  1. Does the filter have two big and one little hose at the bottom? Or does it have two #6 hoses on the bottom and have you had then loose or disconnected? And do you rememnber what filter # you put in it. The one with the three lines would be a 236GB311A and the other filter # would be somthing like 500 somthing.
  2. That pan was used in most cases with the older engine but it will not hurt yours i dont know if the dip stick would still be correct. That ant out of line for the oil pressure to take a while to build up.
  3. I would change the injectors and lines and screw the rack screw in about 1 1/2 turns because the 673 dont need that much fuel and as for as the pump drive i dont know if you will have to change it. When you get the pumps off then you can look and tell. If you change the drive then you will need to pull front cover to do that. glenn
  4. What he said on the grease but tell me about this truck and i may have somthing to add but which engine is it and tell me what have you did to the engine if any. You will be looking for a steel line or hose to the gage and no sening unit because it is a manual gage. If this is a 673 engine and the filter has 3 oil lines at the bottom then you may know that there is a special filter that goes in there. If it has oil lines on the bottom have you had them off? glenn
  5. The intake and oil cooler will bolt up but there is something else you need to check. Tell me what knind of oil filter is on the 673. That will tell me if the oil filter is full flow or a by/pass filter. If it is a by pass then you ant got no oil to cool. The way to tell what filter is look at the bottom of the filter and a full flow will have 2 big oil lines and 1 small line to the engine. The by/pass will have 2 small oil lines and it is better known as a 500 luberfiner. And on the fuel pump by all means use the APE and throw the rotarty pump away or keep because some one will need it for parts. The two blocks can be both full flow filtering system but the 673 made a change i think in about 59 or 60 to the full flow oil filter. That means all of the oil that the pump pumps to the engine goes direct to the 4 bolt pad on the left side were the oil lines comes out and on a full flow all of the oil comes out there and goes to the filter and back in the 4 bolt block and then to the brgs. The by/pass system will have a 4 bolt block on the left side but oil only comes to that and goes on to the brgs unfilterd but has a small oil line coming out to a parial/flow/bypas filter.that engine will also have a large round pan that can be removed on the bottom of the oil pan under the oil pump pick up tube and it has a screen that needs cleaned when you change your oil.glenn
  6. That is some good advice. glenn
  7. They were 7 lb when the truck was new. I dont think there was a 10 lb cap in those days. glenn
  8. I have did for serval years and its not by the book but it will help find a leak some times you cant see. And another thing a few bubbles of soapy water at the air/air cooler joints is no reason to replace a cooler. glenn
  9. Start with pressure testing the air/air cooler and all hoses up to and including the head with 25 psi and you may find some leaks. If you dont have the equipment then take to some one who has and if they or you cant get the valves to seal in all cylnders then turn engine slow untill you pressure comes up. There will be a place were all cylinders will have intakes or exhausts valves closed. Some times you will find intake gaskets leaking as well as the air compressor hose leaking. Dont let some one tell you it want work.
  10. There was a series/ parallel switch under there at one time when it was a 24 volt starting system. glenn
  11. I have had one on my B61 for years and it worked great but would use alot of air so if you have one and need to change air compressor i would go to the larger compressor. glenn
  12. And on top of that we pay them to do that and if there is some way for them to check and see if you have paid your tax with out checking the color of your fuel they would not have to stop you. You may be able to get the law changed but then that leads into other problems like DOT would not be able to stop drivers and check logs then some day the roads could get dangerous. glenn
  13. I have seen the bleeder hose stopped up and push water out but in m ost cases it heats at idle but runs normal at hi rpm but that still means compressuion in the coolant in most cases. glenn
  14. A DOT compliance officer can stop you any time any were and do a check on you and your equipment with out a reason. If you are operating under the federal rules that is. If you are a privete vehicle not operating under their rules and not hauling freight for hire then i dont know what they can do.I dought they would bother you because you would not have a DOT # and that is were he starts at with when doing a inspection. Here in okla the state has inspectors out here doing ram checks for red fuel and they do check farmers with farm tags. glenn
  15. All diesel engines need the fuel pressure checked going down the road with full load. I have seen many guys check the fuel pressure in the shop and find out later going down the road the resticted fuel supply cant let enough fuel thru when needed under a load when it is burning more fuel. glenn
  16. What he said. glenn
  17. Did you ever see a king pin break or all most break and bind up the spindle were it wont turn either way? I have seen it a few times from over loading the axles. It may care the weight but what havens is you hit a rought rail road and you can bend a king pin or break one. glenn
  18. The best way to tell is the model # on the block at the right front were the injection pump bolts to the block but at the top of that mounting pad the # will start out as a ENDxxx. Another way is look at the left side or driver side head bolts and if you find one on the end that is 3/4 which is larger than the reat then you have a 711 but the early one had the same bolts as a 673. And if it has a single inlet pipe to the intake manifold it will be a 673. The 711 will have a P manifold which is two inlets or two intake manifolds. another way is if it dont have 3 oil lines going to the bottom of the oil filter it is not a 711. Another way is if it dont have a oil cooler it will not be a 711. Another way is if it dont got a thermostat housing it ant a 711. glenn
  19. I looked in my motors manual and it say 48 qts. glenn
  20. Dont forget Lorena Bobbitt, What she did to her old man when he was sleep. glenn
  21. Can you guys still find the shock fluid that goes in the rota shocks? glenn
  22. Yes it is nice to run in to a place like that i know a place that i have used for years that is not a dealer but independent rebuilder of gears and used to be of enginesd but i have used them many times and always they at the counter are trying to find out if you are forgetting somthing and will stand there and eat up there time trying to locate a part some were out of the network just so you will remenber them. I have hear some guys complain about there gears and rebuilt units and i have tryed i guess in evey case help with there trouble shooting their problem and most cases find out that some one on the radio on the road or like that was the one who told them what to replace. In other words a lot of times you have the guy that works on his own truck but dont know what is wrong with it and then things dont go like they want and then that is were the parts man gets blamed. I love to spend my money with some one who shows some interest in me and not mad at me for showing up at his counter. glenn
  23. Its trying to say replace me but you can replace the valves in the head with a field repair kit that i am sure bendix still sells. That will be a tuflow 500 bendix and you may be able to replace the maintenance kit with out pulling the compressor. You have done your home work to find were it was leaking. Some guys would have never found that. glenn
  24. Wait till you retire and dont got much money and then my wife always says you remenber all the money you sent in those old trucks and airplanes and non of them made you any money and i have to agree. I remenber what my mon all ways said about a fool and hims money and now i know who you was speaking of. me
  25. If you have cracked a fuel injector line then you will not be able to pump fuel from it with the primer pump because unlike cat engine there is a delivery check valve in the bunnet. So when the injection pump is returning fuel to the tank like rob said you can crack some lines at the injectors and help some but in most cases that is not need if the injection pump is returning fuel to the tank. Also if those primers act tired thru it away and get a new one. The new one will be smaller and cheaper but will work. glenn
