I can handle bee stings, no problem, even hauled a load of honey bees from the west coast back to the midwest.

Wasp and hornets are a different matter. I get a severe allergic reaction to their venom. I don't know what is different between the species, but I DO know there is a difference.

No heat problems here, cold and blowy and pretty miserable

100 is getting pretty miserable to work in

Joey can blow some sweat around with his big new fan, should help to keep things drier

On my last encounter with them they had a nest in the ground by the guy wire on the light pole.. Poured a good splash of gas in the hole and followed it with a lit farmer match.. WHOOSH!! NO MORE Yellow Jackets!!!

I already burned one shed down, better not try the starting fluid flame thrower trick in this situation. 🤣

I didn't look at them real, real, close but they appeared to be yellow jackets. They're just mean anyway. I think that was the first yellow jacket nest I've seen that wasn't in the ground. I burned 3 or 4 when I was in Gladys. Got stung several times cutting the grass one time but it took me a while to find the nest. I finally saw some go in a hole in the ground so just before dark that evening I poured half a red solo cup of gas in it. Non ethanol gas. That probably would have done the trick, but I got a can of ether out of the shed and sprayed a trail on the ground back about 10 feet and lit it.

Yellow jackets are wasps not bees, White faced or baldfaced hornets are wasps! Just to add confusion to the mix.

Bees are fine with me, wasps can send me to the hospital if I get multiple stings.

Those "paper" nests are wasp nests, so always be careful around them

Yeah, I dug up an underground nest before and they'll have those type of nests in the ground. I thought this was a hornet's nest at first, that's what it looked like. Had the "paper" wrapping all around the part with the holes in it that the eggs or larva or whatever you call them are in.

I would have hated to have gotten stung multiple times by these, the one still hurts- almost 24 hours later. As many as there were I still feel lucky to have only been stung once.

And when I was washing the big green International that runs now I found a good size wasp nest up under the visor, that one had the big red wasps on it. I always considered those the most painful stings of them all. I just sprayed it with the water hose and knocked it down with the brush handle.

If we got stung by a wasp when we were kids my grandfather would cut off a little piece of his plug of Peach and Honey and tell us "chew this a  minute or two and then hold it on where it stung you and it'll stop hurting".  Worked too.

From what little I can see in the picture, I'd guess baldface or whitefaced. They are very close kin to yellowjackets. I think they build nests above ground like the one you had, I know yellowjackets can and do nest in the ground.

I know when I get stung from a wasp, it feels like someone heated a pin red hot and jammed it deep into my skin, then I swell up real bad. More then a few stings and I go into shock.

anything that can coat an insect (hairspray etc) can cut off there ability to get oxygen and they die, but hornet spray doesn't have to coat them directly to work.

Bees, on the other hand don't bother me much, yeah I feel a sting and it itches a bit, but wasps are a whole different story.

That’s really weird  without the apartment on the back gives the truck an entire different look. I’m almost thinking it looks better, but I also thought that apartment made it look better confused now. Good luck yes with selling.

Yes, same here. Sometimes I get stung and I don’t even feel them just get swollen and itchy.

Certain times of the summer my lawn is full of them. I don’t know a whole lot about them. They’re not Hornets or wasp some sort of yellow jackets. I just continue mowing and they don’t seem to bother me.or get annoyed by the mower

defiantly has to be done at night in darkness most bees are back. yrs back grandparents farm had 3 in ground nest. 1/2 gal gas , long pole with rag wrapped on end; soaked the rag , poured gas in each hole then the flame torch. ,next morning dug up the nest. feel bad for the little bast- - - s . they work so hard to haul all that dirt out of the hole plus build underground home so intricate. all while queen bee sits on her ass.

I went back to the scene of the crime. Looks like little yellow jacket carcasses all right.PXL_20250727_1542516952.thumb.jpg.b9bed1e042d29961eac8957b27ded2ba.jpg

This one was still in the shed, but it didn't look like it felt very good. Then it got stepped on.

This was what was left of the nest. The whole compound was housed in that paper looking stuff.

That thing was huge, had like 5 of these compartment apartment complexes in it.

around 40 years ago i was digging a new septic tank in a county park. 30 foot away from the states largest poplar tree, which was also protected under state order as a landmark. i pulled a bucket of dirt out of the ground and saw a liquid dripping from the bucket about the same time the county inspector screamed bloody murder and everyone started running. needless to say i was not really paying attention until the second bucket came out of the ground. i had dug directly into a 12 foot diameter yellow jackets nest, and boy were they pissed!!!

luckily both the 235 excavator i was in and the ford F8000 single axle dump truck the driver was in both had AC so we did not get attacked/stung.

he took off with the truck and dumped, then left the park for 1/2 hour to get away from the yellow jackets.

i was stuck in the machine for 3 hours until they could get an exterminator there to smoke them out so i could get out of the machine.  for about 45 minutes the bees were so thick on the machines windows i could not see out of them. and even after that they were so thick around the machine and hole there was no way i was getting out.

three days later they got rid of all the bees and nest so we could finish digging the tank pit.

when you are up to your armpits in alligators,

it is hard to remember you only came in to drain the swamp..

That must’ve been creepy. Hopefully you didn’t run out of cigarettes ha ha and Tom. I found a huge mess like that behind some old planters. I was throwing out. I didn’t even know it was back there. Good thing it was winter time.

I've only been outside a few times today, and the heat just about takes your breath away as soon as you step out the door. Went down to the garden and picked green beans, tomatoes, and peppers this morning and was just soaked with sweat in a matter of minutes.
