I’ll take it off this week and measure when it’s relaxed, I’ll find a CH or RD and compare , I would say the hood on the Superliner is longer and uses a slightly different spring,, Probably just enough to have a different part number

After all the welding and sandingand polishing, I thought it looked okay

My mate Mal and my boy quickly pointed out how crap a job it actually was

Apparently even finer paper was needed

I spent days just welding up all the holes were people had screwed, riveted crap to it

It went on for ever the welding and the like

Anyway the Mack muster 2026 is coming up so I best get busy tidying things up again

Apparently they are featuring the R model

This one has a few scars on the lower corners but not too bad overall,, it was used hauling coal in West Virginia when we got it so it has some pretty good pitting, I’ve been sanding with 120, 220,320 ,400, 600, I’m slowly getting there. Yes 2026 will be here quickly!

I almost missed this Latest post. It sounds like a very tedious work and time consuming but can’t be as as dirty and filthy as cleaning up this baked on rearend   oil. Glad I’m almost done. Also not very happy about the weather changing around here. The sun is not shining. I really don’t even feel like going out of the house. Best of luck with that bud ….. bob

This might sound totally dumb, but you might wanna check out a reputable. Independent hardware store you might find something you can use. Good luck.

Thank you, I found some hood springs , Universal works just fine as long as the length is close, I’m closer on finishing this project, Hopefully get the bull bar on in a couple days, Then the biggest thing left is to polish the fuel tanks and install, I found some NOS tank strap insulation .

I'm pretty sure 385,425, steers are just that, steers.  When I used to do P.D.I.'s on front load garbage trucks, they would order them with 315's all the way around and pull the 8 Drives off to be be used as spare steer tires, and put caps on the drives.  My 2 cents...

I bet those trucks were green and white.  They're just mixed service steers  on Dean's, and my guess is being Michelins they're expensive. They say they do better on soft earth as opposed to a more ribbed highway design type. Believe it or not, a 315 steer (like may come off of a green and white truck) rated for 10000 pounds usually costs more then a like rated 385.

Yes they are Michelins 385s , And they are pricey, But the will last twice as long as a 11R and handles much better, they don’t follow uneven lines in the road. I’ve had a set of Continentals on my Western Star since July 2021 they have about 1/4 tread left,, I didn’t write down the mileage, but I can find it on fuel tickets just for comparison with the Michelins . A friend of mine has run both and he loves the aggressive style of the Michelins . I just like the way they make the Truck look .I don’t think North Carolina has any laws about weight per square inch , but there probably should be especially on a dump truck . Someone posted a picture of a Black COE F Model a few years ago with a set of Floats on it and it completely changed the look of a F Model! I’ll see if I can find it.
