  1. Not be cruel but you need to get a manual because if you dont know the timing then i know alot of other things you need to know about the Vmac. Look at the bottom of the flywheel housing for the timing marks. Tyhe vmac pump is timed on # 6 cyl and another way to time which is crude but will work is to go to cummins and get a timing indictator for a 5.9 diesel 12 valve with a p pump. It is a lttle plastic plug that will go inside of the governor housing were you timing sensor is and it has a slot that will go over the timing tang when pump is in time and the plastic plug will fit over the tang holding the tang in the middle of the opening. Then install timing gear on fron and start and watch for a timing code. If you dont have a active timing code then you are in time. If you do then stop and move the timing alittle one way and try. But with out the tools and willing to buy the equipment you are only guessing. I have a prolink that i can read codes and monitor with and if you dont have that you dont know if your timing is slow or fast if you have a timing code. You should watch ebay and go into tools for mack and some time you can buy tools that a man needs to check trhis stuff and some times it goes cheep because some guys dont know what it is for and just dont bid on it. good luck glenn
  2. Paul why will it not fit you B model is because not enough clearance under the cab? glenn
  3. Ok lay the regulator down flat on trhe table and look into the rubber plug. The ter. on the left is neg and the ter. on the right is pos and the ter in the middle that is laying down is the field. this regulator is for neg or pos ground but depends the way you wire to the alter. glenn
  4. I find that some of the test questions that cummins has on the promotions traing has to be written by young guys that are smarter than i will ever be but dont know much about real live engines. I seems some question will be nothing more than to find out if you can be tricked or not in the question in the study material. I hate this new stuff. The bad thing is it is to be done ever year because of newer and faster electrical componts. It is so much different than when i started in 65 .You need to be willing to work and keep your job clean and be willing to learn but now no one can keep up with it all. glenn
  5. Cloths pins will work on a E6 but then you have to pull the fuel pump and covers. And a E7 dont got any covers. glenn
  6. Carefull there hand. glenn
  7. yes but i dont think it would live. glenn
  8. You need to use the harness made for that pryometer and dont shorten it. glenn
  9. years ago when i worked alot of macks we had a can of black hard grease that you could put under the lifter and it would hang all day. I dont know about a E7 but the little cummins we use chop sticks to hang from the top.
  10. the noise you hear with the clutch down if not the thro out brg will be center plate rattle and want hurt nothing. glenn
  11. And i always say that there is those that have and those that is going to. glenn
  12. I never saw it before but if you dont need it use it for a crack pipe. glenn
  13. E7 early engines had alot of cam problems but if that engine was mine i would replace the dampler on the crank if the block is ok. In most cases vibrations break the cam and then it will get the front brg because nothing to suport it.my 2 cents glenn
  14. Cummins had alot of trouble out of the early ones but they got that straight.
  15. Then your saying the Holsit will not work on a E6. I am glad you told me that because i have a Holsit on a junk engine that i was saving for my E6 if and when i need one.
  16. What he said about the rack. The #3 screw is a lever screw. That means lever along. glenn
  17. Ya we are talking about the E9 I had one sitting in the shop and we was mashing on it trying to find a miss and it shook a clock off a cement block wall hanging on a nail. They shake the ground they stand on.glenn
  18. I am one who like no noise at all and i like to use the jake where ever with out having the fear of a ticket or botheren any one. I think it is very childess in a grown man to wake up every one in town with jakes when all it is being dont for is to say ha guys look at me. I have listen to engines run all my live and am hard hearing over the rackety and dont need any more of it.What i do like is hear a engine run under load with a short muffler and long tail pipe but can live with out that for the sake of my ears. So much for that and that is free my 2 cents worth. glenn
  19. And one 711 had a head that had two 3/4" corner bolts in each end of the head under the fuel return line from the injectors. glenn
  20. You can put a turbo on it but tell me what are you going to do with this truck and i can tell you some more. Is it a toy truck or is it going to work and try to make some power?.
  21. Then your ok then but let me say and i did not remenber what happen to your 711 but if it had a brg failure then dont use that core from that oil cooler because it will have metal in it and hurt your engine but if the 673 has a full flow oil filter on it then it should have had a oil cooler on it already.
  22. cat has some good cleaner for that but dont know how it works but have uded alot of it. I have used draino but need to be carefull with alumium and then like any acid flush serval times and get coolant back in condision.
  23. Well i can help some here. First the 9 is a V8. The E6 is a 672 ci 6 cyl engine and has many different rating in it The E7 will be a 6 cyl engine and is easy to id from a E6. The E7 will not have the two panels that cover the cam lifters behind the air compressor and injection pump like the E6.That is the out side difference. glenn
  24. I install a 3 53 in a 58 chevy pickup about 15 years ago. This was a engine and trans like new that came from a military vehicle and was aluminum and still was heavy. This was a 3/4 ton and we shorten the frame for a short step side bed. The rear end was 4:11 and i install over size wheels and tires on rear to get ratio up and i think the fron had 17: rubber on it so it set level. i will try to find photo and post. I did cut RPM back to 2700 and losen up the rack some to keep from hurting the engine. It had good power and run about 70 mph and did good on fuel. I installed a good air cleaner on it to cut some of the noise and a new 3" exhaust to the rear and insulated the hood to cut the racket. The tach drtive was on the rear and i cut a small hole behind it in the fire wall for a tach cable and straight back into the tach.I let my son drive it to school his last school year and we live 2 miles from school in the rual area and i could here him coming home. had to tell him a couple of times you shift when you run out of RPM. It looked like a 5 speed chevy trans and was easy to cool. I install a new rad the rad shop had and told me it was from a old dodge pick up but it fit in the chevy. I will say again those are heavy engines and mine was alummin. I never did find out if the liners could be replaced in the block but i think not. The DD dear her had never seen one and did not have any info on it but after a year some one else wanted it and i sold it. glenn Some advice to any one who uses one in a small truck is do use good engine insulators. glenn
  25. Ok then you have a by pass filter and first it ant going to hurt the engine for now if you dont get it to flow oil out of it. make sure you have oil pressure is the main thing. I would put a good gage on it that has been proven to be good and if you have pressure then find out which line is pressure on the 4 bolt pad on the side off the block by take one line off and cranking the engine for awhile with the stop pulled. When you find the pressure line out of the block then it goes to the fitting in the bottom that is not in the center of the filter. The fitting in the bottom of the filter that is in the middle of the filter is lined up with the center up right stand that has the T handle in it will go to the return of the engine and that only dropes oil to the oil pan and not to a brg. There should be a check valve in one of the fittings in the bottom of the filter to get oil in it when no running. There can be a problem there and if the lines are crossed then it cant get oil to the filter.
