  1. There was an article on AC Purple engines in the ATHS Wheels of Time by Bill Johnson somewhere back in the 1012 to 2015 time frame.
  2. I guess that is what my wife calls Brunswick Stew??????? Must be a southern thing??????
  3. That ain't stew!!!!! It looks the same as what my REBEL (GA Born)wife makes and it is vegetable soup!!! Stew is made with chunks of beef, brown gravy, and onions, mushrooms, ETC...
  4. My prayers and condolences go out to all the families in Western North Carolina who will not be able to be together this Thanksgiving due to hurricane Helena. May the rest of the families in the all of the good old U S of A have a safe and thankful Thanksgiving.
  5. Mark, Johnson City is a suburb of Binghamton NY.. Would like that one my self.. Tom Millard (Olsdpwr) is on here at times and might know the truck.. Those Eaton 3 speed rears were sorta unusual. Held up OK as long as you did not work the intermediate speed extremely hard as 1 rear was in low and the other high.
  6. Be sure you have a licenced electrician install it to your house or your home owners insurance will go to hell..
  7. From your pictures, that H model looks like a good candidate for a restoration,,, Hopefully you can swap it for the parts you need???
  8. TJC, Yes it usually took most a week to get one of the barn fires totally out. The fire company would stand by and let burn itself out.
  9. Paul, Thanks for the explanation of baling at night.. We had always baled the small square bales in the afternoon when the moisture content was at its lowest.. If the hay was too wet it would mold in the barn. Even A few barns were lost to a spontaneous combustion fire from the mold..
  10. Paul that is a tractor (prime mover) for a trailer based aerial ladder. Some of which had a steerable trailer axle and a man with a steering wheel on the back. That is why the out riggers have been added for stability.
  11. Harry, You are thinking to of red and silver LTL and bull rack of Kranik (sp???) Ranch some where in Texas.. I have seen it a couple of times at Macungie, and maybe York also???
  12. Welcome to Big Mack Trucks!!!!!😃 Will be looking forward to progress pictures.
  13. James, Please read thru this topic. Matt is very inspirational..
  14. Other than being Military Ugly it looks like the fleet you have is great for going into the fields and reliability.
  15. When you find the backing plates and shoes lay them on the floor and send us some pictures... We will be better able to help you make decisions.
  16. James, From the left front picture I can see the clutch and brake pedals and it looks like you have hydraulic brakes possibly with a hydrovac booster unit??.. You will know more when you find the backing plates. If so this this will give you the opportunity to engineer / install a modern power brake unit with dual master cylinders. That cab looks in great shape so your body work will be mostly sanding and painting. I hate to say it, BUT right now your biggest project is cleaning out the shop and finding all the parts you can so you can take an inventory of what you will need.
  17. And add some more pictures!! Especially after you get the chassis uncovered, so we can see what your Dad has done.
  18. You said your Dad had restored the Chassis.. Did he leave any records of what he had done??? Depending on how long it has sat you will probably want to pull the wheels and inspect the bearings. At the same time inspect the drums as there is a possibility your Dad has already crossed that bridge?? If it has air brakes you can inspect the drums with a jack and a flashlight.
  19. James, I like your plan!!! I thought I saw some new black paint on the frame rails.. So you have a head start there.. It looks like you have a fair sized shop to work in. With no serious rust thru problems, and some help from a body man you can learn to do the majority of the work yourself, and be able to tell the people who are admiring the truck "I did that myself"!! With no fire body, when you get that point, you can then go with a flatbed, with stake sides, grain body, or even a roll back???
  20. Why do you think I moved from Syracuse NY to South Carolina.. But what we used to call a dusting these people call a blizzard!!!!
  21. But it is better to have it in Nu Joisey than South Carolina!!!
  22. Even though this was written and performed by an Australian, I believe this song exemplifies the feelings of all the great Americans who voted Trump into office.
  23. If you need a complete engine Tom Millard may have the 401(??) he took out of his 1955 Brockway 154 when he repowered it with a 5.9 Cummins.
  24. Yes I would start with the engine. Pull the plugs, Put a bar on the front and see if it is free. Do you already have the pan off?? If you do not have a cylinder scope to go thru the plug holes, make sure you can get a rebuild gasket set, and pull the head and pan to see if it is rebuildable??? If not you may have to consider a repower??? At he same time set the cab on a pallet and inspect it close.. That will tell you what is involved in the body work necessary. Do you have the fire apparatus body??? If so do a good inspection of it. Then take a good appraisal of your body work skills. A lot of your decisions will be how much of the work you can do yourself versus your checkbook!!!
  25. Steve, either Tom Millard or Stan Augustine had mentioned them on the old Brockway site several years ago. James, either of the two mentioned above can help you with Continental engines. If you need their email addresses please email / PM me thru here.
