We had an overhead V-plow to do the trailer roofs in our yard. Problem was you had to shovel the snow that landed on the ground to the side before the next truck drove through.    .....Hippy

l'm not sure where this is from but, LOL! GET OUT OF THE WAY! Blizzard of '78 in Manchester NH we were a contractor for the city. Two six wheelers plowing, ten wheeler hauling snow, and a loader doing the alleys. The plows were told to just keep the streets open. When it let up push it back to the curb, well by that time everyone had almost cleaned out their driveways. We lost two windshields from thrown shovels and not the cheap plastic ones! AH back when it was fun.    .....Hippy

guy did that to mee about 20 years ago. he spent 11 days in county jail because it was holiday friday night, with christmas on monday.  and judge decided to let him stew in county for 10 days until hearing on Jan 2.

besides loosing 5 days work, he was ordered to replace my windshield, AND fined $1,000 for criminal motor vehicle damage. plus town fine of $50 for throwing snow in the street.

the worse part is i always cleaned as much of the windrow from driveways on the last pass.

for two years after, all plow drivers were instructed by town road department not to clear driveways because all the people in that development were real pricks. parked their cars on the roads instead of in their driveways. then after the driveways were clean they would pull the cars in and call complaining we did not clear the roads. 

what they could not understand was was the road department head road all over following plow crews checking on the work they were doing.

Blizzard of 78 wow, who could forget that I was working for Nissan’s back then by the time the bread was ready to roll. We couldn’t move our trucks. They sent us all home. Good thing I had four  wheel drive and  a snow plow. I don’t know how anybody else got out of there.

Just on the TV news. Supposed to start 0600 Saturday morning and by all day give us about 2 to 4 inches.. That will be a major blizzard for these people in the south.. Probably will not get any plows out until Monday??? I will sit home and laugh at them!!

This picture is from blizzard of 78. You can see a Mack DM or U model pulling a tanker, a Terminal freight GMC 9500 and a ford Louisville all stuck on the highway somewhere.

I've been running the heck out of my snow removal equipment 😩 

 

I didn't try to dig down to the gravel like that, but it comes up in big pieces like that. Some of them I just pick up and carry. 

I got out this morning with no problem, the road from here out to 460 is half clear and half solid packed ice.

I saw this accident in Appomattox. I don't know any details as to what happened.

Looking at what you are shoveling out of your driveway Tom l'm glad for our sub zero temps and 18" of powder. Take it that driver never thought the load would slide forward. l don't see any type of headboard or extra securement to hold it back.    .....Hippy

Yeah, hard to say. I wasn't close enough to see in detail, just got a phone picture from the Express Lane parking lot. The truck is nosed down into the median just past the stoplight , I don't know if any other vehicles were involved or not. Lumber might have been loaded on ice on an aluminum trailer, that's never good either.

Hope the driver's OK, looks like the lumber is up in the cab pretty good.

Looks like at least 6' lumber may be 8'. That is a lot of travel. Not enough straps or not enough tension on the straps. Hope he walked away to learn from it.

Worse lumber I hauled for squirming were new RR ties right out of the creosote, it was like they were coated in grease! Had to be real careful with them esp when it was sunny and hot.

I saw a couple more pictures of the truck on the Appomattox VFD page. The truck was the only vehicle involved, but that doesn't mean nobody pulled out in front of him and caused it, no details were given as to the cause. Said the driver was transported by EMS, but it doesn't look as bad from this side as it did from the other side.

Looks like the load was coming apart before he hit the snow. Two strap winches toward the front might be he had forward securement that didn't hold. As far as the cab, that should buff out.     .....Hippy

Still NO headache rack or headboard on the trailer?? I will be that driver will insist on them in the future!!!
