  1. It was 43 years ago today! I was 14 years old, living in Sandusky county (about 30 min. south of Toledo). We didn't have power for several days, and of course our house was all electric so we had to stay with a neighbor until they got our electric back on. We didn't have school for a week or two, and then had to have split sessions at the junior high because the pipes froze and burst in the high school. This photo is from the Mansfield News Journal; truck driver James Truly was stuck in his cab for almost 5 days until the National Guard rescued him.
  2. That's cool...you have a seat out of an H model!
  3. Are you serious...$1,126.00?
  4. Interesting looking sleeper. That was a fine truck in it's day!
  5. A lot of guys want to see photos before they get interested. Also, where are you located?
  6. They run a lot of Good Feet commercials on TV here; almost every customer they talk to is crying. If their inserts are over $250, then I can see why they're crying.
  7. There was a topic on here a while back about different color engines...red was one of them.
  8. I put the engine in today; I pulled the old engine out of this truck in July of 2017 so it's been 3-1/2 years. I fed the rear chain through an old motorcycle tube and it did a nice job of protecting the paint.
  9. I saw a web page for Rome Truck Parts, they have a catalog with a lot of old wiper arms, blades, motors, etc. It says they also repair wiper motors and other things. I may look to them if I need stuff for my wipers. http://www.rometruckparts.com/
  10. My Ralph Smith truck had a new radiator core and shutters put in just before it was taken off the road in the 80's. I took the radiator to the shop to get it cleaned and tested; they said the core was good. The bottom frame was all rusted and broken so they completely rebuilt the bottom. The shutters were really nice except the bottoms were all rusted and seized. I took them all apart and got them cleaned and lubed; they work nice. The actuator was rusted badly but one of my other parts trucks had a nice one on it. The felt wiper inside was bad so I ordered a piece from McMaster Carr. Thankfully the rubber cup was still good. I was looking for a rebuild kit for my filter/lubricator and I found an NOS unit for $40 so I bought it. The rebuild kit number is 1033-01529-01; I saw some for sale on ebay. The lower radiator pipe is solid brass, so I cleaned it up and polished it. Yesterday I primed and painted the engine with Nason Ful-Thane DS138 gray. Eddeere said it's a good match for Mack Power Gray, I like the look of it. It's gray with some green mixed in.
  11. Those new wires look so clean and nice! I see you put down a piece of carpet to make them more comfortable.
  12. Fantastic! What paint codes did you use for the red frame and the gray transmission?
  13. He may mean #1 cylinder is in the back...I've seen some strange ways to number the cylinders before.
  14. Fine looking R model! The other R and the B are cool.
  15. I have some Mack photo books, this is a really nice one--Mack Driven for a Century by John Heilig. You can get it on ebay and other places for $20.00. Lots of photos and history from the beginning through 1999.
  16. My guess would be 12,000 to 13,000 lbs. My tandem H model is 12,000.
  17. 1986 Superliner in Virginia. Says it has a newer E6 350, rebuilt T2090. Looks really good in the photos. Buy it now is $35,000. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1986-Mack-Superliner/333841200687?hash=item4dba7c762f:g:yqQAAOSwQqRf66wq
  18. This thing is a beast! In Bluefield VA, asking $50,000. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/428677734806061/?ref=search&referral_code=undefined
  19. The shiny frames really set off the red paint nicely!
  20. Do these mudflaps make my butt look big?
  21. I see you have your shutter lube pot there...did you rebuild it? I took mine apart today and I haven't looked to see if I can get a new gasket or biscuits for it.
  22. I was dropping off my radiator at the shop yesterday and this truck pulled in. No idea what he hit.
  23. What I've seen done before is to rinse down from the top with mineral spirits or other petroleum solvent. If it's dirty enough you could even soak in a bucket or cutoff barrel of solvent. Blow dry or allow to air dry.
  24. This truck is definitely the nicest build I've seen, I've enjoyed watching the progress.
  25. McMaster Carr didn't have anything close to this size. I should have called Watts with KKergall's part number but I had already searched ebay for "throwout bearing return spring" and found a guy with springs for old Massey Ferguson tractors...similar size so I bought one. It works well. I stabbed the trans to the engine, it went in easy the first time so I must have done something wrong. I'm still waiting for the pump and injectors from the rebuild shop, as soon as I get them I can paint this and put it into the chassis.
