Nope the ECUs come base HP you have to reflash them with the truck it was born in! That protocol you mention there was some BS thing mack or fuller came up with due to Extra torque ! Utter BS ! Back in the day you could get a Fuller Behind a V8 ! E7 couldn't hold a candle to the torque of a 400 maxidine V8! And the meritor Diffs are tuogh as nails a mack diff these days is a waste over money unless for some reason you need a top loader diff!

THe first year of 2004 of these trucks we sold had 20 in stock sold ten, the other ten became parts trucks for the best part of a year! couldn't keep Turbos on them ! Mack ran out of turbos so we ended up robing trucks to keep guys running ! Manifold studs broke ,coolant push And the imfamous Fuel line Feasco ! The list was long! They finally got a handle on it in 2005 after the damage was already done! F**king Embarrassing if you were a dealer! or a real Mack guy!

In my opinion VMAC1 IS better than VMAC2 WHY? two separate modules Engine ECU Vehicle ECU in Vmac one , Vmac 2 All one module ! Easier to trouble shoot V mac one! Secondly VMAC 2 concept was done only a year or two and they went back to separate modules Thats got to tell you something right there! Just sayin!

stay away from 2004 RUN AWAY ! 2005 up to 2007 sort of OK !these were a disaster first year out But once the bugs were out they were Just OK!

Glad I didn't set them valves they would have got set at 24 thou! Just cause that's how I always done it may not have looked at the valve cover However if it says 28 then that's a not too tight 24 to me ! Did a set on a 3406 e once, cat provides a min max set 3 or 4 thou one way or the other in my mind is reasonable! I believe there is likely a plus minus factor built in to the spec Mack provides ! Just my opinion!

The steel plug is likly the pointer! some had a pointer pushed in the hole! Just use the center of the plug as your guide you will be fine it really is not rocket science! if you are off a little one side or the other on the Valve set marks It will likely not effect the Valve set that much! just follow the directions as jojo posted you'll be fine.
