  1. Well Kevin, That is quite the bit of history. Hats off to you for typing all this out for all of us to learn more heavy truck technology history. If memory serves, Ford installed at least 1 in a W series COE & quickly learned to point the exhaust up as the engine idling burned & melted the asphalt road way. International also performed tests & evaluations of a turbine powered Transtar 2 COE, the unit had a distinctive solid panel covering up the grille. In the 1960's Kenworth also experimented with a turbine powered 524 conventional. The press releases touted a 200 pound turbine powered the unit. Rick
  2. WOW, that sure is coming along nicely! Super sharp & crisp paint & stripes. Rick
  3. I doubt he is missing any letters after the "F" in the VIN. LF2D3575 L = Cab F = Hood length 2D = tandem drive Would have been shipped as a straight truck, with frame rails extended past the rear rear drive axle. Your LFT1D LF = cab & hood T = TRACTOR 1D = single drive axle
  4. My bad, for posting this in "odds & ends" rough day,,,, http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?/topic/31878-higher-quality-checks-at-volvo/
  5. Volvo Trucks North America is recalling certain VAH, VHD, VNL, VNM and VT model trucks due to a lack of a redundant clutch disengagement switch that could cause braking problems. The recall notice was issued June 26, and affected year models are 2007-2014. Without the redundant clutch disengagement switch, “the distance required to stop the truck may lengthen, increasing the risk of a crash,” says Volvo’s recall, which also says about 23,000 trucks are affected by the issue. The truck maker is still developing a remedy, but the recall is expected to begin Aug. 25, says the notice. The recall number is RVXX1303, and affected owners may contact Volvo at 336-393-2000
  6. Found this one a few years ago sitting out side a local spring shop. one of the last made with the Autocar badge on a V-W-thing
  7. What kills me is this is NOT the 1st one! The 1st one was built in 2010 (burnt orange color) & looks identical to the 2013 (silver) version, just a different color. Navistar did one back in 2004 with a 4700 extended cab & a Ford F-350 dually box. Looked a little better but still useless. Then it was killed off in 2008 http://money.cnn.com/2004/09/13/pf/autos/monster_truck/ http://www.pickuptrucks.com/html/news/navistar/navistar-quietly-kills-its-giant-pickups.html
  8. It is pretty gay, with the Chevy dually box just plopped on the back, But then again, this is the kind of junk Vulva is good for. http://www.volvotrucks.com/trucks/na/en-us/news_and_events/news_releases/_layouts/CWP.Internet.VolvoCom/NewsItem.aspx?News.ItemId=93455 Just think of how much better things could have been if the V actually wanted to compete in the class 7 & lower range..... Big waste of time, effort & dollars.
  9. Yes, the "HEF" is a wonderful place to enjoy all sorts of heavy construction, mining & logging equipment.
  10. The shear power of water fueled by head pressure & gravity, as it finds the path of least resistance & erases all it encounters.
  11. This is all taking place just 1 hour east of me. We are wet, but thankfully not flooded. that small area was holding there own until a levee broke in the small city of Oneida. Now they all just can not catch a break, there is another wave of storms setting up to pound that little valley again. and flood water still has not receded enough as of today for about 1/2 of the residents to go home. They have a 8 am to 8 pm curfew for the flooded areas & if you lived in the parts effected you must be escorted in. the have set up a public facebook page for sharing the photos of the damage here: https://www.facebook.com/cnyflooding They are all in our thoughts. Rick
  12. right on!! if you were to attempt the same in a modern Mack........er V------o.......better off walking
  13. The guy with that in his head, the best Mack transmission guy, Richard White at Beam Mack Syracuse NY. 315-437-2574, Service Dept. Rick
  14. You mean your dealership uses a lube!! Lucky you, try it dry.
  15. Just like the entire meaning of "Built like a Mack truck", it IS slowly & systematically being reduced merely a badge on the front of a V-----, and even that will soon be replaced with a diagonal slash just as so many others have had there fate sealed by a merger or buyout. Rick
  16. One of the best men I have had the pleasure of meeting. 2000 Valley Forge show, with the FKSW, he took the time to talk with me about every inch of that master piece. And he allowed me to stick the camera in every tight spot for all the details, even as i crawled under the truck on the asphalt to shoot the full drive line. The truck was just as spotless on the under side as it was top side. I bow my head in a moment of silence. Rick
  17. I like the HET on the back better! Rick
  18. So sad to watch the inevitable & planned out demise of the greatest name in trucks. Rick
  19. Those were known as the HMM, one man cab that tilts to the side for engine access. This was Mack's first venture into a front discharge mixer chassis. Rick
  20. UUUUUUUUUUU, eeeerrrrrrr WTF. For a debut at such an event, one might have chosen a color other than schitt brown. It does seem to go with the crumpled paper bag look below the belt line. Perhaps the ultimate goal here for the big V is to offer such a POS that it just does not sell & then the entire Renault name will be removed from the roster. Rick
  21. YUCK, take that boy out behind the woodshed...... Rick
