips. after more thinking last week I decided to buy it today The trailer is 22' long with a 4 stage hoist. the guy who owned it used it for concrete and said he never had an issue with it gtting stuck. at one time he had side boards and said it would haul a normal load with no problems. That was my only concern as I dont want to get a load of stone and only put 2/3 a load on. The tires are real good but the brakes are real bad so I had to back them way off to get it home. The tail lights need some work as its a rats nest of wires back there. Hopefully in the next month I can get it up to good working order and go haul some dirt. The trailer was located near the White Sox ball park in south Chicago have no clue about the postal trailers? Trent
