Vacation's over, back to the old grind this week. I did take some pictures of the old grind though. I had to pull this drop deck trailer to Erie, Pa. The kingpin is so far forward that the front of the 5th. wheel is even with the front of the trailer, and I had to slide the 5th. wheel as far back as it would go so I could turn without tearing my mudflaps off. Had to have a drop deck so I could go load a 1949 Ferguson tractor somewhere out in the middle of nowhere, near Pittsfield, Pa. I took rt. 8 down to rt. 6 in Pa. ...then I took rt. 27 down to this little road, had a 10 ton weight limit. then I turned on this dirt road...I didn't have to go too far to load the tractor, it was at the next house past the one in the picture, but I had to go 2 miles past there to get turned around and headed back out. I just backed the trailer in the ditch and the man drove it up his ramps from the side, and turned it after he got it up on the trailer. Then I had to go to Lane Steel in McKees Rocks and get a load of steel. At N.B.Handy in Lynchburg the next morning. Took the tractor to Amherst, Va. Unloaded at Elwood Mays' woodyard. He has a chip dump and they raised the dump up level with the trailer, backed the tractor onto the dump, then just lowered the dump and drove it off. I didn't take any pictures of that- I was busy. I did take one of this DM600 that brought a load of wood in while I was there. Then I went from Lynchburg to Warren, Ohio and back, reloading at the same place I delivered to in Warren. That's where I saw this unit hiding out- I also saw a Superliner dump truck. A wooden truck and tractor. and a ship sailing the sea. I even stopped and took some pictures of that truck i'd been trying to get a drive-by picture of. It has a "for sale" sign on it, but no phone number, and the doors were locked. Saw this unit sitting at Art Reed's place in Montvale.

We tried 2 Prostars with Maxxforce engines, I know Big Jim had a lot of down time with his with turbo and egr problems, i'm not sure about the other one. The last Prostars they got a few weeks ago had Cummins engines. They've had problems with the paccars too, and problems getting the warranty to cover the problems they do have. Jeff Moore said that all in all the Freightliners with DD15 engines were giving them the best service.

Oh...good question, I never followed up on the grape story. Turned out that the grape picker tool had a few design flaws, like most of my plans. We ended up spreading a sheet on the ground and using the picker to shake the vines, causing the grapes to fall onto the sheet. Then we picked them up. I washed them and put them in the wine making device, a new 5 gallon bucket from Lowes, with water and sugar. But I had so few grapes to start with I added some apples to the batch, along with more water and a little more sugar. It's fermenting nicely, whether it'll be any good or not only time will tell, i've never added apples before. It smells like wine anyway!

oh...commercial trucks- but I searched all of ebay motors...i'm going back to cooking these greens so I can freeze them...

That's good to know, about Bob's that is. They used to get speedometer and tach cables on a big spool down at H.H.Moore Trucking. We had a simple little tool to fix them, just cut a piece of cable to length, put the tool in a vise and lay the end of the cable in it, then hold another thing on top of the cable and hit it with a hammer to square the end. I'd like to have that, there's a garage in the old trucking co. building now that works on cars and trucks and if that tool's still around they probably don't know what it is.Probably got thrown out in the trash years ago.

It's sad but all very true. I've always felt that's how Obama got elected in the first place and then re-elected- the "free shit" people and their attitude of "screw the good of the country, screw everybody else, I just wants my free shit!.. oh, they be a war in Afghanistan?. I didn't know that, by the way, did you see Justin Beaver and Miley Cyrus on the tv last night?..who won on the American Idol show?" But if you come out and say it you're a racist- and race has nothing to do with it. Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are just as big an asshole as Obama is, and they're white ,and i'd vote for Herman Cain for president tomorrow if I could, and he is black.
