Cabover FEVER

Recommended Posts

We have an mr688 we put together 2 years ago.  Best truck to work on, tilt the cab forward and EVERYTHING is right there.  But it rides rough, with a 20k steer axle. Wish I could put air bags on the rear cab mounts...

Bridge approaches are sketchy in our truck, never noticed how badly interstate roads drop before you enter/exit bridges, but our truck would throw you pretty hard. Fortunately most of our driving is local non highway.

Marmon made some cool looking cabovers but there isn't much Info out there about em. I wonder if they had an air ride cab like the Mack, that would add whole new level of cool!

Riding on the doghouse in our Mh was the coolest thing as a kid! You could feel everything the engine was doing and wow that E6 would feel like an earthquake when hauling 90,000!

I'd definitely drive it!!!

I spent 8 years in cabovers,,, owned 2…yes years ago they were everywhere… I really liked my cruise liner,,, that was my favorite work truck ,,,, all around really handy work tool …also E6 plenty of power… and yes it also took bumps pretty hard  , rough riding SOB ha ha I did on a U model.
but it had the 300   4 valve but didn’t pull worth the shit ….. that’s why I said, though the cruise liner had the best memories for working with….can sleep in them,,and plenty of storage… bob

You could check with Brayden Tucker at Tucker Equipment in Lisbon, Ohio.

He had a couple of cabovers that he was getting ready to sell, one was a Ford CL 9000. It was a single axle with no sleeper I think. He's a man I would have no problem buying a used vehicle from too, he's a good honest man.

Don't know if he still has this one, these are just street view screenshots.

The street view camera even caught Underdog there .

He had a 9670 IH at Winchester the year before last that he was going to sell, but it's probably sold by now.

And of course, after we bought this International that's sitting in the driveway I saw the truck we really needed on his Dying Breed Diesel page. Y'all might laugh, it was a single axle Volvo with a flat top sleeper. It would have been perfect for us to cruise to truck shows in, and it had plenty of room for the dogs to ride. But that's pretty much how it always works.

Friend had a 4070b Eagle.  It was his last truck before getting out of trucking 25 yrs ago.  We cleaned it up one Sat and took it out cruising on the strip.  It was a big thing around here for quite awhile.  5 lanes for 20 miles and just packed with cool hot rods.  By 2000 it really dwindled down to nothing.  We had a big resurgence a couple years ago but it was short lived.

Here is local truck for sale.  I know the truck, he is member of committee for our local show.

Thank you Sir I've passed that on to my mechanic and hopefully he'll show the boss.

That's a tall cab...reminds me of a cherry picker Mack! Interesting looking grille.

I've posted the first truck I drove for H.H. Moore Jr. before, it was a '74 Transtar too, red with white stripes, had a VT 903 in it with a 13 speed direct transmission. I don't have a single picture of that first one, it was white and had a gray stripe and a maroon stripe around the cab.

Not to go too far off topic but I found a cabover graveyard that's too cool not to share:

This poor Pete would have been one cool V12 truck in its day! If only they could tell stories.

Can't seem to track down the owner but I think the land was sold recently so they could all go to scrap.

Most if not all of them had been gutted. Sad to see the custom stickers and paint jobs some of these trucks had, the owners were really proud of their trucks then.

Found this sticker in the door on one of the Mh's:

Anyone remember what this could have been or what this recall involved?
